SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Information & Questions

How long has it been since you've been there? We wanted the same area we were in in Dec 2010 and they still had a record of the room number. Can't hurt to ask.

This thought had crossed my mind but for some reason I didn't think they would have it. We were just there last summer so I will call and ask if we can have the same room...cool! Thanks!

That is the Magnolia Wing. Lobby level :)

Thank you! I will write this down so I always know the section I like!

Are the new rooms better than the old ones? I ask because we are planning on requesting rooms near the parking garage since we will have a rental, and be using it a lot. Is it possible to request a room? Can you check in early like a Disney hotel, or is everything figured out when you walk up to the counter like a traditional hotel?

My question is we leave for our FIRST stay at SOG in 11 days! I want to request a room but I am unsure do we wait until we get there or do we fax ahead of time?! I am wanting something fairly close to the bus stop as we will have a 2 year old that we will more than likely be packing back at night..lol!
Also, we will be using the buses to get back and forth to the parks all the time ( we will not have a car). Is the schedule pretty on time to when they say the come back. Also, are we supposed to tip everyday when we get on & off?

You can request a room but it's not a guarantee. They will get you pretty close. You can check in early. If your room isn't ready you can leave your bags with the bell station.

If you mean old=Magnolia Wing vs new=Palm wing (parking garage), the Magnolia wing underwent a complete renovation so those rooms are probably nicer although I think the Palm wing is wonder.

Closest rooms to the bus stop are IMO the Palm wing room rooms in the first hall. 2101 - 2106 or equal on any of the 5 floors.
And yes the buses run on schedule. Keep in mind if you want to leave the parks at different times than the SOG bus you can catch a bus to the TTC from both HS and AK and they drop off very close to the SOG bus. Or any Poly bus and walk. No tipping required. :)

Thank you so much!! Good to know. We plan to take mid-day breaks so we may use the Poly buses if its an off time!! :cool1:

I'm interested to know if anyone has been recently to SOG have they noticed how the renovations are going? From what I understand the Aafes is under construction (not sure if that's done already or when it's expected to be done). Also has the quite pool construction started yet (it was supposed to start on the first of April just wondering if that was started on schedule) and if its loud/bothersome to guest.

Still in the triple digits, but at least we are in the 140s now. :thumbsup2
Since we usually go the second week of May, but can't this year, May is going to be a rough month for me. :scared: I just have to keep reminding myself ... at least we are able to go in September. MUCH better than not going at all. :cool1:

Can't wait! :cheer2:
Can't wait!
Can't wait! :woohoo:
Can't wait! :dance3:
Can't wait! :yay:

:dancer:party::jumping1:

By the way, anyone here been in mid September? What is the weather and crowd level like? I am hoping for moderate weather and low crowds. :rolleyes1

I will be there in 9 days if you don't find an answer before then I will find out!

Has anyone eaten dinner at SOG recently? I have not stayed there in awhile and I am wondering if the dinner in Garden Gallery is still "themed" or just a regular buffet each evening. Thnaks so much.

JUSERO, We we're there the last week in Sept 2011. The temps were in the low 90's high 80's everyday. Rained a couple days mid afternoon. The crowds were great though!

We always go in September, and it's HOT, HOT, HOT! But, the crowd levels are pretty good (although busier than it used to be). Hit the parks early, take that afternoon break when it's busiest/warmest, and drink PLENTY of fluids. My DH insists on drinking even when you're not thirsty, and I have to admit that really does help. I also pack travel-size baby wipes which feel nice and cool for a quick wipe down as well as a travel-size deodorant body spray for a refreshing spritz.

Thanks for the tips. The same has happened with the crowds in May too. It use to be very low crowds, but is now getting busier. I guess our secrets are out. And I agree with your DH ... drink, drink, drink!

Just a heads up for those going in February that Shades is having a great deal on rooms. They are $ 97.00 per night from Feb 1st- Feb 13th and then from the 17th through the 28th. :cool1: You do need to call them for the rate to be added to your reservation. We have done Shades during Easter break for the past 5 years so we have never been able to get a room discount and sometimes the salute tickets are blacked out when we are there, so I am beyond thrilled that my sons school has a winter recess in February. :thumbsup2

Can I just say how sad I was that we were not there this past Spring Break. (We are going to California/Disneyland this August instead to see my family/friends.) I for one love all of the planning at WDW and love the serenity of Shades. I am actually more excited about being there in February than going to DL in August. (Plus we have a Disney Dream cruise booked after our Shades stay in February.)

For those that have been in February, How is the weather? We will be in the middle of winter here in NY so I suppose anything is an improvement over the snow. Thanks.

We always go the first week of February and have a great time. It was in the 50s - 60s during the day nice enough for shorts and then just need a light jacket or jumper for early morning and evenings. Best part is how low the crowds are the only ride we had problems with was Toy story Mania and Tomorrowland speedway. But even then highest wait was an hour so nothing too horrendous.

Thanks for the info will tell my mum to call about the discount.
