Here now...roach included :/

You are in Florida; be grateful you did not see anything bigger.

If you expect Disney to put a huge bubble over the entire place and keep out the "locals", you need to find another place to vacation.

Saw a rat once at The All-Star Music. It ran out in front of us while we were walking back to our room about midnight, out of a stand of bushes. We jumped and screamed because we were surprised, but then we just walked faster. We're from a big city, Philadelphia, where you can put saddles on the rats so it was no big deal.

After that trip, while on Disney transportation, looking in the trees I see many rat traps "hidden" under mulch or whatever. That fact that I've only seen the one in 20 years of vacationing at WDW always amazes me.

If a palmetto bug gets lodged in your ear, something has gone horribly wrong.
Or you have really big ears.

Yep. One or two of these big ones in not that big of a problem.
It's when you have 3 zillion of the little ones you need to be worried.

This so much. As a resident of Florida, I am used to them and don't sweat the big ones (but I sure don't like them!). I sweat when I see the small ones.

Exactly. They have nothing to do with the room not being clean. They are a fact of life in Florida, and there is no way to bug proof a room at any resort, $400 a night or $4000 a night!

Seeing a palmetto bug (or even a cockroach for that matter!) in Florida is the equivalent to having a spider in your home regardless of where you live. Hotels and restaurants are held to strict standards in regards to keeping roaches under control, they do *not* want to have an infestation, and you can bet that Disney will be right on top of this IF it is a roach. They are very common down south. As others have noted, it was most likely a palmetto and there is nothing to be concerned about other than the "gross out" factor that I totally get! :thumbsup2 They are so skeevie and if they are in your room when you have a light on, they will be drawn to the lampshade and omg is that a total freak out! They move so quickly! GAH!

Try to shake this off and tell yourself it was like having a spider back home, know that Mousekeeping took care of it, and enjoy your stay. :goodvibes

Native Floridian and was going to say this exact same thing. Welcome to Florida and all that comes with it. The Palmetto bugs do not discriminate where they hang out... million dollar homes, deluxe resorts or campgrounds. Just like mosquitoes and alligators. WDW is built on swampland and this is their home.

We were at pop last year for 11 days and had a roach on 2 different occasions in our room. I didn't think much of it. I mean it is just a big bug after all. Of course I made dh get up and take care of it. :). I'm not sure what type it was I wasn't going to inspect it that is for sure. I don't think it is something we should be compensated for. A bug really?

In 2008 we were at Poly and had the same issue. It was gross but we actually have some very comical memories from our daily visitor. They finally had an exterminator come spray the room. They took a couple of nights off our bill. My poor mother almost had a heart attack in the bathroom one night after the roach ran into the shower while she was in it!!!!

There is a way to eliminate palmetto bugs from your hotel room. Seal all the doors and windows and never open them.

I find it kind of interesting that a lot of you are saying this isn't worth a credit, as we received a credit for one night without asking when this happened to us.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????? OMG I shouldnt have opened this thread. Im sooooooooo grossed out right now.

Hubby is an ER doc, as much as it grosses us out he says it's a lot more common than you would think. :crazy2:

Yep came home from summer camp when I was 11 and was having a hard time hearing and sure enough my doctor pulled a bug out of my ear. GROSS GROSS GROSS It still grosses me out to think about it.

OMG I'm so glad I live in the arctic :sad2: We always go to WDW in January and have NEVER seen any bugs - I'm going to have nightmares tonight :crazy2:

I think it is ridiculous to even ask if you should be compensated for what we call water bugs, in your room in FLORIDA.

We had one run across our table near our food when we were eating at Rainforest Cafe at DTD and told them and they sure didn't offer a discount on our bill. They just apologized and kind of acted weird like maybe we brought it with us to try to get something free. We actually smooshed it with a napkin and gave it to them.

We have not been back there since but sure didn't ask for COMPENSATION.

I can't believe what all ppl feel like they should get something free for.

I'm a new member, and I have to ask...is every thread this hostile? I didn't see anywhere that the OP was demanding money back, and everyone is berating her as if she is asking to bring the monorail home. If this is par for the course, I think I'm going to disable my account.
