Major Pirates Refurb

Wow this is quite interesting i thought they had just done a small refurb not too long ago. I don't think doubling it in size would be very logical either and we all know how Downey construction is. This sounds like a major overhaul and that make me seem like 18 months would be long enough.

Most of pirates is below ground level (at Utilidor level) and outside the park under the train tracks. An expansion of this ride would be a MASSIVE undertaking with very little benefit to Disney.

CM are known to spread rumors for fun. This is one of those cases.

My friend had another CM pretty much squash the rumor last night.

In addition to the small refurb they just did, they did a MAJOR refurb a couple of years ago (I think 2007, perhaps), so it's still relatively current, IMHO.

#2 runs the risk of effectively destroying a long beloved ride.

Amen to that. I understand innovation is inevitable, but some things should remain relatively sacrosanct. IMO, there are two MK rides that should NEVER be significantly tinkered with - Pirates and It's a Small World.

July 10, 2015, the new pirates movie is slated for release. Maybe they are gearing up to reopen the ride when it comes out? But that is longer than 18 months...maybe they are announcing it in August, and it will close later?

I'm headed to DLR next month, I'll ask the tram driver if they're doing it too....

I did just read on allears.net that Pirates will be closed for refurb June 17-20. Obviously not a major refurb, but something. Anyone know what they're doing?

Mermaid? I have ridden this attraction many times and never noticed a mermaid. Where is it?

This was put in sometime towards the end of last year I believe.. they are images in the water before you get to the drop.. Not animatronics. There is also a mermaid skeleton on the beach area on the left hand side.

Yeah, the effect was pretty lackluster when I saw it a couple of weeks ago. I always wondered how it would work if you took a little kid on the new Little Mermaid ride and then POTC...'Mommy, why does that skeleton look like Ariel?!'

As is usually true, this seems unlikely. Probably just something the CM was saying to have a little fun. I'll have to look up the DLR version on YouTube or something as I've never been there and probably never will.
