Flying Fish and I don't eat fish; Biergarten and don't like being seated with others

I'm not as difficult as I sound! Okay, maybe I am, just a little. Be glad you aren't the one who has to put up with me.

For the darling one who does tolerate my quirks, however, I am agreeing to both Flying Fish Cafe and Biergarten. He is especially set on Flying Fish and I'm not looking forward to that one at all. I looked at the menu and wondered if the steaks are any good? It must sound silly to order steak there but I've never met a piece of fish I liked.

As far as Biergarten goes, I think the atmosphere sounds fun, and I'm sure I can find something on the buffet to eat. But being seated with other people concerns me a little. I will deal with it, sure, but it definitely isn't my preference as I'm pretty shy. Are you very close to your tablemates? Are you focused on the show and eating enough that there isn't much in the way of awkward socialization?

The steak at Flying Fish is very good according to the one non-fish eater in our family.

Biergarten is going to be difficult as you will be shoulder to shoulder with your table mates - 8 to a table with 4 on each side and you are seated in the order you arrive so you may be in the middle of a table with strangers on either side. We go here frequently and always chat it up with the others at our table.

I'm afraid I can't comment on Flying Fish as I haven't eaten there. FWIW, I've heard lots of great reviews of the place, so I'd be willing to bet even the non-seafood items are pretty good.

I have been to Biergarten, and I had the same concerns as you. I did not like the idea of sharing a table with strangers. There is no separation between groups. Our party of 6 was sat at a table for 8, and we did end up sharing the table with another couple. They were nice enough but pretty quiet. What little talking they did was mainly to each other. Between just eating and the show, there is plenty to keep everyone distracted.

Heard great things but will try it somewhere besides disney...but that just me! Disney already cost enough without dropping a few hundos for dinner. Call me cheap.

DH is not a fish eater and wont tolerate restaurants that smell fishy.

As others have said, you are very close to the other patrons in Biergarten, but I think most people aren't going to try and force a stranger to talk. When we went, there was a family that obviously did not want to be bothered and a pair of young girls who were very social. We talked about our other dining plans with the girls and left the family alone. I'm sure if you just focus on your own family, your plate and the entertainment, most people will get the hint.

If you really don't want to sit with strangers at dinner, then I don't think the Biergarden is the right choice for you. 8 People are seated at one table, all next to each other. It is just as if you had dinner at your table at home. If this makes you uncomfortable, I would choose another dinner spot for dinner.

Steak at FF is very good. It's a NY strip cooked "Pittsburgh style"--ie charred on the outside, but perfectly done the rest of the way.

I like it a lot--and they will prepare it in the normal way if you ask. But I suggest trying it as is.

And the sauce Foyette is very similar to Bernaise sauce--you can get that on the side, or not at all.

I absolutely know how you feel! I'm not a seafood eater myself (amongst other things), nor do I like to sit with other people...

I can't say much about Biergarten, since I've yet to eat there (my bigger, non-solo trip this fall will change that). However, the NY Strip at Flying Fish is quite good. I wasn't all that big of a fan of the sauce last year (2011 was great though), but it was still very good otherwise.

This was the steak last year, do note that I'm a heretic when it comes to steak, and I like it medium-well to well.

We've eaten at Flying Fish, & we enjoyed it.

We do like seafood, but the restaurant isn't one of those "overwhelming" seafood restaurants. It didn't smell "fishy" to me. And it's light, bright, & airy w/ a "pleasantly busy" kind of atmosphere - because we have children, we had an earlier ADR (5:30 pm), so the atmosphere might change as the evening progresses.

I had a non-seafood appetizer - the tomato & mozzarella appetizer which I liked. DH & I did both have fish for our entrée, but our DD had the pork entrée (subbed w/ French fries). I tried some of her pork, &, even plain w/o the sauce since she's more of a "simple" eater, it was quite good.

I don't have a lot of pics from our Flying Fish experience because our younger DS got antsy, & DH & I took turns w/ him outside. In fact, I had to get my dessert to go, & I ate it later that evening on our resort balcony! LOL! And it was still yummy - I had the Banana Napoleon.

Also, if you like iced tea, I LOVED the iced tea at Flying Fish! That's strange, I know, but it just tasted so much better (fresher, crisper, stronger) than any other iced tea I'd ever been served at any restaurant. I even commented on the iced tea to our server, & he said it was a special blend. I also had a lovely glass of wine!

I don't know any of my steak-eating friends who don't like the steak at Flying Fish.

As for Biergarten, are there only two of you? You'll probably be either next to someone you don't know or across from them. As for awkward, it's whatever each person chooses to make it. If it really bothers you then you should probably avoid Biergarten. Maybe Teppan Edo too, although everybody is usually busy watching the chef do the cooking.

We love Biergarten and go there quite often. Over time we've found the Europeans to be very friendly and interesting dining companions. It's kind of hit or miss when dining with other Americans and to tell the truth the hardest to have a conversation with have been from California for some reason. Couple of weeks ago we dined with a couple who we found out were from the same city in Massachusetts I had been born in. Had a wonderful time catching up on the ol' neighborhood.

I've eaten there twice in the past year in a half.

On the first visit, I had the signature snapper. Probably the best seafood dish I've ever had in my life (and even the leek fondue it was served on was great, so much so that I was almost tempted to lick the plate).

The next time, I had the steak and snapper combo. I honestly couldn't decide which of the two I liked better.

I've never noticed a fishy smell in this restaurant. And the service both times was terrific.

I'm not the most social person at all but I love the Biergarten. Except for one couple (who left after one plate and nary a word to anyone), each one of my six times has been very pleasant. We've had people who were shy and some that were outgoing. But, as you said, the atmosphere is fantastic and the food is good. I honestly wouldn't worry about it. You will be with your husband and you can be as quiet as you want or as outspoken as you want. At least you will have one person to talk to during the meal - the darling one.

Quite honestly, I find myself more animated at places where I feel the need to talk to people. Helps me improve myself.

Flying Fish really is fantastic arguably it is the best restaurant on property (besides V&A) They have something for everyone and the restaurant is a lot of fun!

I quite honestly would not do Biergarten the environment is not great and food is just average. If you do not want to sit with others pick something else around world showcase...

I should add that the pork entrée at FF has the best Mac and Cheese in the history of the world, ever (hyperbole aside):

I seem to remember them asking at Biergarten if we had objections to sitting with others (we didn't and it turned out to be enjoyable). I don't know what happens if you say yes.

We've dined at Flying Fish, many times, most recent was this past January. They have a varied menu, for the 4 of us no one had fish, DW & I had steak (really good) one DD had chicken & the other had scallops. We have always had excellent service & dinner was always enjoyable.
