SURPRISE for Christmas- any ideas on telling them the news?

We are going to surprise our kids with the NYE cruise, and I was wondering if anyone has an great ideas on how to tell them the news? Thanks!

How far in advance do you want to tell them? I'm guessing by your thread title, you'd like to do it @ Christmas. I'd go out and get a fancy Christmas box @ some place like Michael's or Hobby Lobby (like this http://www.boxandwrap.com/nestedboxesboxco.html) and then fill it with all sorts of DCL stuff along (including your trip documents) with NYE stuff to decorate your stateroom door. Then on top of all the goodies in the box, have a letter from Santa, Mickey Mouse or whomever you want the gift to be 'From' and have it tell all about the New Year's Eve cruise. We've done this many times before for both DCL cruises and trips to WDW & DL. Sometimes the trips have been from Santa. One time a trip to WDW was from Rudolph and we had special daily envelopes for them to open each day of the trip that explained the days events and gave them Disney Dollars to spend on specific items for that day as a souvenir or some fun snack or such. Sometimes the DCL trips have been from Mickey, Mickey & Minnie or even Donald Duck!

Have as much fun with it as possible!

I made up a photo and had a jigsaw puzzle made out of it. My DD had to put the puzzle together that told her we were taking a cruise.

I came across a few ideas that I love so I'm going to combine them! First I love the scavenger hunt....follow the clues idea so I'm gonna do that where her last clue takes her to a box filled with a disney helium balloon and a note announcing the cruise! Also I love a count down idea so in the box will be her carry on bag filled with numbered wrapped present! The amount of presents will depend on how many days before I tell her and will be things she needs for the cruise (autograph book, sunscreen etc.)! It seems like a lot but I couldn't decide between surprising her with the cruise and letting her do a countdown!

& for our NYE cruise in addition to door decorations we put in fun party favor type stuff for actual NYE to wear to dinner and the NYE deck party. Items such as:

Wow - thanks so much for these great ideas. My girls will be 8, 7, and 4 when we sail. All of these ideas are great!

One more question - I've searched, but I cannot find this- do you know if anyone has posted personal navigators for the Disney Fantasy NYE sailing? I'd love to see them!
