July 2013 with a 1 year old...Yes we ARE that crazy! We're back & had a great time

Alright, I had totally planned on updating and discussing resorts and meal plans and all that jazz, but life got in the way. Thankfully, I got a shot in the butt and a z-pack, so the awful laryngitis/sinus infection that hit me last week is GONE!

We did FINALLY book our trip. June 29 through July 5, as planned. We took advantage of the summer deal they've got going on. So where did we choose???

If the choices are A & B...we picked C! :rotfl: We are not staying at AoA or Pop. My dad noticed that with the room discount (which is 20% for the moderates as opposed to 15% on the values) it wasn't a very big difference to stay at a lower priced moderate resort. So.....we are staying at POR!! :hyper: None of us have ever stayed there. The only moderate we've stayed at was Coronado Springs, and we really weren't all that thrilled with it, to be honest. I had always thought it would be silly to stay at POR, being that I grew up in the New Orleans area and live only 45 minutes away--so nothing new for us. But after stopping in at the resort on our 2009 trip (via the boat from DTD), I started considering it as an option. My dad first suggested Coronado or Caribbean resort, but when I had him look up POR he reacted very positively and was all for it. So we're booked in 2 rooms at POR!

We decided that the quick service plan is the way to go. We will definitely still have one or 2 sit down meals and pay out of pocket. Breakfast at Chef Mickey's is an absolute MUST (if we can get in there, then I'll settle for one of the other character breakfasts where Mickey is present). Probably one sit-down dinner as well.
In the middle of summer it's just too crowded to be wasting precious time sitting down to a full meal every day. And Harper will likely get restless at a venue such as Le Cellier (which is my FAVORITE place...but I think we'll have to skip it this once). So, I'm content with this decision.

Wow, I'm really behind! By now I'd normally have all our days mapped out, and have ADR's booked. But I only need to book 2 or 3, so hopefully it won't be an issue. I'm sure we'll go to MK on the day we have CM breakfast, and I plan to visit MK twice so that leaves us with 2 days to choose from. I guess it's a bit less stressful not having to make SO many ADR's and work around the park crowd schedule AND meals at the same time.

Anyone want to help with the crowd schedule?? Boy, am I rusty!!!

YAY, you are booked :cool1:

You are going love POR. So gorgeous!!!!

I think going with quick service plan is the way go

If you are going do another meal with Mickey, you should try Garden Grill. Have you eaten there before? Has Mickey, Pluto and Chip and Dale

Hey, what a great report! Funny, we are having very similar trips! We are taking my dad and sister for our little one's first trip too! October though. You will love POR! It's so beautiful there and there are bunnies everywhere, it's like being in a Disney movie! We are doing Chef Mickey too, for his birthday. I've never tried their breakfast before so that's exciting! We love southwest too - I'm nervous about the fact that the tickets say airtran - have you ever flown with them? Fingers crossed for a ding for you! Your little girl is beautiful and I can tell from the pictures that she already has your husband wrapped around her finger (another similarity!) :goodvibes Congratulations! Looking forward to reading more!

Yay you are booked!! :cool1: I wish we could go the same week! Boo. :( But the boys are going to boy scout camp the week you are going.

Congratulations on becoming parents!! It's the most wonderful thing in the world! :lovestruc

I've taken my (now) 2 year old to Disney three times, getting ready to go for the 4th next month :)

We took him to MNSSHP at 1. It was very crowded and we still had a wonderful time!! We try to avoid the summer, but just because we are flexible with dates. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time even with the crowds and heat!

My son's first trip was when he was 4 months old. He absolutely LOVED the characters and would try to pull their masks off. He has grown and had more fun each time we've taken him. He will be 2 years and 3 months old next month for his next trip. He is already talking about riding Nemo and Buzz Lightyear (two of his favorite rides).

You will LOVE POR! I worked there for a year when I was working at Disney - it is beautiful, the rooms are very nice, the pools are spectacular and the food court is amazing and has so many choices! I have never been a huge fan of the merchandise shop there, but fortunately there are tons of those all over property and it has the essentials.

I am not sure how I am going to do our dining plans yet. We are just going with the three of us - I am thinking we will do one TS for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the rest QS or eating in the room (we are staying in a one-bedroom DVC villa).

Have you booked flights? I can't believe your trip is so close!!

aww that is such a bummer! I hate that we have such time constraints right now.

yay I'm glad to hear it! Very cool that you worked there!

Those dining plans sound just right to me! It's hard to do a lot of long meals with an infant.

Finally...an update!

Things have been very hectic in my household. Last month, I got a sinus infection & laryngitis, then Harper got sick, then my mom got bronchitis which meant I had to work from home a couple of times. Then sadly my Mawmaw passed away a couple weeks ago. She is no longer in pain though, so we will remember the happy times we shared with her.

Harper and I are both sick yet again, and I'm on a longer antibiotic this time. Hopefully this is IT for me this year, so I can have a fun-filled Disney vacation with no sickies. Fingers crossed!

A couple things have changed. First, we have decided that driving is the way to go. I watched flight prices from the moment we decided on this trip, and looked for codes & deals but they never were in the range we were looking for. Unfortunately this means we had to shorten our trip by a day since we will need that time for driving back home (my DH has to work Saturday the 6th). So now we are arriving on the 29th, leaving on the 4th. Yes, driving home on the 4th. I still am hoping to convince my group that we should stay at Disney for half a day, then start heading back. My dad thinks we should leave in the morning and then stop & stay overnight at a beach near Destin or Pensacola. Regardless we'll be breaking up the trip both there and back.

Thankfully I have a very nice boss and was able to add another day off on Friday, June 28th.

The plan is this: My dad will be reserving a rental van so we can all travel together in one car, and not put miles on either of our vehicles. So he'll pick that up as soon as the rental place opens. He'll load up the van with their stuff, then come to my house and load ours up. A few last minute checks and we'll be on our way! If everything goes well, we can make it all the way to Orlando. If not, then we'll get as close as we can, and find a hotel to crash for the night. The closer we are, the earlier we can get to POR and check in, and have a nice full day at either MK or Epcot!! (I need to look at crowd calendars, as I'm a little rusty, but I think MK is the busiest park on Saturday so we'll probably do Epcot). If we had flown, we probably wouldn't be arriving til the afternoon, so this isn't so bad! Hopefully it all goes as planned!

Wednesday was Disney pay-off day! I'm kicking my planning into full gear so be prepared for lots of planning questions and information spilling out in the coming weeks!

PS. I booked us a Chef's Mickey's breakfast....at 7:15 in the morning on the 3rd. Uh yeah...wish me luck getting the family in on that one ;)

Sorry you're having to drive now but glad your boss was cooperative about adding an extra day off. :thumbsup2 So tell me, how is it fitting luggage for 5 people into a mini van? Brooke and I considered renting a van for all of us but we assumed we wouldn't have room for everything if we did that with having two toddlers along. Hope you are on the mend for good soon and you all can have fun on your trip. I think stopping for the night at the beach sounds nice. Good luck getting everyone to that early breakfast!

I think we're going to rent one with a luggage rack to ensure that we have enough room. Weather permitting, we can put some items on the rack and have plenty of space in the rear storage. :thumbsup2

Oh I didn't know you could rent a luggage rack. Hmmm I may have to look more into renting a van then. :)

YAY, an update

You should update your title so "they" will come :rotfl:

Glad your boss was good with you taking another day off

Renting a van sounds like good idea. Great idea on luggage rack

7:15 AM ADR :scared1:

Unfortunately that was the ONLY time left for CM's breakfast over our entire trip. I will keep checking as I would love to do breakfast on the morning of our departure. It would be a great send-off! But that's also the 4th so fat chance of getting a ressie. I'm just glad I got one at all, at this point.

You could always plan to try and get a table on a whim that morning. We've never had issues getting a table anywhere without an ADR except Le Cellier.

But if we waited and couldn't get in then we wouldn't have another chance. Plus it's a holiday.
