Picnic food?

Hey everybody!

We are planning a beach day and to use a Counter Service meal as a picnic. Any suggestions for what to grab? We're sort of hoping for fried chicken (because it keeps well), but I only know of Table Service fried chicken...

Any suggestions?

I would grab something from DTD. I assume you wouldn't want to use a park ticket just to get picnic food!

You could get chicken tenders from Wolfgang Puck Express, sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich, fried chicken from pollo campero, salads or wraps from fresh apeel, etc.

go out to Earl of Sandwich. I would guess the problem with those sandwiches is that they are heated. You can ask for them not to be toasted.

Fresh Apeel no longer exists. It's now Bodie's All-American. Apparently they still serve sandwiches and wraps as well as burgers.

A beach day sounds like you are leaving early in the morning. If so then your chances of getting Fried Chicken in the morning would not be great. Are you planning to pick up the night prior and put it in your resort fridge?

If you're driving to the beach, I'd stop on the way. Disney food isn't particularly cheap.

I know there's nice fried chicken to go at Fort Wilderness, but I doubt you can get it in the morning.

Pollo Compero at DTD does have fried chicken, but it's not on the kids' menu, so if you're using QS credits and have kids that could be a problem. They have a "Create your own Family Meal" that they MIGHT let you use all your credits for. It says it feeds 4.

As others have said, you'll need to pick anything up the night before as any lunch restaurants won't be serving/cooking lunch until around 11:00 a.m.

Most moderates have some kind of chicken nuggets/tenders on their menu. You might be able to pick it up at your resort the night before.

Contempo Café at Contermporary has some yummy cold sandwiches too.

I would stop at Publix on the way and grab something from the deli counter to go there. You can put together a nice picnic on supermarket prices instead of restaurant prices. Then save the CS credits, since you only get two meals a day on the meal plan.

And if you're going to Cocoa Beach, there are two Publix there, and (at least?) one has a Boars Head sandwich station and lots of good grab n go stuff. Sometimes when I'm there for work I'll grab something there and have dinner on the beach or by the pool ;)

1) Agree.
2) Besides LOTS of local places near the beach on the strip.
. . . fast food
. . . KFC
. . . really good BBQ
. . . fish tacos
3) After all, it is a tourist place.
