Thoughts on Coronado Springs Resort - from a newbie.

We just stayed at CSR for two nights before we moved over to AKL for 8 nights. We had never stayed at CSR and I have to admit, after reading reviews on here I was a little nervous. I am happy to report that it was great! So I wanted to post my thoughts on it for others who might be feeling a little nervous.

First I will say that we are DVC members so we usually stay at those reosrts. I have high standards for hotels and I have to admit, I expect a lot out of them, espeically at Disney.

Check in went great. There were no issues and it took maybe 5 minutes. The front desk staff was great.

The room itself was also very nice. I really liked the decor and we both thought the bed was really comfortable. We had a king size room in Casitas building 4 and I thought it was a great location. The room was clean and well stocked with enough towels and a mini-fridge. My only issue with the room was the bathroom. When we walked into the room it smelled like bleach, pretty stongly. I thought it was because they did a really good job cleaning, but what I came to realize was that they were trying to mask the musty odor of the bathroom, or try and get rid of it. Over the course of our two days there - the musty smell was bad. I could not figure out where it was coming from thought. The shower curtain did not look like it had any mildew on it, nor did anything else. But the smell was pretty bad.

Peppermarket. We ate there twice. Once we had nachos and they were pretty bad. I have to say that I am not a huge mexican food person so maybe to someone who loves the food, they might have been better. But both my DH and I had them and we both paid for them for about 24 hours, if you know what I mean. The second time we ate there I had the pasta bar selecting alfredo sauce with my penne pasta. I thought it was extremely good and would have gotten it again had we been staying longer. My huband had some chicken meal and he said that it was good also. I thought the set-up of the place was different and the way you ordered your food was a little strange - but it worked and was fine.

We also stopped at the little food place (I think called Cafe Rix) and they had a great selection of foods there to grab and go. We had the cookies, ham sandwich and salad, all which were good. The only thing that was not good was the red velvet cake. It was WAY to sweet.

The size of the place was what worried me the most when deciding to stay there. I have to say - I do not understand how people think this place is so mamouth. Is it large? Sure. But the way it has been descried by some here, it made it sound as if you needed a car to get around! We took several walks around the whole lake and it did not take long at all. The Ranchos, which is the area furthest from everything, was not that far from anything. Maybe I am used to walking at WDW so it does not phase me in the least, but if you have stayed at somewhere like Saratoga Springs or even Boardwalk and Animal Kingdom villas, you can handle staying at CSR. The walk is no different than those places to the main areas.

I think that is really it. I did not stay long and I would probably stay again if I were going to stay in a non-DVC place. I liked the variety of food choices and I thought the place was really pretty.

Did you have any issues with the motion sensors on the air conditioning cutting your a/c off at night while you were sleeping? I have read many reports of the motion sensors on the a/c units cutting the unit off when nobody is moving around at night.

Ever stayed at POR? Curious on a comparison to POR... we love POR but are trying CSR for the first time this November

Good to hear about casitas 4. That is the building we are requesting. Also booked a king. What floor were you on? Did you use the pools?

Thanks for your review! I think the size of CSR is overstated, too. We have had longer walks at Beach Club and Boardwalk. Glad you enjoyed your stay. :goodvibes

You can bypass the motion sensor at CSR by pressing the power button and the down arrow at the same time. The display will read "bp". You may have to do this every 24 hours.

We did not notice any of those issues. It was really warm the first day and we set the air temp low and left for several hours. It was nice and cold when we got in the room.

We have not stayed at POR, sorry I can't be any help there.

We were on the 2nd floor 2nd room from the end right near the staircase. I did not pay for a waterview, but got a nice partial one.

We did not use the pools but walked by both the quiet pool and the main pool. Both looked really nice and the quiet pool was really empty.
