Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part One [Thread now FULL and closed]

I searched the thread for "outlets", and didn't find anything, so here goes:

How many outlets are available in a Royal Guest Room? We're going to have a myriad of things to charge... wondering if we should pack a power strip...?

Thanks!!

I've made packing a power strip standard when we travel. They have them now with built in USB port, so you can charge USB devices (iPhones) without having to pack a lot of power bricks. With three of us carrying phones, nooks, a lap top or two, and a couple of cameras, a power strip is must.

Phew. OK. I read somewhere that they left one hour before the theme parks opened and started worrying about my early breakfast reservations!!!

Thanks!

Early breakfast reservations are why they start so early.

A power strip might not be a bad idea. As for the outlets, here's what we had:

1 standard outlet (2 sockets) below the small table/chairs
1 standard outlet (2 sockets) on the wall next to the bed closest to the vanity/sinks room
1 standard outlet (2 sockets) in the vanity/sinks room

The other outlets were either hidden or in use (refrigerator, alarm clock, tv, etc.). So you would have to pull one of those out to use them.

All in all, we found 6 available sockets in our room.

Hey all, we got here on Sunday, and it is AWESOME !!!

Venom, thank you for the fax template and answering many questions, we got the room we wanted. Magnolia Terrace, King, Water view, it is fantastic.

Andre, Thank you for everything you do, for answering questions here and for portorleans.org. Wouldn't have picked this resort without it and we are completely in love !!!

Here is the view from our room !!!

That is an awesome view!! We have a river view booked and have requested Magnolia Terrace for our upcoming trip. Hope we have a nice view like yours.

Our DME stuff came from our TA today!! :cool1: (But alas, no true "Mickey Mail" since we are a room only reservation).

And add me to the list of those who always packs a power strip too :thumbsup2 I like everything in one place so I can just grab them in the AM and not forget anything!

We got home late Saturday night from our first trip to POR. We absolutely loved it! I didn't miss staying in a deluxe resort at all. We were in AB in building 16 and it was great. I did send a request with some help from Venom, and we got what we requested (close to main building, first floor, corner room - much easier for husband who is visually impaired). It worked out great! As a bonus, we were very close to a quiet pool and an easy walk to the bus stop. We just loved everything about it! We took the boat to Downtown Disney and back 3 times. It was a really nice ride! We also walked to FQ once and it was such a pretty walk. We made great use of the quiet pool and also went to Ol' Man Island to try out the slide and the hot tub a couple of times. Tried out Muddy Rivers while there too. :) We ate in Riverside Mill twice and found it to be really good. Clean, good selection, fast service.

I was nervous about the busses because I have heard they can be hit or miss (although, I think that can be said about any resort. It was certainly the case when I have stayed at GF). We had all hits! The longest we ever waited was maybe 15 minutes, and most often a less than that. One morning we got to the bus stop at about 8:30 just as a MK bus pulled up. Instead of getting on and standing we decided to wait for the next bus. I checked the time and it was only 4 minutes before another pulled up. I have to say, there were several times that we stood on a bus on the way home from a park and only one time did anyone offer a seat to my blind husband. That was a bummer, but what can you do!

Besides being nervous about the busses, I was nervous about storage space too. It ended up not being a problem for us. Each of the girls took a drawer under the murphy bed. My husband and I had our clothes on the shelve in the "closet" and we all hung a few things. One of the girls also had some things on one of the selves below the coffee maker and another under the night stand. There was plenty of room under the sink and on the shelve over the sinks for toiletries. It worked out just fine, and that was with 5 people.

All in all, we couldn't have been happier with the resort. The landscaping in AB was so pretty! We would stay there again in a heartbeat! Thank you so much to Andre for maintaining this thread and the awesome POR website! And thanks to Venom too for all the work on this thread and the fax template. I miss POR already. Guess I need to start thinking about the next trip! :goodvibes

Do the early busses go to all the stops or is one better than another to be at? We have to early ADR's in the parks.

Is there a freezer in the refrigerator? I wanted to bring a cooler with ice packs for my toddlers milk and food....I wasnt sure if the refrigerator, being that its a mini one, had a freezer. Thanks! Sorry if this question was asked before. I tried looking but didnt come across it.

No, there are no freezers. The very first post has a lot of info about rooms and amenitites.:thumbsup2

We're here now. They're supposed to go to all the stops. But I'd much rather just walk to the South Depot and know for sure that we were not getting passed over.

Even though we are a little closer to the east depot, this is what we have done as well. There have been a couple busses we have been on at South Depot that do not go to the other stops in the morning because they are full.

That being said, the walk to the south depot is not very far, unless you are in the farthest building in Royal rooms, or maybe a couple in AB, its really not much of a walk.

Of course, take into consideration little ones you may have as well.

There aren't freezers in the room fridge but a friend of mine said they went to concierge and they actually stuck their ice packs in the freezer for them overnight. So if you don't mind going to pick them up that might be an option for you

We just got back - great stay, room exactly what we requested! For some reason, POR is the only resort other than the FW cabins that I get a great night sleep in because they r so quiet:-) and other than these 2 resorts we have only stayed in deluxes & DVCs & I dont't seem to get good, sleep in them, strange (so why waste $$ on a deluxe LOL!)... anyway to answer your question, it depends on the room regarding the frig. When we got there our frig was barely cold and the back was frozen over. I called housekeeping and a CM was there to check it within 10 min. About 10 min later they came in with a brand spanking new refrigerator with a little mini freezer in it! Now this is not the norm but he said these are the replacement refrigerators they are using now. I put our ice packs in them and they froze pretty quickly;-)

Our fridge was not cooling our stuff very well, the fridge actually felt quite warm.

We did the trick we have read here and a few other places, crack the cabinet the fridge is in open, now its running very well and the milk, and beer, are very cold.

I'm bringing a small power strip that also has USB ports. There are 3 iPods, 2 iPhones, 1 camera, a battery charger, and 3 DS games for us to plug in. Better be safe.

You taught me something-- I didn't know those existed!! There is one on its way to me from amazon. Thank you!! :thumbsup2
