Hi everyone,

Would someone please tell me how many points needed to be purchased to become a founding member at Animal Kingdom Villas and Bay Lake Tower?

Thanks!

I believe it was 160 but you can only be a founding member before the resort opens.

Are you asking what the minimum purchase is for first-time owners? Because you can't arbitrarily become a founding member of a sold-out resort or another that's been selling for years.

As I recall it was the minimum new member point requirement which at the times was 160 pts. On the other hand for VGC you had to make a purchase of a different resort prior to VGC opening and then you had the opportunity to become a founding member there. I think it was a 100 pt VGC contract that was required but then you had already purchased other points to even qualify for it.

For those that asked - founding members at AKV received their names on a tapestry that hangs in the library at Kidani and also a small keepsake for their home. At BLT it was a tile on the fountain in the courtyard. At Aulani it is names on a large boulder (lava?) out along the ocean walk - at least that is what I saw there. VGC founders received a framed print that hangs in the 1 and 2 bedrooms there but nothing at the resort.

If I remember correctly sales during the founding member time had a higher price. We waited until later at BLT and got a "discount" and a "free" 7 night cruise.

Given the recent price increases, I am not anticipating too many perks or discounts for the VGF presale.

I'll have to check that tapestry out...wasn't aware it was there. We had friends stay on our points and they were there opening day. They received an ornament of the Tree that looks like the roots are on top. We have that now.

AKV was 150 points (the minimum back then). BLT was 160.

Also Founding Member status was only available to existing DVC owners to added to their points at the new resort. You couldn't buy AKV or BLT as a new owner and receive the Founding Member status / perks.

The tapestry is actually a ceremonial robe.

The buy-in for founding members at AKV was 150 points.

If the founding membership requirement is 150 or 160 points and VGF pricing starts at $175, then the initial buy-in will be $26,250 to $28,000.

I thought at BLT they did allow people who didn't own to become founding members, and again at Aulani.

Not true. I was on the fence about purchasing points at BLT (I already owned at SSR and AKV). I was on DCL in Nov 2008 and they still had a few slots available to be founding members. Sales had been going on for a few months and they still had not reached the 1,000 member limit due to lack of existing members wishing to purchase 160 points.
I purchased 160 points for $107 ($112 less $5 developer credit) and also received matching developer points. I have a tile on the fountain that I visit once in a while.
I also added on an additional 50 points (direct) in Oct 2009 and paid the same $107. My how the price has gone crazy since then.
