Kudos to limo company owner!

The owner of the limo company/car service we use to takeouts the airport posted this on his Facebook tonight.

Sorry kids no drinking in my limos! Picked up prom kids at 6:15pm called parents and removed them at 6:45pm. I feel bad for the parents that put up the money.

I love it!!! He added that he had received cash up front!

It sounds like the parents were still out their money, but as a parent, I would appreciate the fact that he didn't allow the kids to drink.

ETA: And my kid would be reimbursing me for whatever money I had lost - whether it be money or working off the debt.

I think you misread the post you quoted. They were saying that the driver could have just let the kids be reckless since he already got his money, but he chose to do the right thing and inform the parents.

Oh, I guess that could be what was meant? Anyway from what I know of renting limos for prom, it's usually in the contract that any alcohol in the car results in getting kicked out with no refund. I totally agree with this of course and it could be a big liability issue for them if they didn't do that. At a couple of the proms my dds went to, the drivers actually checked bags etc. before the kids got in the limo.

That is what I meant. He could have very easily blown it off just to get a tip, maybe, at the end of the night. I'm glad he did the right hing.

LOL---we brought a cooler into the limo with alcohol for our prom! I know the drinking age back then was 18 but I had just turned 17 so I was underage and some of the others dates were not seniors either so they were underage, it was no big deal then.

Good for the limo driver. He deserved to keep the fee and frankly, I would have tipped him.

Considering that the boys in question are only 16-18 years old, one lap around the block should have given more than enough time!

When they became owners of a couple million dollars worth of vehicles, a lucrative airport contract and facing a sue happy public. Not to mention it is illegal in my state for underage kids to drink and the driver who permits it can be fined and arrested plus lose all of those contracts.

He posted later that one of the parents threatened to sue to get their money back (inspite of signing a contract which stated all of the terms) when they had to pick up their kids.

Our school district fixed this by busing all the students to the prom. You are not allowed to show up in a limo or you will not be allowed in. Everyone comes to the school and then get put on buses. Seems to have fixed the problem.

This is what my HS has been doing for years. Prom takes place at a separate location (usually downtown about 30 mins from school). Everyone wanting to attend prom arrives at the HS for the grand march and introductions (they decorate the auditorium and have a pianist playing the prom song and everyone walks the stage for pictures). Then everyone boards coach buses that were decorated by the middle schoolers. When you get to the prom location, everyone sits and dinner starts (catered buffet dinner). Then there is dancing, etc. After prom you have the choice to go back to the HS or head to post prom (sober party held usually at bowling alley where they set up poker tables, various activities, food, etc).

I believe tickets were $110 a couple, which covered bus, food, and prom itself. I think post prom was an extra $10 per person.

The limo driver my son had last night got all the parents and kids together before they loaded up into the limo and reminded them of the no alcohol rule on the contract we all signed.

I was glad for that. Although our group didn't bring anything other than the girls having teeny purses, I thought it was a good thing for the driver to do.

He told me that the previous night a few of the teens he was driving showed up with flasks/water bottles with alcohol in them (he checked per the contract) and he had to have the parents take them away before he would leave the school.

He vented on his personal page and not his business page, but I think he should have on hits business page.

It lets clients know he is serious about his policy. Good for him!
