June 27, 2013 - Magic in the Med (Venice)

Looks like there will be one other ship in port with us. The other ship is an MSC with about 3300 people. Port Authority in Dubrovnik says that we will be in Berth 11 at Port Gruz.. That sounds like docking to me, but I didn't get a chance to research where that was. (Power was out about 2.5 hr last night and the battery back up for the internet only lasted an hour!)

They did have some good information on the port website.

Transportation options from the port into old town:

30 min walk

or Bus 1, 1A, 1B, 3 from harbor into city. Cost 10 HRK (kuna) pp. Buy tickets on the bus or at a newsstand

or Taxi. Harbor to city 70 HKN (kuna)

Sorry this is about Dubrovnik! I evidently misread the port!

Also about Dubrovnik... supposedly there is a wifi zone at the port....

Keep trying to figure out what to do in Dubrovnik. Wondering if the Frommers Walking Tour of Dubronik is going to be enough to keep us busy. DH likes to walk with purpose. I haven't done much on Dubronik at all.....

We have hired a guide for the day in Dubrovnik, but other than that, I haven't done a lot of reading. My friend says it's a great city to just hang out in and relax, especially after full days in Venice.

I saw on one of the cruise timetable sites that it looks like just the Magic will be in La Spezia.

I hope you all had a productive but relaxing weekend. I didn't do much cruise-related stuff for a change, but did cross off a lot of "stuff we have to do before the cruise" things - like band banquets, English projects, work stuff.

We have plane tickets!!!! Thank goodness!! I was seriously beginning to think I was swimming to Barcelona!

Has anyone looked at the train schedule from Civitavecchia to Rome for Sunday, 30 Jun? I looked yesterday and the earliest train I could find was 11:07. Just wondering if anyone was able to find an earlier train.

we did the train in 2011 and it was a cinch -- but, and I'm not sure if this is accurate as i didn't research it myself, but I was told that the day we're in Rome is the day that the Vatican is FREE ADMISSION and therefore is a complete zoo, bombarded with tourists... just passing that on in case that impacts any travel plans...

Thanks for the info. When I looked at the timetable a few months ago I saw the earlier trains but when I looked the other day I only saw the 11:00. But the website you gave me shows all of the earlier trains which eased my mind. I was afraid that with the Pope being in-residence that day that trains would run on a different schedule. thanks again.:)

I was concerned about the Vatican on a Sunday, wish we weren't in Rome on a Sunday because of the crowds, but with that said, our train does get there by 9 and we should be able to beat the crowds, wouldn't get near that place after 10 or 11. Would be nice to see the Pope even if it was from afar, just to say you did.
