Getting in a day early, booking one night at AKL before we head to Beach Club. Will not use park tickets, want to stay and enjoy resort. Arriving Dec 21st.

Anything special that we need to do? Meals, activities, etc.

Can we use the pool & kids slash "camp" near the DVC villas if we are staying in the main lodge?

Any particular rooms or area I should request?

We loved that resort! Jiko was my favorite place to eat at WDW! It was wonderful! DO not know how old your kids are, but mine were 9 and 13 and they loved it, but they are also foodies! The pool is nice and a walk around just to see the animals is so much fun!

I would book a Savannah view room!! They are amazing! You can sit on your balcony and watch the animals!!

For one night, I would also book a savannah view also. We did this once, just spent one night there and enjoyed the resort. We went to the story telling at the fire pit and the night viewing of the animals. We ate at Jiko and enjoyed that and had breakfast at Boma (our favorite). It was a very enjoyable day before changing resorts and heading to the parks.

Thank you all, I wasn't sure if I should pay the extra money for a savanah view, I think I will now. And i didn't know about a story time, my kids would love it! (4 & 3 yr old)

We've booked 2 nights here in August & we're hoping to book a meal somewhere as well. I will watch the replies with interest. I've rented DVC points for the stay & now I'm looking for more points to rent so we can stay at SSR for a few night xx

So much for the kids & you guys to do. There should be a list of times at the front desk & on your tv in your room. animal Tracking, music, cookie decorating, night vision goggles & more

I'm on the other side of the fence. I wouldn't and didn't book a Savannah view. Especially if your going to be there 1 day. I hope you are not going to be in your room all day. If so then book savannah. But honestly you'll be out n about exploring both pool areas using the extra curricular activities in the lobby and out on the trails. Also they have kids games n stuff out by the pools. Jiko is a lil pricey but very nice. I'd recommend either Sana'a or Boma. Both are. Very good but very different. Bomas is probably 1 of the best buffets in all WDW , while Sana'a is just an experience that you won't get anywhere else. Enjoy. And beforewarned You may not want to leave this place. You may find yourself back here on your next trip..LoL.

Since your kids are smaller, check when you get there for the time they do activities with kids. I believe it was around noon when they had kids doing animal rubbings with crayons on the floor at the entrance. It was so cool. I went over to check them out and they gave us "extra" rubbings they had done.

My DD3 adored the little kids parade around te lobby they do about 8pm. It was adorable and would be great for your kids! So much to do and see, you'll love it!

Wow there is a lot more going on than I realized... Night vision goggles- cool!- and all the activities for the kids! Makes the $600/night a little easier to swallow. :)

In that pic, the kids had their papers right on the textured floor? Or a stencil of sort? That's really neat.

Yes. When you enter the lodge, there's a huge brass(?) circle with animals imprinted in the brass. Then you put your paper over the chosen animal and rub over it with your crayon. Very cool.

Do you think that crayon rubbing is for guests only?
We have a morning planned to go and check out AKL and then have lunch there. WOuld my kids be able to join in? Or only if we have a room there?

Other than swimming in the pool all og the resort activities are open to anyone.

And to b honest with u , even swimming isnt really an issue for non guests. Its no where near like SAB where they check bracelets. They just assume everyone at either of the 2 pools here are guests.

I agree. Unless you plan to sit on the balcony A LOT, I wouldn't. You can see animals from other areas near the pool and off the lobby. I don't think its worth the extra money unless you are bed bound :thumbsup2

We are a pretty active family--- but I do love my alone "coffee" time on the balcony before the kids wake up--- I have to decide if I'm up to a really expensive coffee with a view (this is the only time I'd be spending time in my room, from about 5-7am)
