You do have to bring it in your carry on. We use one of those little luggage dollies.

They want you to carry on any type of drinks so that they don't leak thru the luggage and maybe into others as well.

There is really no need to bring bottled water on the ships. The water at the tap is as good if not better then most bottled water. We usually bring a 6 pack of water and then refill as needed!

We bought plastic thermos bottles at the dollar store and refilled them with ice at the beverage station. The tap water is as good or better then bottled water because of the process they use to purify it.

Empty water bottles are fine in checked bags. If you're bringing bottles of water then they need to be in your carryon bag.

I'm assuming you are talking about sealed bottles of water. It's probably really unnecessary. I believe the tap water on the ship is reverse osmosis filtered, which would make it cleaner than bottled water once you consider the plastics that leach into the water from the bottle.

On a related note, we had brought our own lidded water cups that we could refill throughout the day and security made us dump out the water before we could get through the checkpoint.

We have. I think in all our cruises we've only had to have a sealed waterbottle to take off the ship one time.

We always get a sealed "flat" of water and slap a luggage tag on it. Never had an issue.

Alcohol is permitted on board. However, any fragile items (including alcoholic beverages) must be hand-carried on board in the carry-on of an adult Guest – age 21 or older (dimensions can't exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep).

Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

Guests who arrive in the dining room, including Palo and Remy, with a bottle of champagne or wine will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

Thanks - we have actually done it this way the last two times we have sailed on DCL, and we did it this way on our recent sailing on Royal Caribbean.

The point of that rule is to not have water bottles in CHECKED BAGS. With this, the water bottles *are* the checked bags and they are not inside any other luggage/checked bags and will not explode inside. They are what they are.

We have seen tons of people do this - this is why we started doing it as well.

Of course, if you are an exact rule follower - then don't do it. What is the risk of us doing this? They take the flat of water and don't let us board? OK, then I'm out 3.50 or whatever the flat cost.

Why do we do this? The water onboard is salt water that is desalinated through reverse osmosis. For some reason, I have found that the reverse osmosis thing doesn't work that well for me because there is still a high level of salt in the water compared to bottled water. I end up retaining water like crazy, so much so that my shoes don't fit. Although I hate the taste of bottled water with the plastic, I have water retention issues while on a cruise so I have to do it like this so I will get enough water that is not previously salt water. Once I have started drinking more bottled water (and not relying on the desalinated water) I have done much better.

Anyway - YMMV, take on an empty bottle to drink the onboard ship water, or do the flat with a luggage tag taped on - just wanted to share our experience.

Agree with the posters who have said the water on board is fine. Its better than that actually since its very pure. Bring along a refillable bottle for use in the ports and you'll save yourself a lot of unnecessary lugging.

The risk of doing that is that the case of water may get crushed and leak all over my luggage ruining all my expensive clothes inside. You may only be out $3.50 for the water, but you are also going to pay for all my ruined stuff. And as big as you think the cruise ship is, I will find out it was you that ruined my stuff and we'll run into each other constantly and I'll be sure to give you dirty looks every time for making my cruise miserable because I have to wear shorts on formal night and people will be giving me dirty looks.

So will the porters take your case of water with a luggage tag slapped on it, sure, they want their tip. But you better hope nothing happens between the time you turn it over to the porter and it is delivered to your stateroom. Disney isn't going to take any liability -- it's against their published rules and the porter doesn't work for them. So that case of water may cost you more than you think.

Its a vaction, Disney has water for you to drink that is great on board. On shore days their was a person selling bottled water were we met our group. Very resonable price. You are on vacation enjoy.
I was suprised when i found out drink of the day was $4.75. Its not worth going back to room to get another drink. We went shopping in Cozemel and the convience store had everything you would want.
