If you could speak to Bob Iger about DVC at the Poly.....

My thoughts about plans for DVC at the Poly

  • Please dont!! This will ruin the relaxing atmosphere.

  • One building perhaps, current plans are too much.

  • I love all the plans as they are!!!

  • Not sure how I feel

What would you say if you had the ear of Bob Iger about the plans for DVC at the Poly?

What do you plan to do about the already overcrowded monorail?
You've added a billion people riding the monorail w/ BLT, are adding even more people to the ridership pool when GFV opens up and now you plan on adding even people w/ PV units.
If, as I suspect, you plan to just pack even more people into the monorails (or make them wait longer) could you @ least finish the walkway to/from MK/Poly, please?
Likewise, will you be upgrading the pool situation (eg adding one) and a bigger CS area to accomodate these new PV guests, or will you take the approach you took w/ the GF and just jam more people into the existing Poly pools and facilities? If the later, could you @ least start kicking out the casual visitors who just stop by for a dip because the Poly pool is so conveniently close to the MK?

I had not even thought about some of the points that you mentioned!

I would say to anyone in any position of authority, "Don't you find it embarrassing that the DVC website is constantly down?

the overcrowded monorail seems to be because several people get on at TTC.

most of the BLT will walk to the MK - it is faster and you get there before the monorail.

they can't do a walkway from Polyn to MK - on one side is the TTC - on the other side - is the water way for EWP - unless you want to do away with that - lots of luck it has been around since the Polyn/CR first opened.

you seem to forget how many rooms were at CR before BLT - if anything there are less rooms. Many DVCers don't come anywhere near the occupancy of the rooms - now some do - but most really don't.

now with the GFV opening it might make the crowds worst. but as I say before it was mostly the TTC crowd that was the problem. It is a monorail so only 4 monorails - one at each station.

Do you really think that Disney - which is a corporation is going to stop building DVC - which is a BIG money earners. as long as DVC continues to earn money for Disney - Disney will kept building.

So either buy DVC so you can see the benefits - or stay at YC - which (I think) will continue w/o a DVC.

those gv at Polyn could be wonderfully - too bad they are probably out of my point costs.

oh the plans have a pool - a really, really big one. bigger than any at the MK resorts to date.

Yep, though I agree with PP that BLT hasn't placed much burden on the monorail, it is what is to come with GFV and PV that has true nightmare potential. We shall see, I guess. Also, the plans posted for Poly DVC do show another (necessary) pool with a lazy river where the Neverland Club sits now.

It's because DVC is making so much money that I think they could afford to deal w/ some infrastructure issues, not that I think they will, and I agree, a lot of the MK to TTC traffic jams up the resort monorail. I do think another solution could be found for the EWP storage, tho', or a drawbridge like they have @ Epcot for illuminations.
My comments weren't meant as an attack on anyone staying @/owning DVC, just, along the lines of - if I had the ear of someone important at WDW, this is what I'd argue for and why, to enhance everyone's experience.
Didn't think about it, but I guess YC will be the only deluxe left w/out a DVC - of course it's sister resort BC has a DVC, so they almost already have one.
Didn't know about the new pool - sounds great.

This.
It seems like a mess to add even more people onto the seriously in need of help monorail as it is. And the Poly pool? It's too small for the resort as it is. I really hope they'll do something about both of those issues for the sake of everyone staying there.

ETA.. and just read about the bigger pool. One issue addressed! :).

I would like to try the Poly so I want them to make it a DVC resort but they need to upgrade the entire resort and get rid of that nasty smell before I'll ever want to stay there.:crazy2:

I can't understand why they don't just build independent DVC resorts. Why cramp things up at POLY and GF (too late for that one) ? As others stated, the monorail is already cramped and jammed up not to mention other issues.
My question to Bob would be "Why not build a beautiful DVC Island Resort elsewhere on the massive amount of space available elsewhere ? Leave Poly as is!" ;) Oh and please build another pool somewhere closer to Tahiti area. :thumbsup2

BTW...
We just got back from POLY. Stayed in Tahiti. Never noticed any bad smells anywhere around the resort. Thank goodness b/c I have a sensitive schnoz and notice every smell there is. And they are updating the inside of the rooms so that's a plus. Otherwise I think the outsides are dated as well but kind of add to the charm of this resort as a WDW first. A little updating wouldn't hurt anything just not to take its original feel away. But plz no DVC at this resort.

Actually, I feel Poly is in a better position to handle the influx of extra guests than GF is.

As already mentioned, the max occupancy of the old CR north wing was equal or more than the max occupancy of BLT, plus the BLT guests can walk to MK. So there was less of a burden.

GF has the least options as far as travel to MK and Epcot goes, because they can't walk to MK, and the long walk to the TTC past the wedding pavilion and Poly would be a huge inconvenience. So they are pretty much tied to the resort monorail or the small resort boat for their transportation.

Poly guests have the option of resort monorail, ferry boat or express monorail to TTC and walkway to Poly, or the small resort boat service that goes to GF and Poly. I've done the walk from TTC to Poly many times, and it's not bad at all (unless you're there during the worst of the summer heat).

Personally, knowing they probably won't be making any changes to the monorail, I think they need to get higher capacity boats similar to the larger boats that service WL and FW. Having more boat capacity would help ease the monorail situation, especially for those at GF who have more limited options. Boats would be more flexible, as they could use as few, or as many, as needed to get the job done - it's much harder to add monorails when you have to maintain space between them, and you can't add capacity by adding cars to them as they would then be too long for the station platforms, creating a whole new set of issues.

As far as Poly DVC goes, I would probably ask why the drawings I've seen show new DVC buildings at opposite ends of the current resort. I don't think it's a good idea to have it split. Put it at one end or the other so the member amenities aren't all spread out. Imagine if they have some kind of member lounge like they do at BLT, but it's in the building at the opposite end of the resort from the building you are staying in. Not fun in my book.

think one is the gym - since the Poly does not have one now - but agree it is in a strange place. most of the gyms that DVC does is close to the pool - and the other side is closer to the non-dvc pool.

so don;t know.

just hope that they don't try to make this new pool only for Polyn guests only. that is causing enough problems at BLT - where it is a size problem.

looks like the Polyn pool will be big enough for the entire resort.

I have never understood what people mean when they say the Polynesian needs to be redone, truly rehabbed. The rooms have been recently rehabbed, to the best of my knowledge. And the exterior?? Leave it alone. The Polynesian was designed to be representative of buildings in Polynesia. I'm not sure what people want it to look like!!! Every resort has a specific theme. You don't see people saying the CR needs to be rehabbed since it looks dated!!! Geez.

I own DVC...at BWV and at BLT. I will never stay at the VGF...I don't care for the GF to begin with and feel no need to ever stay at a villa there. And while I like the Polynesian well enough, I don't see the need for DVC there. But, no one asked me for my opinion!!! Just seems to be too much building going on along the monorail route. Getting a wee bit crowded for my tastes.

I agree, I think that if they MUST add more DVC one building by the luau cove is enough. I am not anti DVC at all, I am thinking of buying in, I just think that it is getting way to congested in this area. Would love to have a completley new resort in a new expansive location and leave the poly as is.

There is no "nasty smell" at the Poly. Except for the pool hoppers, of course. They stink pretty bad! :thumbsup2
