My DH and I are looking into taking our first cruise ever. We want to do the June 17th Alaskan cruise and have noticed that the two cruises at the beginning of June started dropping prices in certain categories when the cruise got to be 4 weeks out. We can't go until the 17th otherwise we would have taken advantage of these deals. Today they are offering a floating Cat 9B reservation at the Cat 9C price which wasn't offered yesterday. We have a room on hold but are questioning whether we should book it now or wait till Monday and see if pricing goes down further. :confused3

Any experience or advice on this?

Typically prices do not go down further. If you really want to go on that date and the price is a good price you are happy with I would book it. If you wait the price may go up or there may not be room for you.

Are the rates you are talking about the IGT, OGT and VGT rates or just regular rates they went down in price a bit?

MJ

It's the OGT rate so I know we won't pick a room when we book.

OGT means you are guaranteed an Ocean View room. That's it. You cannot pick category/deck/room.

You can in fact get upgraded to a verandah, but again, will have no say in which one you get.

IGT/OGT/VGT rates require payment in full at time of booking. Note that you CAN use the Disney Visa and get the $50 OBC.

If they are offering *GT rates, those *are* the last minute, discounted rates -- The price will not get lower than that. Sometimes those rates are only available for a short time, so I'd go ahead and book if you know for sure you want to go!

That's what's got me questioning things. On the previous two cruises I've seen the *GT rate go from $1200 to $900 the closer it gets to cruise date. Has anyone else seen this happen?

I first booked my cruise for two at the price of 728 pp then I seen it go down to 599 pp I called dcl and they where more then happy to give me the price for 599

While *GT rates may (or may not) go lower, I don't believe you can make ANY change including a fare decrease. They are PIF with a lot of restrictions.

OP, depends how much risk you are willing to take and how badly you want to take that specific cruise. You can wait to see if the *GT goes lower, but it might not and it might disappear altogether while waiting to see if it drops. I don't believe you can make any change to a *GT reservation if a better discount is offered - so you're hedging a bet if you wait. All depends how badly you want to go and at what price point you'll find acceptable.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We decided not to risk losing the discount and went ahead and booked a cruise. We sail on the 17th and are very excited.

Not personal experience, but I have seen more than one place where it was mentioned that if rates drop/more discounts are offered Disney might honor the lower rate. At the very least, it couldn't hurt to call and check if you see the rate go lower!:thumbsup2
