Anyone here about upgrades?

I have been told that a neighbor got a freeupgrade from an all star resort to an animal kingdom savanah view. I have never heard of this. just wondering what anyone else knows about this ?

A few years ago some friends of mine had multiple reservations for Pirate-themed rooms at CBR. This was when they were new and all the Pirate rooms were overbooked.

They actually had four reservations covering two weeks, as various people were arriving and departing on different days. They were contacted and asked if they would be willing to pay about $100 per day extra, but they would be upgraded to the Contemporary Tower. They agreed to this, and found out that they actually had been upgraded to a suite on the 14th floor (concierge level) for the entire stay.

In 2010, I booked 9 days at POP. The same night I got an email saying I won a free upgrade to a 1 bedroom villa at either OKW or Saratoga Springs. I chose OKW and had the best experience ever. FYI, it was off-season in Feb.

We were booked in a studio for our stay last week @ okw. We did not do online check in (couldn't say if it made a difference or not)-- but we received a free upgrade to a 1 bedroom villa! I thought maybe bc we put a special request in for 1st floor / or elevator and we got 2nd floor w steps only- far from everything! It was nice tho. :) good luck

That would be a crazy upgrade! Why would Disney do that? Are your neighbours VIP's of some kind who disney felt the need to impress?

I cant see why disney would ever upgrade any normal visitors by so much - especially when they have so many other options between the level of all star resort up to AKL savanah view!!

Actually, it's quite common. Disney has a habit of overbooking the values. They usually move the people being bumped over to a deluxe.

We were all booked 3/12 for our first trip to WDW. Booked a Royal room at POR, The refurb got pushed back and the rooms were not ready in time for our visit. Disney called about 3 weeks before our trip and we were upgraded to the Poly!

I guess it worked out well for us and Disney, because we were spoiled and will only stay deluxe now.

ok, but surely the Savanah rooms are quite popular - surely they'd try for somewhere like OKW which they always seem to struggle to fill, or even AKL standard view first?

If I'd booked all stars and got upgraded to a savanah view I'd feel like I'd won the lottery I think!

If Disney gives an amazing upgrade, instead of a smaller one, the family is sure to tell their friends when they get home. When their friends go to Disney and are deciding between on-site and off-site, they remember the magic upgrade story and book onsite (for the same reason people buy lottery tickets).

If the Savannah-view room looks like it will be unoccupied, I think it makes sense to go with that one. It doesn't cost Disney anything extra.

We got upgraded to Club Level with the most amazing view of stormalong bay and the Boardwalk last February at Beach Club, it was a total surprise at check in! Half my family didn't even know what was going on when they took us in the elevator to go check in. Best trip ever!

I've checked in to WL to a woods view standard room, and have been upgraded to concierge level.... This has happened on 2 different occasions... It might have been that it was my anniversary both times, but still and awesome upgrade

We went one year before a cruise and booked the least expensive room type at Coronado Springs. When we arrived they upgraded us to a suite! Not quite a value upgrade to deluxe but it made our stay extra magical.
