I'm soooo excited for the new glass slipper challenge. I know I'll be able to do that one. Now to just talk the DH into letting do the tink for the pink coast to coast!

I had absolutely no intention of doing a disney race until dopey of 2015...but two races/three medals that are princess themed? I'm in!

Any tips of keeping the price tag down as much as possible? I don't really care too much about the hotel/room since between the parks and the races I won't be there for much, anyways. I don't want to rent a car, but if were any great deals to be found offsite that included transportation for the race, I would be open to that, as well. Thanks!

How far away do you live? Right now it's cheapest to drive if you live within a 13 hour drive. That's what I do. I also pack food to help cut down on the coast

Oh I'm SO tempted, but I think since this is my first half, I need to control myself and plan to do the Glass Slipper Challenge in 2015. I'm bummed to miss the inaugural, and I was telling my husband that it's murder b/c my blog name (Losing the Glass Slippers) seemed to be screaming for me to do it, but I also don't want to push it and then not get to experience my first half in the way I want to!

That's ok, just makes a good excuse to go again the following year! :lmao:

It's my first half... you should do it. I'm gonna do it. How can you miss the inaugural medal???!!!

I'm in fairfield county, ct. I don't think we'll have the time to drive since we'll be short on vacation days - I was thinking flying fri, getting the expo done and relaxing, running and parks sat/sun, park half the day on mon, and then leaving monday to go to work on tues. It's just my and fiance (no kids), so at least it's just two plane tickets as opposed to a whole family

Definitely plan on packing food - at least breakfast and some snacks in the park! Not only to save money, but to help stay on track, too. There's still plenty of junk to be had, but it helps to at least start the day off right, and at least have some snacks so you don't overeat on the bad stuff

I don't know, I am easily injured and I'm skiddish about pushing myself too much. I am training for this already and I KNOW I will be strong for my first half, but I think doing the 10K the day before would somehow diminish from my first half. Somehow I feel like it should be in order, ya know? First a 5K (done), then a 10K (next month!), then a half...and eventually a challenge like this! I just don't want the Glass Slipper challenge to overshadow what an accomplishment my first half will be.

Besides, then it gives me a very valid excuse to plan another trip (which helps when convincing my husband that we need to go back to WDW, YET AGAIN!) ;)

So yesterday I went for my training run right after reading the Glass Slipper news here and ran my 5k in 38:15, which was a PR! :cool1:

Then this morning was my first official 5k race! And my chip time was........ 34:02!!!!! :cheer2::banana::cheer2::banana: This was a substantial PR, I still can't believe it! I had secretly been hoping to finish under 35mins but not really expecting to shave thaaat much time off what I'd been training at. But I think the gorgeous weather and exciting runDisney news and race-newbie adrenaline all helped!! Now to start training for a 10k in June! haha :thumbsup2

For those of you planning to do the GSC next year, are you going to incorporate a 10k/half marathon back-to-back sometime in your training between now and then? Or just train for the half and hope you can handle the 2 races in 2 days thing?

I'd bet it will be the same course as the January 10K.

Good luck in Nashville, I'm headed to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby half tomorrow.

Let us know how the Derby Half goes! I'm in Cincinnati, and we have the Flying Pig half next weekend. Let us know if the Derby race is a fun one!

I am not an expert - but I imagine it would be good to do some back-to-back training days. For example, if I plan on doing 10 miles on Sunday, I would do 5 miles on Saturday. The idea is to be able to do longer distance with legs that might be a little tired. This will all be very individual - depends on your fitness level, how much you've been running (or walking, I'm a walker), etc. In 2012, I did the WDW half on Saturday and the Chip & Dale Marathon Relay on Sunday - and I didn't do any special training. But, I made sure that I was diligent about training for that weekend.

So, who is going to add the 10K and run the GLASS SLIPPER CHALLENGE???

Breaking news for RunDisney fans! Princess Half-Marathon weekend will now feature a 10K. Completing both the 10K & Princess half-marathon will earn you a Glass Slipper Challenge medal and completing both the Princess half-marathon at Walt Disney World and the Tinkerbell half-marathon at DisneyLand Resort will earn you a special coast-to-coast medal with a pink overlay & lanyard!

Registration for the Princess half-marathon begins June 11. Registration for Tinkerbell half-marathon begins June 11 if you are also registering for the Princess half-marathon, otherwise it will start on July 9.

:scratchin

::yes:: I think I just may have to!

I really want to do this. I just have to figure out how to make it work. Four girly medals, and it is Cinderella themed?! I collect Cinderella things. Hmmm...

For the Goofy, Galloway put out a training plan that has a shorter long run on Saturdays and a longer long run on Sundays, both of which gradually increase over time. I don't know if he'll come out with one for the Glass Slipper Challenge, but if not, you can check out the goofy one and modify it for the shorter goal distances. That's my plan, but I'm working on getting my base back up to three runs a week, 4 miles, 4 miles (speed) and 6.2 miles for a month or two before I even think about adding a fourth run day.

The dumbo dare challenge is the same thing as the glass slipper. In my blog I have a link to the PDF training plan for dumbo if you want to check it out

Galloway has you walk Saturday and run Sunday starting about midway into training for the back to back runs. He recommends going easy on the Saturday race so you can run hard on he Sunday race.

Congrats on first race/PR! Race day adrenaline can do wonders, especially as your first learning your limits!

I think training between now and then will greatly depend on your current fitness. I'm a seasoned runner, and I run 6 days week..averaged 45 miles/week with 2-3 days of speed work for my training for next's week goal half marathon. So I'll probably just incorporate the two races into my weekly schedule and not really change my training much. BUT, I've been running consistently for a few years now and I'm working one-on-one with a running coach...I would definitely not recommend this intensity level for a first year runner!

I think working toward a 10k in June is a perfect goal! From there, would you consider a fall half marathon? It's always good to work out the kinks at a local race (less logistics), and it will give your legs a chance to see what half marathon training is like. Then you can do a reverse taper (i.e. slowly build up the mileage again), throw in a couple of back-to-back runs, and then you'll be good to go for the glass slipper challenge

I feel like if you were well trained to run the half marathon you would be able to do the 10k the day before and be alright. However, a little back to back training is definitely a good thing. I'm hoping to do that as long as the weather is cooperative. After all, I'll be doing the bulk of my training November-January in New England!

Congrats on the great 5k!:banana::banana:

Thanks!! :goodvibes I'm not ready to add a 4th run day yet either. But the Galloway training plan sounds appropriate! I saved the link, thanks for sharing! I'll have to work up to that

Wow! I can tell you're a seasoned runner! After the June 10k I am indeed planning to work up to a fall half marathon! I'd actually love to squeeze it in August when it might still be hot/humid here so that it's in somewhat Florida-ish conditions, but I'm not really sure that will give me enough (realistic) training time after the 10k. Maybe I'll have to travel someplace hotter for a fall half! :scratchin:
Congrats on your PR!!!!
Thank you!! :woohoo:

New Orleans Jazz 1/2 is in October and that is usually warm. If you sign up soon it is only $50.

Let us know how the Derby Half goes! Let us know if the Derby race is a fun one!

It is fun! I ran it in 2011 as well. Lots of crowd support, good course for the half, you run the infield at Churchill Downs in mile 8. My only complaint is that 2-3 of the water stops were NOT ready for the the runners. We literally stood there & waited for our cups to be filled. I don't wear a water belt in a race that advertises 9-10 stops for a half, but maybe I should have...

Forgive me if this has already been asked and answered, Princesses, but is there anything more solid than a rumor out there about changed proof of time requirements for the starting corrals? I've seen the updated requirements on the registration page for the WDW Marathon weekend, but the PHM page hasn't been changed.
