Kids in club level lounge?

Y'all are so helpful!! Thank you!! They are good girls and know how to behave in such places, thankfully. They are each other's best friend and keep a close eye on each other. I feel like I am in a new parenting frontier. I know that they need more opportunities to be independent, but it can be hard to let go

I believe the age for children to enter the lounge unaccompanied is 10.

This is correct. At least for BC. It was written on the info paper we received at check in.

And I wouldn't let young children go alone to another floor in a resort full of strangers. This world we live in is too crazy.

I thought anyone under 14 years old needs someone 14 or older to accompany them. I would be concerned for their safety to if they were unsupervised.

I believe that this is the age required for children to enter the parks if they aren't with an adult.

I would contact the Planning Office of the resort to get the answer. There is misinformation being posted in this thread.

I agree. It doesn't matter what the rule is. Young children and tweens should not be walking around a resort hotel alone.

we were just at AK club level. Our room was on the 6th floor... it was a short walk down the hall. I let my son go get a drink etc. he is 9 (almost 10)

You need a special room key to have access to the 6th floor.

I kept my greeting letter and this is what it states:
"While enjoying the Lounge, we request that all Guests under the age of ten years of age be accompanied by an adult Guest".

But again I wouldn't let my children go alone and my youngest is 11.

I have no problem with kids walking around alone. My problem is when they create havoc and discomfort for others- yelling and screaming in the halls, knocking on doors late at night, throwing footballs at you in the pool, pushing all the elevator buttons for fun. I can also picture them digging their hands into the snacks in the club lounge, and opening sodas and just leaving the cans wherever.

But again, there's a big difference between a kid walking around and an ignorant child whose parents haven't taught them manners and consideration. I have found that even with their parents, ignorant children will cause problems while their equally ignorant parents smile and watch. The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree

When my youngest DD was 10 we let her go to the lounge with her older sister without us. I think it depends on your kids' maturity level.

Each parent has to decide what they feel comfortable with re their children but just because we're in Disney and club level floors/buildings/lounges are keyed access doesn't mean to say one's fellow guests who also have their 'golden key' are 'trustworthy'.

The poster was giving her opinion also on the subject

I respectifully disagree. More than just an opinon. Seems to me than the poster is insinuating that anyone who is wrong who lets their kids go without them.

Since we are giving opinions I would totally say yes. Too many helicopter parents IMHO. It's a scary world, but you still have to let them grow up. I can't think of a better place to give them a little independence then a Disney resort.

I wonder if the parks are safer? Anybody can go to a resort, but not everybody can get into the parks. I do think the CL's are the safest of all, since you need special access and there are usually CM's nearby.

maybe I'm just out of touch, but I'd feel safer at a resort, especially one like AKL, than allowing younger children to wander alone in the parks.:confused3
JMO, but I wouldn't have a problem with children the Op's age going to the lounge unaccompanied by an adult as long as they were well behaved.

We let our boys in the lounge alone in August when they were 10. We did however walk them around the lounge when we first arrived pointing out the tongs to use for all the food... One drink at a time... Only take what you know you will eat.... Most of the time one of us would pop in unannounced just to make sure.
With that said, my biggest complaint was towards some adults... Shirtless, barefoot, loud... Quite surprised the staff allowed this. The letter we received upon arrival clearly stated that kids under 10 needed an adult, shirts and shoes required... So you never know what you will come across.

You're giving your Opinion also by saying it is okay to let young children wonder a building full of strangers. Everyone has a right to think differently.

:thumbsup2 Absolutely, age doesn't =maturity or courteous behavior.
