7/25/2013 Med. Mickey's 12 Night Italian Job - with Nice, Valletta and Dubrov !

Hmmm...I've never had them take alcohol at the ports but yes, they do if you buy the bottles on board-you won't get them until the night before you disembark.

I know they used to take them off you as I said in Caribbean as I used to work Merchandise on ship and we would get them all to store until the end of cruise and then deliver them on last night lol. Always fun to hear the complaints, but there was nothing we could do :)

Wine/liquor question for those who have done the Med cruise before...

I know that we can bring wine on in Barcelona, but are we able to at the different ports? I'm just dreaming about getting a bottle of lemoncello in Sorrento and enjoying it up on deck. Of course, I'm also dreaming of wine from Croatia... and all the other ports.

I'm pretty sure when were went in 2011 there were people bringing beer and wine on at various ports. Maybe the Caribbean cruises are different but Europe is a single market so the issues with duty and customs isn't an issue.
Croatia will be part of the EU when we dock as it's due to join in early July.

So it looks like we are for sure booked on this cruise and will be joining all of you! :)

As to DD being scared, her eyes lit up and she asked if she could go. My DW and DS - not so much. Ghost tour?? are you kidding??? Have to skip dinner??? We have late seating and our afternoon tour that day is done at 7:00 p.m.

I'm looking at scheduling this for DD and I. It would be fun. She needs something right now. We scheduled this cruise so as not to interfere with summer theater that she has done every year. We found out yesterday that the performances this year are all on the weekend of July 26, 27, and 28th. DD was not in a good mood last night. I can't blame her. This is her big social thing. 7 weeks of fun with her friends working on a play, or show, or performance of some type. They set up 4 different shows and put them all on in one weekend. That way all the kids get a part in at least one show. So, the first half of her summer just got blown out of the water.

Every other year the shows were always done by the 3rd weekend in July. Figures that they'd change it up the year we decide to go on a big cruise.
Sorry for the rant.

Sorry that your daugther is going to have to miss the big performance. It must have been a huge disappointment since she's going to be working so hard during the summer. At least she'll still have fun hanging with her friends and doing something she loves before she goes on a wonderful disney cruise!

Get her the ghost tour... it'll give her something to look forward to that she would really want to do. :)

We also have the late dining time but because of this tour, we will just grab a bite to eat at topsiders or room service before we head back out.

Pavilion, I signed DD and I up for the ghost tour. It sounds like a lot of fun. I note we meet on the Rialto Bridge. This type of tour will be a first for us. I really wanted to study para psychology in college, but realized I eventually wanted a family and would need to be able to afford them. So, no such degree. But that doesn't mean I lost interest.

So if Croatia is joining the EU does that mean they will be accepting Euros as their currency?

From what I have read it will be a while before they adopt the Euro. Certain places already accept the Euro but there is no guarantee. You can always use a bank machine to get Kunas as well.

I know Celestine and a few others were wondering about hiking up Vesuvius. We hiked up last July with a (then) 5 yr old and 1.5 yr old. It is long and can be quite hot so obviously morning is best. Be prepared to get VERY dirty. You will be pitch black by the end (especially your feet and legs). Just keep that in mind for any afternoon excursions.

For those wondering about phone/data plans and internet access... we have an unlocked phone and usually buy a sim card for the country we are visiting. If you don't want to get a separate one for all 5 countries you could just buy one for Italy (as that is the country we are in the most) and roam with it if necessary or you could buy a multi-country one but they are usually much more expensive then they need to be. I believe we've used free-wifi in Italy in the past without issue.
I'll post a possible useful link when I get to 10!

They have no intention of joining the Euro, lol! A few places will accept Euros, but that will mainly be hotels etc., not for a souvenir magnet!
