Alaska - Early sailings Tracy Arm

I was on the first sailing last year on the Wonder to Alaska, and we did not make it into Tracy Arm. Does anyone remember the earliest sailing that did make it in?

We are sailing on the Pearl with Glacier Bay next month, and I'd like to take a excursion from Juneau to Tracy Arm, but they're telling me it's hard to predict whether they will make it in that early or have to divert to Endicott Arm, which is where we went with Disney.

Just curious which of Disney's sailings was the first date to make it in.

We were on the Inaugural Alaskan...so it was the very earliest part of May and we were able to make it in. Sorry you missed it...it is amazing. Gives you a reason to go back! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip!

My friend cruised DCL in July 2011 and missed Tracy Arm. So I think it just depends on the weather. Good luck.

That's interesting. I thought later in the season they always made it in. I wonder what would prevent them in July? I thought it was just the ice earlier in the season.

Sometimes the ice lasts a long time. Depends on the weather, and how much is breaking off the glaciers.

We went to Endicott Arm on the 7/26/11 cruise due to heavy fog and poor visibility in Tracy Arm. From posts here the cruise two weeks earlier did also.

We had to go into the Endicott Arm in August of 2010 as well. Based on what I had seen in pictures of the Sawyer Glaciers in the Tracy Arm, I thought we saw more and got closer to the Dawes Glacier in Endicott than we would have to the Sawyer in Tracy Arm anyway. To the OP, if you are going to Glacier Bay, I wouldn't waste time on the Tracy Arm. What you will see in Glacier Bay is 10 times more than what you would see in the either the Tracy Arm or the Endicott Arm.

We sailed the first week of June 2011 and did go to Tracy Arm. We had spectacular visibility (it was freezing!), but could not go all the way up - this was as far as we went.....

The captain said that one reason we had to stop was the number of mama and baby seals on the ice....
