Just Back : Attack of the Flies!!!

Sorry for those that had to deal with the flies. We are going later this summer. Hope it is just some sort of natural 100 year thing or something like that and not a recurring problem. I assume that Disney would have solved the issue already if it was possible.

I hope is subsides soon for those there and heading there soon.

Yea it's really weird how its confined to some of the parks and resorts. Was anyone in AK and had this problem. I could only imagine how bad that park could be.

I was at AK and Epcot yesterday and they were horrible, all over the parks.
I was at DD on Saturday and they were terrible.
I do not remember ever seeing them like this before. I sincerely hope Disney does something about this soon.

I live in Orlando and I was truly amazed at the amount of flies. I don't have them at my home (well maybe one or two a year), so, I was kind of surprised at them yesterday and Sat.

WRONG!

Seriously, what person can not tell the difference between a love bug and a fly? They look and behave completely differently. What is up with people suggesting these are love bugs or cicadas? How stupid do you think people are?

FLIES are the problem at WDW right now. Love bugs are never a "problem," they are just there.

I agree and they are a BIG problem.

I think its time to have a talk with frogs, lizards and snakes and tell them they are not holding up their end of the Circle of Life bargain!!!

We were there last week and couldn't understand the flies were every where. Not love bugs --there were some there but not that annoying just plain flies. I have never been bothered by them outside in the parks before but there they were and in every restaurant we ate in.

I can tell the difference ***. I was merely saying I was just at disney and didn't have the fly problem, but saw tons of lovebugs just like I do where I live just miles away from WDW.

Yup, had fun with the flies during our trip (5/9 - 5/13). Even Peter Noone made a comment about them during his Herman and the Hermits show on Saturday!

Not really sure what can be done about them. Fly infestations are typically a result of rainfall extremes and the "right" temperature to lead to large hatches. They do love water, so Disney is a perfect breeding ground for them...

Hopefully they will move along.

I sure hope they have this under control before we get there June 9th. At least we will be eating a lot of our meals in our villa. I guess I will have to pack a fly swatter for any of the little devils that fly in from our balcony doors. Might have to keep this little bit of info from DW. She would be less than thrilled. If it is as bad as everyone is saying, then Disney needs to keep doors to the eating places closed.

Hope it dies down before we get there on the 22nd. Hate to spend all this money and have swarms of flies to deal with :sad2:

From my experience, it really wasn't a big deal - they were there, and it was somewhat annoying, but certainly nothing that ruined our fun. It was more odd than anything else.

It must be a southern thing i'm from NY and I never heard of a love bug. lol is it a ladybug? I must google this.
Do you think this fly thing is a result of global warming issues??

I'm really hoping this is gone by next Friday. I definitely don't want to be swatting away flies for 24 hours. The most I've had to deal with at home (3.5 hours away in Miami) is gnats. Disgusting little bugs that only come out with the rain but this sounds much worse.

The flies are just bad this year. I live a couple of miles behind the MK and the flies at my home have been terrible. There are bunches of them on the screen to my lanai. They seem to like to land on cars which makes it hard to get in without letting them in also.

I walked through my backyard and was swarmed. Hopefully, this will be a short lived phenomena.

eew lovebugs are ugly

They are not that bad in person. They remind me of lightening bugs, only dumber. The only real bad thing about them is having to wash the front of your car everyday during love bug season.

They just kind of float around and are much more interested in each other than anything else.

The flies certainly didn't ruin my good time, but sure did ruin a couple of meals. The positive thing about them is that the big numbers of them are only in isolated pockets so they are easy to get away from. There is an increase in solo flies, but at least the whole place isn't swarming.

True but in January there are ride closures and all the tour groups....I'd rather deal with the bugs

BTG is the first thing that came to mind. I do love going in January, but I have to say I would rather deal with the flies also.
