I'm booked with free dining so I'm already paying rack rate technically. I'll keep on checking. Thanks!

I was booked in a preferred room. When I applied the free dining pin, they moved me out and into a royal room.

So don't feel bad that you didn't book it originally. =/

I don't have free dining going too early in august. My question is about preferred rooms for a family of 5. We booked a preferred room at POR. You are saying they are in the Alligator Bayou section? Also are these the ones with the pull-down beds? And one more ?, if we arrive around 9 or 10PM will we get bumped from the preferred room? I will do online check-in.
Thanks!

All four of the preferred buildings are in AB.

I would do online check-in and put in your arrival time and don't ask for any requests.

If we have 3 adults, a 7 year old and an infant are we considered a family of 4 or 5? We are traveling with another family of 5 who would be in AB. We requested connecting rooms so I hope we can at least be in the same building :(

You are considered a family of 4, until the infant turns 3. Then you are a family of 5.

So does that mean we can possibly be bumped?

Thanks!

Anything can happen; if you read the fine print on your reservation, all Disney guarantees you a room on property - somewhere.

You are increasing your odds if you indicate that you are arriving late (you must do that in order to do online check-in) and not making any requests, you greatly increase your odds of staying in your booking category.

We weren't - it was building 38. When you cross the bridge from the main buildings, we were in the first building if you turn right, and I believe the preferred were to the left.

How was the walk from building 38? We are leaving in 9 days and I'm going to be faxing our requests over in a few days. We booked a garden view room and looking at the map building 38 looked to be a great building close to the main pool. What bus stop did you use and did you have any trouble with early morning pick ups? I read quickly thru your trip report and saw you had lots of early mornings. ;)

NINE DAYS, NINE DAYS!!!!! SINGLE DIGIT DANCE!:banana:

Thanks! I will take your advice and cross my fingers.

Thanks I was able to do online check in already, im excited! I am assuming it makes the process faster, had to guess on check in as we will be driving in

I mean the kind of racks you can roll to your room for luggage so we dont have to carry it all

Yes, they have them at guest services.

If it is available, be advised you will most likely be paying full rack rate for the room.

Disney got pretty savvy regarding "requests" a few years ago at the moderates and turned them into booking categories. Preferred rooms book up pretty fast. I would suggest checking 44 days out from check-in, when people don't pay off their packages and cancel or reschedule. One may become available.

Corner room is a request that you can make.

What is special about the corner rooms? We have a standard room requested in a Royal Riom.

They have two windows, so they "appear" larger. I have been in a corner room a couple of times and they are a lot brighter.

Also you are booked in a standard room in RRs; that is a booking category, so you can make a request to be in a corner room.

What is the kiddie pool situation at POR? I've tries to find pictures and video but haven't had any luck.

It is located at Ol' Man Island.....if you go to portorleans.org, and go to the Riverside label at the top of the page. Scroll over it and a list comes up; click on Ol' Man Island and you will see a 360 degree panorama shot.

Scroll around about halfway and you will see the kiddie pool; there a few kids in it, so it will be a good giveaway.

We have a room only reservation our first night and then a 9 night package (free dining) the rest of our trip. We really hope they will keep us in the same room. We booked the same room type (standard) for both reservations. In order to help increase our odds of staying in the same room should we skip online check in? Should we do one or the other or both?

I do plan on sending a room request fax telling them we would like to be anywher in the AB section and to notify them of our two reservations.

You can link your reservations and request staying in the same room.

Happens to me the last several years when I arrive; be open to changing though. One year, the CM said if I didn't mind moving the next day, she had an awesome room for me; corner room, king bed, riverview in the mansions. I just didn't unpack the first night and just moved over in the morning.

Online check-in doesn't really have anything to do with resort availability, it is really just a pre-registration.

Frequent lurker, infrequent poster here! We're heading to POR for our 6th stay next month and I was curious about the reliability of the wireless connection. I unfortunately will need to get some work done while we're there and the connection on our last stay was a little too spotty at times. I'm wondering if investing in an internet to go device would be a better idea.

How was the walk from building 38?

The closest stop was technically the North stop. We used it and the South (outside the main building) about 1/2 and 1/2. Our early mornings we used the North and didn't have any problems catching a bus and getting a seat. South was usually a little more crowded to get on the bus, but those mornings we also left a little later (8ish after eating at the food court instead of 7ish) In the evening to MK it was very crowded.
I would say about a 5 minute walk or less to either stop. We walk fairly quickly. (well, DH does anyway and the rest of us try to keep up). We tended to get off at the south coming back, because usually one of the kids would want to stop at the gift shop or we would grab a snack. We did get off at the West depot once figuring it was better to get off the crowded bus and walk, and wandered around in the dark for longer than we needed to:rolleyes1
Walk to the pool was short.
