Any good Treat or meal ideas that you have had that are Paleo... if so, where did you find them. Thanks in advance for the tips! :thumbsup2

I don't know... Disney is still pretty entrenched in the low-fat dogma side of nutrition. I doubt they offer grass-fed beef, etc.

I am looking for more Paleo friendly, I am sure I will have to break paleo habits while there. just wondering if anyone has found anything close. Like Turkey legs would be an acceptable choice

I think you will mostly need to make substitutions (ex sub veggies or sweet potato for mashed potatoes) or eliminations (ex order entree salad without cheese). Though, I am sure many of the salad dressings contain sugar, so not sure if you are willing to flex there. The Colony Salad at Liberty Tree Tavern and the Chicken Strawberry Salad at The Plaza Restaurant are two of my favs, but again, not sure of the contents of the dressings. You may do well at some buffets. I am also thinking Ohana may be a good choice. You could skip the bread, noodles, and bread pudding if you wish (however if I was going to make diet exceptions I would make them here... Yumyum) and still have salad, cooked veggies, steak, pork, shrimp, and chicken (all in endless supply). Garden Grill, which is family style character dining, offers a similar situation with salad, garden veggies, fish, turkey, and beef. You would have to skip the bread, dessert, and I think you may be able to sub sweet potatoes for mashed here. Lastly, check out the menu for The Wave (Contemporary Resort). They have several meals that I believe fit the bill exactly, and possibly even a dessert or two that may work for you.

I will try to think of some quick service options and report back later. My family is not Paleo, but we follow a diet that is along those lines. I find it pretty hard in Disney, and we end up making a lot of exceptions. I try not to sweat it too much because I am finding that spending a yearly vacation in WDW with my family contributes greatly to my happiness and well-being. But I do wish there were more yummy health-conscious, organic whole food options available.

There is no way a >1000 calorie turkey leg is on any diet. Unless you are planning to split that turkey leg 5 ways or more, lol.

Maybe you could bring a little jar of homemade salad dressing and get salads? There is actually a Paleo Disney blog I've seen... I'm not at my computer but you could google it. We'll be stopping by Whole Foods on our way to our resort (staying off site in a place with a kitchen) to pick up paleo snacks for bringing into the parks. Some places sell fruit. I would imagine a buffet style place would be easiest as would breakfast places- eggs!!! :-)

I haven't been to Disney since I went paleo, but I generally just stick to no gluten and little sugar as general rules when going out to eat. I don't think they have too many truly paleo meals.

Pork shanks at Gaston's Tavern are on my list of things to try. Giant dill pickles are on our list, too. Frozen chocolate bananas are pretty easy to track down. And I have had some of the best pineapple of my life at some of the fruit stands.

Comic Ray's is a good bet for counter service in Magic Kingdom. Tangerine Cafe in Epcot has awesome shwarma. Flame Tree BBQ in animal kingdom has great chicken and ribs. No good recommendations for Hollywood Studios, but maybe there's one out there.

I have been scouting menus in hopes of finding other hidden treasures. A good thing to do anyway, but extra good when looking to plan around an eating plan. I've been hoping to find hard boiled eggs on some of the fruit stands, but no luck yet. We are more primal than paleo, so I have tracked down some interesting cheese options if you do any dairy.

Buffets, especially for breakfast, are a great way to go. TS is usually really accommodating with substitutions, so it's easy to get steamed veggies in place of other sides. You can sub fruit for dessert most sit downs too.

Have a great trip and enjoy your indulgences!

We were just there and tried to stay paleo for a week. Pretty hard to do but we found a few things we could count on.

1. Berries at Tomorrowland Terrace. Had them hold the whipped cream.

2. Steak at most table service places and were very able to add extra veggies instead of the other stuff.

3. Flame Tree BBQ at Animal Kingdom. Again substitute whatever they'll let you.

4. Most resorts offer omelettes for breakfast and salads for lunch.

Worst thing we did was have wine at most dinners. This was a hard tradition for us to break. We decided not to stress about it.

I found that old habits die hard. One day at lunch I saw a family eating pizza so I thought what the he** and got a kid's sized one. I was ill for the rest of the day.

On another day my wife and I shared a macadamia nut cookie at the resort grab and go. We both experienced a serious "brain fog" for a couple of hours after that.

Oh and I had a Mickey Ice Cream Bar once during the week. I used to have at least one a day.:(

At the end of the week I gained 5 pounds that I lost quickly once we got home.

This after eating paleo for only 3 months before. Next year we'll have been paleo for over a year and I hope we'll be even more resourceful and successful than this year.:)

This will be me too come December, though I'm not completely strict about it. It can be hard to keep out the processed crap while at WDW, but there are a few great suggestions so far - I would also add the roasted salmon with broccoli at CHH in MK. Signatures will be more likely to have better quality meats on their menus and I think bringing some packages of pre-made dressing (that's a better option than the ones they have at the parks) could make any salad a good choice. At least Disney is typically very good about leaving things out and swapping like items for sides, etc. I bet you'll be okay with a little planning ahead. You can always check out menus here on the Dis or other places ahead of time and find good options that way too.

I do Paleo also but during the trip I throw all that aside (and feel gross while doing it lol). Anyways...I think you could absolutely stick to meat and vegetables without issue but as far as strict paleo, no way. Ohana's meats are all covered in soy. I guess it depends how strict you need to be...meats and veg you can get anywhere. Stick to things that are grilled and not fried in questionable oils.

Our strategy is:

*breakfast - bring high-protein bars (Quest Nutrition), lox/salmon, nuts.
*lunch - CS that have high protein (see comments above)
*dinner - buffets are a fabulous choice

Where we will suffer is with snacks. Those will be decidedly UN-paleo, and may even contain (shudder) gluten. I will shrug that off, and return to our almost paleo lifestyle when we return. I will not sweat it for one week...

Almost all restaurants will sub green veggies for starches. I am 100% Paleo. At the world i just have to go withouth grass fed and organic. But I try very hard to stick to grilled/baked protein and green veggies. There are a lot of fruit options for snacks! Any table service will accomodate a gluten free diet if you mark it on your reservation. Disney is awesome when it comes to accmodations!
