June 15 - June 22 2013 Eastern Fantasy

Hello everyone. I have been following along on the thread as our group will be sailing on this cruise. As we are getting very close to out sail date :) I have a question for the experienced cruisers, this will be our first Disney cruise, I was wondering what the average temp level is indoors on the ship in the dining rooms, clubs and theaters, etc? Just to get an idea when packing For the cruise

I found myself and DS needing a little jacket or cardigan in the MDR's most nights. I couldn't really cite a temp, but it often felt a little cool to me. I do tend to chill easily though.

Capris are fine in the MDR's for cruise casual nights. I'd dare say you'll see a few pair on formal night as well!

Thanks! That helps! I will not be wearing them on formal night!

That is good to know!

Thanks. I wasn't looking for the actual number just an idea. this helps to at least know it's more on the cool side. Thanks again.

We got our documents for one of our staterooms yesterday! YAY! It's getting close!

Ok, just when I think I have everything, I read another post that blows it out of the water! DD will be 11 when we cruise. She is super excited about Edge and having that freedom.

My questions:
Can she got to any of the other places like the lab?
Do they serve lunch or dinner at the lab/club?
When do they close them at night?
And just your thoughts...do you usually register at the port or on the ship after you board for the clubs?

We have reservations at Palos one night, but I couldn't leave her by herself for dinner!

I hate stressing over vacations!

I've actually been reading up on those issues and here is what I have gathered so far. When DD first gets there they can go to either Edge or the Oceaneers Club (because she will be 11 also), but from what I have read, most of the kids who get a taste of "Edge" prefer going there over the lab for some reason. I know Oceaneers club/lab offers lunch and dinner. I'm not so sure about "Edge".

Oceaneer's club and Edge runs from 12pm to 3pm and then 4:30pm to midnight.

What I plan on doing is taking a tour of both places during "open house" which is between embarking and 6pm on day 1 to see which she would prefer.

You don't have to register for Edge. Anyone over 10 does not have to register actually. However, here is where it gets tricky and I haven't found a solid answer for this. There's actually a real good debate on the boards about this. Some say if the child chooses Edge, they cannot go to the club and vice-versa. But others have said that this is not the case and they can go in between both with prior approval from the counselors. Maybe someone here can clarify that for us. Or if not, you can just talk to a counselor on board during open house. Hope this helps!!!! :thumbsup2

Both my kids were in the Edge on the Fantasy last June and will be again on this cruise. The Edge is open from 10am in the morning to 1am at night. It does not close in the middle of the day as earlier reported. The CMs do not bring lunch/dinner to the Edge. Since there is no check in or out the kids can and do hit the quick service outlets on the pool deck or Cabanas on their own. I will warn you (parents) the Edge in in the funnel on deck 13 and just below on the pool deck is the self serve ice cream station. The kids hit this all day long and then you wonder why they are not that hungry at dinner. :confused3 It took us about one day to figure this one out. :rolleyes1

Good to know. It looks like Disney needs to update their website and personal navigators then. According to the Disney cruise website on the Disney Dream, the club/lab are open from 9am to late at night. But on the Fantasy, the times do varie and are listed on the personal navigator. I got the times from the most recent personal navigators I found posted on the net. And ambersharley, seeing how we will be neighbors I'm sure my DD will want to hang out with your DD since they are the same age and she just seems to get along with everyone. Just a thought, but they can hang out while you are at Palo so you don't have to worry if it comes down to it.

When we talked about it tonight, she asked us "well, can't I run around with our neighbor at the club?" LOL! I will admit that I'm a bit protective, but she's my only one. :) it is the thought of being on a ship that big with that many strangers that makes me a bit crazy. I really should not watch primetime dramas!

It's a bit hard to think about her checking herself in and out without us knowing. She is exceptionally responsible, but I'm afraid I will even get lost! Is it too late to put one of the kid leashes on?

Ambersharley, if you can make it, come with your family to the Meet & Greet on embarkation day (I believe it will be at 2:45 at D Lounge)! This way, we can all get to know each other, and your daughter will have many other people to keep an eye on her if there are any problems. You will then have many more friends and fewer strangers on your cruise! :)

Also, you will have the Wave Phones, so if you each have one, your daughter will be able to call and check in with you. I wish they had had those back when my girls were still young!

With all us extra parents onboard watching out for the kids and the Wave Phones, there shouldn't be any problems! :goodvibes

I don't blame you one bit. We are the same way. I'll be sure to tell DD she already has a friend waiting for her on the ship. :)

Hi all! My name is Kim & I just learned about DIS boards last night! I've never been on a forum so forgive me if I didn't post this correctly. My family is sailing this cruise and we are very excited! I am only just learning about the FE and am VERY interested in getting my daughters involved (ages 5 & 11). Looking for details as to exactly how it works. I've PM'd the person who seems to be "in charge" but, based on my lack of knowledge, am not sure if that person will recv the message.
I am also very interested in making sure we participate in whatever meet & greet takes place on day 1 in effort to get my girls in touch with others their ages. Your help with all of this is MUCH appreciated. I am stressing all of the sudden and I thought I had my trip all in order!! =)

I also have an 11 y.o. girl and am just learning all about this forum. I share your concerns/protective nature and would love the opportunity to meet up at the meet and greet to intro ourselves and our girls! =)

does anyone know if rapunzel will be on board the ship when we sail ?
this is our first cruise and i am not sure how or where to look to find out what characters will be on board.
thanks

Kim,
:welcome: aboard the Father's Day Eastern Fantasy. Glad you can join us in the fun. Since you do not have 10 posts your PM will not go through but I am the one running the FE. Sorry to let you know but we had a cutoff for signups at 75 days before the cruise. Sorry. Look at this way, it is a good reason to rebook for another cruise so you can join up the FE for that one. Also please please feel free to join the conversation over on the Facebook Page as well. The link is in the first post of this thread. We do plan a meet up of the group in the D Lounge on the Fantasy (deck 4 midships) at 3pm on embarkation day. Do not stress about the cruise you and your family are about to have the time of your lives. If you have any questions regarding the cruise please feel free to ask here or over on the FB page.

Sorry but I have not seen or heard of any reports of Rapunzel being on the ships. To get a list of who has been recently on the ships check out recent Fantasy Navigators. You will certainly see the big five plus most of the princesses, Lilo and Stich etc.

HI! In reference to the post about finding the groups FB page via the 1st post in this thread, how to I find the 1st post in this thread? Sorry to sound so lost but...I am :)

Thank you so much for getting back to me!! At least now I know I'm "in the loop!" Bummer about the FE =(. I'm sure I'll have plenty of posts in no time considering all of my questions =).
