I found out yesterday someone (my brother) stole my change bank with hundreds of dollars of change in it that we were planing to use for Disney "blow" money and to build a swing set for the kids. I'm beyond words and just want to strangle him.

yikes!

Can you tell him to give it back or you'll be filing a police report?

That's awful! Are you willing to call the police on your brother? Even if you do, the odds of seeing that money again are probably low. :worried:

I'm so sorry that happened to you, to have your own family steal from you must feel like the ultimate betrayal

You need to call the police and report him. If you don't, he will keep doing things like this because he knows he can get away with it. Family or not, if anyone stole from my children, it would be on like Donkey Kong. (Lol...I've been watching Duck Dynasty today :rotfl:)

I have told him I want it back he says it wasn't him but I know better.

Yes I will be filing a report but it's not like I have surveillance or anything to prove it's him. and this wont be the worst thing he's been accused of so im not sure he really cares.
:( so sad

Bummer :(. It's even worse when family steals from you. The lesson learned is that you can't trust him near anything of value.

Then why would you leave so much cash where he could find it? :confused3

Can you ban him from your house? I imagine you wouldn't feel like you could have anything around otherwise anymore... Sorry, it sucks when family takes advantage like that. Such a violation!
I agree it probably won't get you anywhere but I would make the police report anyway... I think it is more about sending a message that you are not going to stand by and be treated like that.

Yeah he has already been banned before this. And I'm sure it was him.

I'm sorry, both for the change bank and for, given the sound of it, the change bank is probably the least of your worries where he's concerned. :worried:

Sounds like my brother - who has been a drug addict for many years. Not sure if it's the same situation and if your brother has a problem or not...But that is usually an indication.

My brother hasn't been in my house for years...I did allow it about 3.5 years ago for our grandmother's 90th birthday party - but with strict instructions that he was never allowed to be alone - He had to have a supervisor at all times.

When you say he was banned - did you lift that ban after time? How did he end up back in the house? Whoever gave him permission needs to know the rule upfront that he is NOT allowed and anyone who 'needs' to bring him along is also not allowed.

I suggest this type of strategy in the future when dealing with yours.

Oh and yes - my brother stole lots of things from us all - my sister's CD collection years ago...My brother's old collections. Anything for cash.

Oh no!!!!

If he was banned from your house, how did he get in?

Is he a drug addict or gambling addict or alcoholic?

Wow, I hope you find a way to prove it was or wasn't him. So he's stolen from you in the past? Or do you just think it was him?

So sorry this happened. I have been in the same boat with my Aunt stealing money from our house. We banned her from the house and changed all the locks. Still didn't make it easier to stomach but without proof it was the only thing we could do.

I'm sorry for you, OP. BTDT with my sister who fought addiction for over 20 years. We had many valuable and sentimental things stolen by her. She's been clean for about six years now but I just prefer not to be around her. Too much damage has been done.

Nice way to blame the victim. Having had much experience with addicts in my family, they will hunt until they find something they think they can sell for drug money. It's a sad situation all around.

OP so sorry that happened :(
