Racer X Goes Goofy (7/15 Dinoland)

During a January 2011 family trip to “the World”, we upgraded to Annual Passes.
And those passes started burning a hole in my pocket.
I planned a Guys Weekend with my eldest son.
Mom planned a Gals Weekend with our princess.
Which left the little guy.

Then Unca J announced his intentions for the 2012 Walt Disney World Marathon.
And apparently he needed a chEARing section.
Hence the perfect reason for our third Disney weekend!
(And it fell just before our Annual Passes expired).

So X (5 years old at the time), myself, and J took off for a racing adventure!

J is an avid runner and was attempting his first Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend to see what all the fuss is about.
In fact, Unca decided to even go Goofy and entered both the Half and Full Marathons.
I just don’t get it.

I am an anal planner and was just excited for another excuse to go to Disney.
I would even get to try a new locale – Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

And X was excited for his Disney weekend after watching his older brother and sister get their fun.
And to get in on the act, we signed him up for the Kids 200M so he was even racing for a medal of his own!

So stay tuned and keep up because our little Racer X is going to go Goofy with his Unca J!

The whole gang piled into the minivan and headed off to the airport to drop us off.
It was January 4, 2012 and the start of the last weekend trip for the Capell Kids.
This time the family dropped off myself, X, and Unca J.
We grabbed some breakfast sandwiches in the airport and then boarded our 9:05AM flight.
It was a rough flight as the pressure really got to my ears as I had been congested all week.
But we made it through with X glued to the JetBlue TV watching the Speed channel.
After he got bored, J spoiled him with the Harry Belafonte Muppet Show on his laptop.
Eventually, X passed out.
Dads make good pillows.

The flight landed about 15 minutes early so we hit the restrooms and headed off to Magical Express.

The wait was not too long and after a quick stop at Caribbean Beach Resort we arrived at our home away from home – Pop Century!

We checked in and picked up our Garden Grocer order for the weekend.
We had a Preferred Pool room in the 60’s thanks to a great deal our travel agent found us.
Kudos Dawn!
The only problem was that the stroller can’t go out the back of the Classic Hall since there are only stairs.
You have to roll it out to the bus drop-off and around the building.
A bit of a pain but we could deal.

Then it was off to the room complete with some pics of our view!

X was busting so we couldn’t wait long before heading to the buses.
How’s this for raring to go?

Our first park of the weekend would be Animal Kingdom.

It was interesting to see the decorations here as the huge Christmas tree was still up in the entrance plaza.
And in Animal Kingdom, it’s got some great decorations!

Of course, we found our friendly neighborhood Photopass photographers.
And they even had a surprise for us.
Seasons Greetings from Stitch!

Then it was time to Make Some Memories.
Come join us for an adventure into Animal Kingdom!

Thanks for the shout-out :)

Isn't Pop the best? It's our favorite non-deluxe too!

How fun that the holiday decorations were still up :)

The PP special pics are so cute. It looks like X was in the box too :goodvibes

HA!
It does look like he's in the box.
I hadn't noticed that!
:rotfl:

Inside the park, we stared in awe at the magnificent tree.

And, since we were a bit early, we stopped off at Disney Outfitters.
They had a special AP giveaway – a free Disney calendar complete with sketches for each month.
Very, very cool!

We also decided to detour to Dinoland and grabbed fastpasses for Dinosaur for later.
The window opened at 2:30 which was perfect since we could get another FP very soon (it was 1:55).

Then we trekked to Africa for our 2:05 ADR at Tusker House – now character lunch!
We’ve been to Donald’s Safari Breakfast but never lunch so we were excited!
I was really looking forward to trying some authentic African fare.
But first, some photos with the Duck himself!

After meeting The Duck, we were led to our table.
We checked the safari times to make our plans for the rest of the day.

Then we headed to the buffet.
The food was very good – split pea samosas, curry chicken, sliced roast beef, roasted potatoes, marikesh couscous, caesar salad, and JAMBO JUICE!

X stuck to macaroni and cheese with mini corn dogs.

We also had lots of fun with the characters but every time one came over, X put another corn dog in his mouth.
You can see in the pics…

Great pics if X would’ve just taken those corn dogs out of his mouth!
At least we know he was enjoying the food…

X finally finished and then it was parade time!
Grab a noisemaker everyone and come along!

And those parades sure work up an appetite.
Good thing it was time for dessert!

Before we headed out though, J then decided to go on a grand tour of the restaurant capturing every single detail.
But I’ll let him tell you about that…

Sorry it's been a long lull until my update. I was co-chairing a large event this past weekend, and thinking about anything else was not happening.

And, well, it wasn't THAT grand a tour. Looking back at my pics, you put a few of them up already. And, as y'all may recognize from the background of
some of the photos Mike already put up, I didn't move too far away from the table for these. (In fact, I think I stood at my seat and merely turned around a full 360.)

So, as Mike said, I took several detail photos. Tusker House is a neat place to grab a meal and, so long as there isn't a parade going by, it's usually easy
enough to grab some photos.

At the “head” of the dining room, right above the safari schedule previously seen:

Some clothing and implements on display:

Assorted miscellany:

And, of course, some pictures of pictures:

Sorry for the long hiatus.
Work got rough and then we blasted off to Star Wars Weekends.
And then I worked a bit on a side project. :goodvibes
Check out the resulting Capell Music Video!

Great video. :happytv: Love the line with DS singing that he has to go, and running into the restroom. :rotfl2:

SO jealous that I wasn't down there with you guys. Looked like a great time. (I know, I had my chance.)

I love it! You guys rock :thumbsup2

Thanks, Dawn! We had SO MUCH FUN making the video on our trip!

The kids didn't seem to be too enthusiastic about the idea at first but then they really got into it!
They are already trying to pick out a song for our next video. :woohoo:

Thanks for sharing your trip report! Sounds like you had a great trip! I'm looking forward to trying Tusker House (for supper though) for the first time in November. it was hard for us to break away from our AK supper favorite: Yak and yeti! but we wanted to try something new!

I hope you're having a great day! Jennifer
