May 19 - 24, 2014 San Diego to Vancouver

We are hoping to do a last minute cruise out of Port Canaveral in November, if the prices are good. Don't even need to get off the ship (except for Castaway Cay).:rolleyes1

You should come join us. We will be on the 3-day that leaves Nov 14, I think, which is the cheapest sailing that month. I have an 8A Gty booked, which I hope is what we end up with. First time with no verandah, so it should be interesting. I am not even thinking about doing an FE for this sailing, or booking anything in advance, just getting on and going with the flow. The Meets thread for that sailing is very, very, very slow, only a few pages long, which isn't much considering the sailing is only about 7 months away.

Hi Everyone,

I know it is a year out but I'll start a list now.
If you want to participate in the FE I need the following information:

Disboards username
Email Address
Names of passengers
Ages of passengers
Male or Female
Favorite Disney Characters, favorite color etc
Stateroom number
Are alcoholic beverages OK?

Please email this to me at kew423@msn.com
In the subject put FE or Disney Cruise or something similiar so it doesn't get thrown into the trash.

If you don't know what an FE is just search this board. There are lots of great ideas and pictures.
There will be a cut off date but it won't be until April next year.

Thanks!

I put a link to this thread on the first page. :goodvibes

I think I talked some friends into taking this cruise too :). They have 2 girls, one who just turned 2 and the other is 6 days younger than my baby dd :)

Having friends on board makes a cruise that much more fun, not to mention it is great having dinner companions that you know and like. :thumbsup2

Wow! There is already so much activity on this thread! We've just booked and already feel like I'm behind and the cruise is over a year away! ;) We did our first (and only cruise) from Vancouver to LA last September and had such a fantastic time we're doing it again......in reverse! :) I will be joined by my DH (who can't wait for another brunch at Palo) and my DD/DS twins who will be 9 at the time of sailing (and don't know we're planning this!). Looking forward to getting to know you all over these next few months! SO glad for the time to plan my FE gifts! ::yes::

Thank you for taking on the FE list. I'm just curious - why do you need email addresses? FE participation I've done in the past has never required this. It's not a problem, I don't mind sending you my email, I was just curious what you're using them for. Also, I've never known anyone to give alcohol as an FE. Presenting this question almost implies the idea of giving alcohol, but I have friends whose kids go around the ship alone and constantly check their fish extender without their parents present (excited about what they are going to get). If there are little alcohol bottles in the FE and the child comes upon them without their parent, it could make for a bad afternoon. :rotfl2: Anyhow, just my 2 cents on this since I wasn't sure why we were asking about alcohol for an FE. I don't personally think it's a good idea. Also, if you would, please take a look at the "characters of wonder" page on the site link above (the one for our sailing). How do you feel about housing the FE participation info here? In the past it's been great, people could go to the website whenever they wanted. I would have total people participating, total cabins participating, and a "print version" that people could just print for when they go shopping (and to take on the ship). Anyway, let me know what you think. :)

Jessica, on the cruises out of Port Canaveral, it is very common to give mini liquor bottles as an FE gift, especially the Captain Morgan spiced rum. We have received them several times, and personally, I think it is a great idea. I am not a big drinker, a glass of wine now and then, but I do enjoy a drink while on vacation, and I have never heard of there being a problem. But that is why the question is asked, if someone doesn't want liquor in their FE for any reason, don't drink, or kids may get it, then the giver knows to come up with something else.

Anyone wanting to put some Captain Morgan or a little bottle of vodka in my FE, you just go right ahead. I am going to be on that ship another 9 days after sailing up the California coast, and my bar tab could get expensive otherwise :)

Hey everyone - DISboards is STILL not sending me my notices even though I'm subscribed to this thread for immediate notifications! :furious: So now I'm a couple of pages behind in my reading! :( Oh well. With that said, I was bored the other day and decided to start putting together a sample site like what I did for one of the other cruise groups we did. We mainly used it to keep a running tab (with pictures) of all our fellow cruisers, the FE list, and group meet-ups, but I had posted other information as well. The page for our group isn't anywhere near done, but I didn't want to continue if no one wanted to do it. If you guys think this is a good idea and would like to have it completed, please let me know and I will be happy to do-so. If everyone agrees, maybe we can get the link posted on page 1.

Our cruise group page (unfinished): https://sites.google.com/site/wondermay2014/home

Sample of previous cruise group page (finished): https://sites.google.com/site/wonderjan23/home/

Let me know what you think! :thumbsup2

I want to be able to email everyone the list before the cruise with the pertinant information on it. I added the alcohol question because the last cruise I was on people asked if that would be OK to give and some people said yes and some said no. I wanted to ask the question to cover all bases.

OK guys, thanks for the clarification. :)

We've been on the road a lot so I haven't had the chance to check the boards much but I wanted to stop back in and say hi and also welcome to all the new posters who will be joining us! We should have a pretty big group on this cruise and it should be a lot of fun.

We still don't know what we are doing in San Diego, SF, or Vancouver. We probably won't do anything in SD prior to sailing but will probably take our time getting home from Vancouver. I would really like to do an orca watching excursion and maybe check out Vancouver Island. I would also maybe like to check out one of the National Parks in the northwest. Has anyone been to Pacific Rim, Gulf Islands, North Cascades, Olympic, or Mount Rainier?

kew423, thanks again for organizing the FE list. I just emailed you my info.

-steve

Am doing th FE for the next leg of this adventure, so I am joining this FE too. Emailed my info a short time ago.:)

You'll love the cruise :). I've never been on any other one except Disney and don't plan to go on another cruise line.

Definately check out the kids stuff for your son. My DD8 loved it this past March.

How was your cruise in March? Do I remember it was the three night? If so, did you do any excursions in Nassau?

We are doing a 3-night in November. My DH has a meeting in Orlando that is Sun-Wed, so I thought why not hop on the cruise for the remainder of the week. I find the 3-night to be really rushed, but since we have seen the shows so many times, and don't care about the MDRs and can eat when we want at Cabanas, it ought to be a relaxing sailing.

It was great. The water was a bit rough the first night but nothing too bad. The day was perfect at Castaway Cay. Blue skies, mid 70s. We went snorkeling for a couple of hours then had lunch and walked around a bit.

We took a boat ride in Nassau that went around the bay a bit. They showed us big mansions and stuff. It was nice to just ride around for an hour. We walked through the straw market but didn't buy anything. We did buy stamps (cash only) while at the straw market so that we could send post cards from Castaway Cay. The post office on Castaway Cay is run by the Bahamian Government and you never know when they will be there. It says they are open until 4 PM but both times we have been there, that wasn't the case.

So if you don't have postage already you are out of luck. When you get the postage just tell the postmaster that you are going to send postcards to the US and they will give you the correct amount.

Hi
I received three emails regarding being on the FE list. I'm checking my spam folder very carefully so please make sure the subject on your email says "FE list" or "Disney Cruise" or something similar.
I emailed the existing list this morning so if you don't get it please email me your info again.

For those of you who haven't done it before, we did it for the first time this past March and we had a blast. Luckily our teenager knows how to sew so we were able to make nice FEs. I did take it to a local shop to get the names embroidered (it was $5 a name, not too bad). We did go overboard with the gifts, but we had a fabulous time! We wanted to bring something from home to share with everyone so we gave a indv. size of local salsa, small thing of tequila and fun toys for the kids.

We saw all kinds of different types of FEs. Buckets, pencil pouches etc.

Brunch at Palo, dinner at Palo, so much to look forward to, and another FE participant, yay.

Have you been to brunch at Palo before? Will it be offered on this sailing?
I wish the high tea was being offered, but I think that might be on a 7 day or longer cruise.

Yes, we have done brunch a few times and it is only offered on sea days, so we should have three days where brunch is offered. We love both brunch and dinner at Palo, the food options are totally different. For brunch, the chicken parmigiana is just to die for, and this is not one of my favorite dishes. The chilled strawberry soup was amazing and the pizza (which we shared at our table of 4 was delicious. I think I devoured a whole plate of white chocolate dipped strawberries myself.

For dinner, the filet with gorgonzola was superb, although I think I will have them put the gorgonzola on the side for me next time. The lobster ravioli was the best I have ever had, maybe the best thing I have ever eaten in my life (this was on the Dream, but I bet it would be the same on the Wonder). The souffle was everything that everybody says it is and then some.

Service is top notch and your server will do anything to make sure you have a memorable meal. We had the same server for brunch and dinner (different days), her name was Jessika, and she remembered all of our requests from brunch.

I may be wrong but I think that High Tea has been discontinued on all sailings, no matter the length.

Hungry now?
