Our little thread of BIG Resort Changes~2013 Spring RC installment

Hey everyone. I just found this thread. Although, I have been to Disney several times, I'm finding myself switching resorts for this trip.

Originally, I was going to WDW on July 2 and checking into BWV then checking out July 3 and into BLT then checking out July 4 and checking into the Dolphin then checking out July 5 and checking into BWV and leaving WDW on July 7. I ended up cancelling our reservation for the Dolphin on the night of July 4-5 and made a reservation for another night at BWV (cash reservation and not points) so that we don't have to switch so much. (We rented points and cannot switch these reservations)

Then I heard that my family was going to Florida too and would be at their vacation home on June 25. I then decided to extend my vacation without my husband as he has to work. I was going to stay with them for the 5 days before I check into BWV on July 2.

But because there would be 11 of us in the house together, I figured 5 days was too much so then I decided to book a hotel offsite for 2 days. I then booked the Wyndham in DTD. But then I noticed that with the rental car, resort fees, etc. I might as well just book a Disney resort.

So then I booked 2 nights at AoA in a LM room. I am super excited as I have never stayed here before as DH would never stay at a value. And just this week, I realized that with 2 little kids, staying at Disney would be much easier than staying at my parent's vacation house for 3 nights so I looked into staying at Disney the entire 5 days.

First I booked 3 nights at All Star Music. Then I cancelled it and booked 3 nights at POR in a Garden View as it was only $100 more. Then I cancelled it and booked AoA for the same price as POR. A LM room at AoA magically appeared for June 27, when it had not been available prior to this. But then I started to miss the idea of staying at POR. I have never stayed there before and since DH isn't with me, now is my only chance as he will only stay deluxe. So I rebooked POR. But now I am having second thoughts about switching so much POR to AoA to BWV to BLT and back to BWV lol. I am thinking to just stay the first 5 nights at AoA and then switch to BWV when DH arrives. Logically this makes sense. However, POR sounds lovely enough to add to my insane hotel hopping. Ahhh this Disney vacation planning is stressful or maybe it's just me? lol

You sure did make my head spin this morning! :faint:

Wow! And my DH thought I was off my rocker when I wanted to do 2 nights offsite, 3 nights AKL, then 3 nights CR (after 1 night in hotel on drive down mind you)... :-)

OMG....just changed my signature in anticipation of tomorrow....tomorrow I will be the mother of a 9 year old!!! :faint:

I can't believe that my sweet baby girl will be 9 tomorrow. Where does the time go??? :confused3

Happy Birthday to your little princess!!! princess:

Great today is ADR day and Disney has the entire system down.

Well guess I won't be doing my ADRs this morning for the 2nd half of my trip!!! :furious: So glad I got BOG for the first half on my trip! :thumbsup2

Good Morning!

Thank you all for your kind words :grouphug:. You guys are the best! ::yes::

I'm feeling a change coming on for August. After another trip enjoying being spread out, I think it's beyond time for us to try out larger accommodations. Everyone is just so much happier when we aren't on top of each other. Six in one room is :crowded:

That said, I think we are going to bite the bullet and try offsite. :scared1: We don't use the DDP or EMH. We can get a free minivan rental with rewards from all of DH's work related travel (and prefer driving to busses/ME anyway). APs pay for parking. We never have stuff shipped to our room and I'm used to carrying APs/Room Key/Gift Cards anyway so the KTTW thing is no big deal for us. I think all of the typical onsite bennies may be lost on us  Except for close proximity to parks, I guess. And the magic... :wizard: There is the magic. :worried:

Anyway, I got some quotes for WBC awhile back, I'm gonna try to see if they still have room. Right now I'm thinking Poly CL for 3 nights (gotta try a refurbed Hawaii for a least a part of the trip! :thumbsup2) Then do 7 nts at WBC.

Grumpy Grandma - Was it you that liked WBC? I may need to hear some offsite love to make this work. ;)

I did enjoy my week at WBC. The walk around the lake was really nice, enjoyed my balcony view of the lake and pool, the pools were really fun ... the only thing I didn't like was the free shuttle. This isn't a factor for you as you'll have your own car. Actually the only problem with the shuttle was that it didn't run from about noon until 3 or 4 pm .... this seemed to always be the time I wanted to head back for a little pool time.

Also as Magic mentioned all the Marriott timeshares are nice. I've stayed in them in San Diego, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Lake Tahoe, Park City and two different resorts in Orlando. The Grannies will be trying out another one in December.

I am know as a bit of a split stayer (is that a word???) but even for me this is a lot. I've found that for me except for arrival or departure nights when I'm just adding on because of airfare I really need at least two nights to really enjoy what the resort has to offer.

GG Welcome Home!

Welcome home!! I'm glad y'all had a good trip.

Glad you had a great trip! Welcome home!:flower3:

Glad you enjoyed your visit to my part of the world, sorta :) we are a 3 hr drive north of Seattle. It does rain here a lot ::yes:: not nearly as much sunshine as Calif. but when the sun shines, there's no place better!

pixiedust: Happy Birthday.

Thank you all for the warm welcome back!!! Sue M I was amazed that from Seattle I could be in Portland in 2 1/2 hours and Whistler in 3!!! There just seem to be so much to do in that area. After a nice cool weekend up there I came back to 90+ here in Sacramento. The sunshine in CA is nice but where I am there are 3+ months of the year when I really don't go outside during the day because of the heat. Next step is to get DH up there to see what he thinks! :cool1:

Well, as one trip has come to an end, the planning for another has just begun....:rotfl:

Question?? Aiming for April, but due to DH work schedule, might have to do August....thoughts???

Obviously we did July last year....is August much different? Thinking at the end of August there will be very low crowds??? :confused3

Heat wise not much difference. Late August you should have lower crowds because most kids will be back in school. I liked September when we went. Crowds were not an issue at all and we got to do MNSSHP! :-)

MM We went twice in August the first week and the last week and I do not recall the crowds but the thing I remember even more than the oppressive heat and humidity was the rain. We had a few downpours that lasted a while, I am a rain hater and even worse is sweating under a poncho in that heat. Did I mention when you stepped outside it was like walking into an oven even in the morning. If possible I would try to avoid August. We did the August trips due to Sports and school, I could never go during August now that I am older.

We had good luck with the Doubletree Suites near DTD, but then again, we are Hilton people. But it was definitely more reasonable than on site...

Oh my. I'm at a loss for words.:goodvibes You very much belong here! ::yes:: The most splitting I've done is 4 resorts in 9 nights. It was a bit much in hindsight, but we had an absolute blast at the time!

My aunt & uncle are "golf" people and they stay at all the beautiful Marriott Vacation locations around the WDW area. They've gone all over the world and they come back every year for 6 weeks to the area. We've visited them at several Villas and they are all just beautful. :thumbsup2 Marriott also does the Autograph at Celebration which we enjoyed A LOT!

Oooh. We have TONS of Marriott Rewards. I may have to look into this. Thanks! :goodvibes

Happy Birthday to your DD! :bday:

Forgot to mention stupid me showed Bob the article about the BW Bakery re-opening in Disney Food Blog and now he wants to go back there. He started going on about how much he likes it there. I told him he will love the Poly too!

Have to get lots of Poly food pictures now to temp him away from the BWI :rotfl:

Great Review if anyone is interested

As I'm sure is no surprise to anyone here, I'm already pulling back from the idea of offsite. I want my YC. I want to price out a Poly CL/YC CL spit. Probably 3 and 5. Stoopid magical system upgrades. :badpc: I toyed with dropping CL but DH will hear none of that. :confused3 He is more of a princess than I am! :rolleyes:princess:

Well, I was able to make the majority of reservations via the telephone. Got the coveted Be Our Guest dinner, along with a few of my other favorite restaurants.

Promise promise promise to catchup this evening. Steven now has modified days at school which for the time being means he is only at at school for about 2 hours then does the rest of his work at home with me. Missing my RC family :(

HUGS,
Melissa

I know several of y'all have been this year, and I was wondering if you have a picture of the refillable mug. JM was asking if they would look the same, or different. I assumed it would be different, or at least I hope they are different.
