Good replacement for over the door shoe organizer?

Now that DCL discourages the use of over the door shoe organizers which were always handy to keep small things handy, has anyone found a good replacement that won't damage the cabin doors? I tried magnetic hooks to hold the shoe organizer up, but it was too heavy and slid down.

Thanks for any suggestions!

We're cruising in three weeks, and I got a velvet covered clothes hanger and zip tied the shoe organizer to the bottom of the hanger so it can hang up in the closet or on a robe hook instead.

Thanks for the suggestion! Having it outside of the closet would be more convenient for us, but we may make it work.

someone recently posted that they put wooden dowell thru the top and tied it with some ribbons and I think they said they also used ribbon to hang it on hook on the bathroom door. hope I explained it right, I am going to try it.

My husband and I cruised on the Magic three weeks ago. He hung the over the door shoe organizer on the outside of the shower curtain using the same hooks that the shower curtain hangs from. It worked great. I think I liked the location more than I would have on the back of the door.

I like this idea, thanks for sharing!

We did this also...worked very well for us! Good luck on whatever you choose... adding them onto the hangers sounds like a cute idea as well!

I have put some old lanyards through ours, and I am wrapping them around the closet pole to hang it in there. It's not very pretty, but it does the job.

There are hooks on the back of the bathroom door. As well as on the wall between the bathroom and the bed area in the room. I know for sure they are there on the Magic & Wonder. And I'm sure I read here that they have them on the Dream & Fantasy. You can just make a loop (like on a FE) to hang the organizer from those.

Also, on the Fantasy (probably Dream too, can't remember if they're in the Wonder or the Magic) there are two "hooks" on the wall inside the WC side of the split bath. We hung a plastic hanger from one of the hooks and tide the shoe organizer to the coat hanger using zip ties - worked great for us :thumbsup2

I was the one who posted about using the dowel rod. Here's a picture of it. Worked fine for me and the only thing touching the door was the ribbon and the back of the organizer.

Thanks for posting the photo as that was not exactly as I was envisioning. Thinking we'd still like to have on outside of bathroom door so its easy to drop things off when coming in door. Think this design will still work on outside of foot and ribbon over top won't damage door.

It is hard for me to find an inexpensive shoe organizer here, but for my last cruise I used collapsable boxes. They were actually very handy! At the end of my cruise I gave them to Guest services (I gave them my not too tacky pirate-y fish extender, too) They deserved it for coming up to weigh my luggage 3 :eek:times!

I found shoe organizers at the dollar store with 4 pockets. I bought two - one for the bathroom door and one for the hook inside the cabin. They came in nautical colors - red and navy with rope hangers. Dollar general I believe.

I found something similar at the Dollar store back in 2011. They are similar to a shoe organizer, but with fewer pockets. I bought 2 and I think they held the equivalent of 1 large shoe organizer.
Another alternative to using the over the door hanger or the much needed bathroom hooks( we need those for wet towels), is a large diameter suction cup hook, specifically a power lock suction hook. ( these work by pulling up then down on the hook, then to release you pull the hook back up.)
We used these on the Wonder and just recently at the Boardwalk Villas. They are very strong and will suction to smooth surfaces, including mirrors, windows, doors, wood paneling and painted walls too if they aren't too textured.
We have successfully used them to hold these organizers and heavy bags of laundry.
I found mine at a discount store but I recently saw them on amazon too.

I just try to seriously minimize my shoes I bring. Athletic, beach flipflop, fancy flipflop, flats. I don't need a door organizer or I may be tempted to bring more?

Speaking of which, I found adorable comfortable non slippy silver dressy shoes at Kmart of all places on sale yesterday for my next cruise! (That isn't booked yet haha. Told Twinkie, I bought shoes for our next cruise!) Gotta think ahead. Its hard to find cute fancy sleek n sultry that you actually can wear around with all the different kinds of flooring and walking on a ship! Woohoo. I be ready!

The shoe organziers are handy for much more than shoes. We use them for our cabins keys, cameras, lanyards, highlighters, etc instead of everything getting dropped on a flat surface ending up hard to find. The organizers make a great drop spot when you walk in the door.

We don't use ours for shoes either. We use it in the bathroom to keep the counters/shelves clear of clutter.

I use the LLBean hanging toiletry organizer. They come in various sizes. A large or x-large holds everything for the bathroom plus has room for extras like tape or scissors.
