WDW Commando Club

Ok Commander, I need your help, I plan on going to MVMCP for the first time this year. I need a few tips. I want to go on the first night 11/8 as that is our arrival day and I plan on getting an early flight. I had originally planned on going to Boma for dinner, but it does not open until 5 and we are already going to Jiko and Sanaa later on the vacation. I wanted to know if you thought this was a good idea as I really really want to go to Boma for dinner? Also, does the first night usually sell out within the first month? How would you tour? Bearing in mind I do want to see the fireworks but do not necessarily need to see the characters, maybe a few, idk. Also, I will be doing the dessert party but was saving it the last night, but do you think, due to crowds, that I should book it for the first night as well? Any other tips you have, or anyone else, are welcomed :goodvibes TIA

So, DW and I have been to all the WDW signatures (except V&A) and Jiko is in our top 3. It has such a relaxing atmosphere, exceptional service, and excellent food. Boma was a great buffet - all the different flavors and sights. Sanaa was good, but similar to other Indian meals, which is just not my favorite cuisine. Point being - you have three meals over at AKL which is a lot of transportation time. I try to minimize transportation on my park days - no hoppers and eat in the resort.

The Limited Time Only event for this week on May 4th looks like the coolest one so far, Star wars day:cool1:

I don't think it's a lot based on the plans. Did you check out my PTR? The dinner at Jiko is apart of a Safari we are taking, as is Lunch at Sanaa, which is also on a free day. We plan on staying at AK Jambo house so breakfast and dinner at Boma was going to be easy, until I decided to add MVMCP that is :rotfl2:I do park hop, but I like my meals to be in the same area as you do. I was originally having dinner at Boma later before we went to bed/ stayed at the resort for the night, but now I rather use that free time to hit the party instead of taking time away on a park day. We never go to parks on our arrival/departure days, idk:confused3, just the way we always did it.

It's looking more and more like my upcoming trip to DL in Nov will determine if we head to WDW in 2015. Am having ongoing problems with my shoulders/neck, thanks to the accident in Jan:sad2:. The insurance co (ICBC) has agreed to pay for some alternative treatment for me called Active Therapy, as the Physio is no longer working for me. They have approved the treatment (at no cost), but still have to get doc approval, which I should have next week to start it. I have no idea how my back is going to react to flying, and am very nervous about flying since the accident. But if you don't at least try, how can you know?? This trip is going to answer alot of questions in how much abuse my back can take post accident. So we'll see how it goes. Am so bored, I'm so ahead of the game that it's disgusting for this trip:rotfl:. Gotta get healed up and do the things I've been wanting to do since before the accident. Have a great day everyone!

Must have missed the PTR, sorry. The safari sounds like so much fun. I can't wait to do that. We stopped doing parks on our arrival and departure day as well. Time to enjoy the pool, maybe some shopping, and a nice meal. I think that bus ride from AKL to MK took forever, but that is just because I am so anxious to get there. If you moved Boma up earlier, then that should work. We haven't been in Nov/Dec yet, but when we do MNSSHP, we don't do a park ticket and just get in for the party.

The recovery is dragging on for TOOOO long for my liking. Was told 3 to 6 months, and now it's pushing to 4 months without much progress beyond 75% the past 3 weeks. My biggest problems is that I can't sit or stand for more than 30 mins without my neck and shoulders seizing up on me. I'm not supposed to bend over for any length of time, and lifting over 10lbs blows out my back. Talk about frustrating. We were at a union related event on Sunday, and after standing for an hour, it took a min for my back to unseize enough to re tie a shoe lace on my sneakers. I don't want to have these issues become chronic, so am working with the insurance co in an attempt to avoid this. Have been inactive for too long, and am wanting to resume normal activities, but can't because I'm not fully recovered from the accident. And have been advised not to by my Physiotherapist (grumble!!!!). Such is life in recovery. If I can get back to 80% of where I was before the crash I'm happy. But it's getting there that's the problem right now. Such is life, but am trying to keep a positive attitude over the whole mess. Just hope that this next therapy for the neck and shoulders finishes what the physiotherapy started.

Thank you, I appreciate my commandos helping me navigate these Disney planning waters :) Those extra half days make a difference in relaxing (relative to Disney that is) as well as your pocket book (for those without annual passes).

Phoenix I truly hope you feel better and traveling will work out for you!

Great thread. Cannot believe it took me this long to find it. I am a desperate commando married to a man whose idea of a vacation is to relax in a hotel room. It gets hard at times to get everything I want done. I usually fight his urge for a mid day break or to hop parks wasting valuable time in the middle of a park day. That is why I refused to buy hoppers on our last trip or the upcoming one though. Sometimes I have to give in. A couple of trips ago, I was forced back to the room after breakfast at Chef Mickey's and not allowed to go back to the park until lunch at CRT. I guess a true commando would have just gone to the MK solo. Anyway, I am happy to be here.

:welcome: You are member #234:cool1: Was just getting a chuckle reading one of your TR's that your husband likes to be referred to as CB:lmao:, I'm big on the park hoppers, but I certainly understand that there could be a problem in your case that you might not make it to the next park in a decent time (someone might want to go back to the resort):scared:, you have done the wise choice:thumbsup2. You got to fill everyone in on why he likes to be referred to as CB:confused3

We have a couple Commandos at WDW now, and I know of one who is packing at this moment ready to go:wave2:, I can't wait to hear some reports:thumbsup2

I do not like to hop or take a break for the exact reason you guessed. Once he leaves the park, it is very hard to get him back in. On our last trip, we left Disneyland (still working on that report) right after a late lunch. I had a really hard time getting him to go back. We barely made it back in time for the night time shows.

My user name contains our real last name. He has a unique first name. When you Google his name, all of the results are his. If you Google my name, none of the results are mine, so I never worry. To protect his privacy, he came up with a pseudonym for the boards. He chose Crap Bag. It is what Mike from Friends threatened to call himself if Phoebe changed her name to Princess Consuela Banana Hammock. He thinks it is hilarious.

I hope you make a speedy recovery and feel better soon, one thing I can say is with all the stuff that's been put on your plate, your a true trooper and deal with it, where a lot of others would have thrown in the towel, and that makes you a Commando:thumbsup2

Your husband has a good sense of humor, now if he can catch a little more Disney magic and bring out some of his inner child, you may be singing Zippity Doo Dah:confused3

Welcome. I have not went to the parks without my spouse yet, but I would consider that as an option. We do parks every other day, so we can do the relaxing and commandoing. We don't do hoppers either. Any other cool strategies you implore?

I've reached the point with my recovery that I'm acknowledging that I'm going to have permanent chronic pain in my neck and shoulders from the accident. I've accepted it, but am willing to try things to minimize the impact it's going to have on my life. I'm willing to give the Kinesiology a shot, if it means that it will strengthen the muscles in my neck/shoulders. However, I'm seeing my doc next week and see what he's going to recommend for my problems. I'm going to attempt to slowly return to normal activities, doc approved or not. Am also having major issues with DS10 being bullied by an high functioning Autistic boy and the school is doing nothing about it, despite him being hurt on a daily basis by this kid. Have contacted the school many times (even got the superintendant for the district involved at one point). Have been told that because the tormenter is Autistic there's nothing they can do. Am going to try one more thing, then it's a matter of transferring the kids into the school in our catchment area for the fall term. So much for the anti-bullying stance they have in the schools. But if I'm going to burn bridges, I'm going to do it in style, get the media involved, and have DS10 flatten the kid, which goes against everything I believe in that violence is not the answer to things in life. The fact he hasn't flattened him yet is because of me. But this is pushing the level of my tolerance towards this kind of thing, and at what point do you say enough is enough and act??

Phoneix, good for you for pushing ahead. You have a lot on you plate and I am praying that things if not better, become more manageable. I think the Kinesiology (spelling :confused3) sounds like a good idea. Eventually, something like Yoga or another stretching exercise type program. Have you been drinking shakes or smoothies? Every time I have broken a bone or had work on my teeth (i.e. my wisdom or other TMJ problems) I drink smoothies with added calcium/ protein. Has made a world of recovery just adding one once a day. I particularly love Smoothie King smoothies (they are expensive) or making my own. Try it, I know others who have had their backs broken who have done the same thing and it does make a difference.
Lastly, I am sorry to hear about your son. Have you been able to speak with the parents of this young boy and get them involved? Autistic does not mean he is immune to rules. This anti-bullying thing is IMHO a load of crap. It has accomplished nothing and kids need to learn how to deal with certain things (both bully and bullied) and parents (not you) need to parent and stop relying on everyone and every thing else to raise their kids. sorry, rant off. I just think this anti-bullying is bringing attention to those who crave attention but for all other intensive purposes can deal with things, and the real problem situations are not being handled under the "we tried our hands are tied" mentality. Hugs my dear:grouphug:

The smoothie idea sounds great. I do try to drink at least one glass of milk a day, or at least eat some cheese. I also feel the anti-bullying campaign is a load of cr**p. It just feels like so long as you don't complain about it, it just keeps happening. For the principle, & vice principle to promise to deal with it, then tell DS10 that they can't do anything about it because of his Autism is a cop out. They have talked to the parents, but they are of the same opinion. If you don't acknowledge there's a problem you don't have to deal with it. DH and I have more or less decided to talk to the principle of the school in our catchment area. And if that works out, will fill out the paperwork to have both kids transferred for Sept. But will send a blistering letter to the principle with a cc to the superintend of our district as a parting shot across the bow so to speak. I completely agree with your opinions about this so called anti-bullying in the schools. It's a bad situation all around. I can see mayhem ensue come Sept, when this child decides who his next target is, and the aggression get's worse. At that point it's their mess to deal with. Can't say I didn't warn them about this. The problem is that he can't comprehend that what he's doing is wrong. I've warned his teacher, vice principle, principle, superintendant, and a another person one level above about what's going to happen if they don't deal with this childs aggression issues, so you can't say I didn't warn them. It's now their mess if this child seriously hurts another child. Then who's to blame?? Sorry for the rant, but it's been a very frustrating time for me. It seems like I'm constantly at war these days, when before the accident I rarely went to war with anyone. I've decided that life is too short to put up with the things I've put up with in the past, and am more inclined to call people on things when I feel like I've been wronged on things. I came too close to being paralyzed by this accident, that I appreciate things alot more.

May 11 - A royal coronation ceremony will take place at MK, Merida will be christened a official Disney Princessprincess:, All 10 Princesses will attend together to celebrate the eventparty:

Here here Phoenix! You just keep rising above the chaos. ;)

Ok Commando, so who exactly are the Princesses? Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty (Aurora), Belle, Tiana, Jasmine . . . who are the other 4 official (Mulan, Pocahontas, the girl from tangled- I know I am late but still have not watched that movie, :confused3) I know that's bad on my part but I really don't know who are considered to be the 10. Cool for Merida though:thumbsup2
