Wishes in Catsablanca: 7.22.13 Epcot Wedding PJ&TR! Updated 03/09/15

Insane prices on the garden roses! But I guess that is what I have grown to expect with Disney. I am considering going the silk flower route after hearing all these crazy flower prices! Your inspiration photos are beautiful though, I hope it looks just as beautiful in person, with whatever you decide to do :)
The photography change is crazy...I think lots of other brides are scrambling to get outside photographers now.
Tell me about it! The prices are pretty steep, but it seems to be the case for all the prices across the board. :confused3 Oh well, what can you do! I think silk are a really nice alternative though, and you get to keep them forever too! I would have considered silk as well, but my mom has a two wedding pet peeves: fake flowers and destination weddings. And since I'm doing the destination wedding. . . . ::yes::

The popular outside photographers must be getting bombarded! This new change must surely be great for business!

For the latest big checkmark on the to-do list, I went with DF and his BM to look at tuxedos. This was my first time going with them, but they had already been out to see another store previously. The first store sounded kind of like a nightmare, but for some reason DF had actually still been planning to get their suits there, but only didn't because of small a technicality. So, I think we (I) may have dodged a bullet. The reason they didn't order right of the bat was because the only white jacket they offered had a satin ribbon along the edge of the lapel. As soon as I saw it I hated it, so phew! On top of that, the consultant was described by both DF and the BM with the following descriptors: rude, pushy, condescending and basically encouraging them to leave. She didn't tell them what they would get with a rental, so when I asked DF if it included pants, bowtie or cummerbund/vest, he had no idea and they hadn't thought to ask. Again, phew!

This new place we went to was a marked improvement, by their estimation. The store was about 15 times larger (I can't even imagine how tiny this first place was), because this place was by no means a warehouse. And there quite a few other bridal parties there, so they obviously do good business. Good signs!

A consultant helped us and while DF made the appointment and started the conversation, they were quickly all looking to me for the answers. I had answers for the consultant that DF didn't even realize were questions (pleated or not pleated shirt? tuxedo collar or dress collar? shawl, notch or peak?). No one can say I don't have a crystal clear image of how I want this to look! :rotfl: And again, I ask what DF was thinking going to that first appointment without me!

The reason we chose the first place was by a recommendation from our DJ. He had told us the owner was a great and very accommodating and could probably help us out with the multiple rentals we need (one long one for Disney and then another for our at-home reception in September). When they got to the store the owner wasn't even there, even though DF specifically asked to discuss these matters when he made the appointment over the phone.

The second place we chose because when we went back to the drawing board, i.e. Google, it was the only local place we found that had a double breasted white jacket! Exactly like Casablanca! Yes, yes, yes!

Doublebreastedwhitejacket_zps6e121c39.jpg

Unfortunately, we got the bad news pretty quickly into the appointment. The double-breasted comes in white but only stark white and my dress is ivory. She held up a white jacket beside the ivory jacket and it was pretty obvious that it would just not look good with us side by side in ivory and white. That, and the stark white was already a non-starter for me, she just beat me to it when she asked what colour my dress was.

While she was taking DF's measurements she asked if there was a reason why I wanted the white so adamantly. I said, "well it's a Casablanca theme," and she went "Ohhh, okay. Well don't you think Humphrey Bogart was wearing ivory anyway? I know it's black and white, but..." And I said "Yes, I definitely think so." Nevertheless she spent the entire appointment apologizing about the white-only double-breasted and convincing me that no one would know that the jacket wasn't exactly the same as the one from the movie. Or that I could still do the white double-breasted but it may be a risk with the ivory dress. Yadda, yadda, yadda and so on and so forth and on and on and on and on! I felt like she was trying to in earnest to keep me from having a bridezilla moment or something? I kept agreeing, "Yep, no one will notice." And she kept reassuring me "Don't worry no one will notice. No one will know but you." And I wanted to be like, "I KNOOOOOOW! I LIKE THE IVORY! THE SINGLE-BREASTED IS FINE AND AWESOME!" Or something like that..

(I asked DF if the suit from the first place was white or ivory. He didn't know.)

Well, you know, DF tried on the double-breasted in black anyway and it looked extremely sharp. It was a perfectly shaped double-breasted jacket for him, much slimmer than the usual cut or something, it looked really good! So I wish they hadn't tried that on, because I'd already ruled it out on account of the white/ivory situation. Maybe the consultant is used to be people being more indecisive or something. Then DF did the ivory jacket with the black bowtie and the dress shirt [dickie] and it was like, Yes, wrap it up, I'm done! (But, to really illustrate my point, there were still at least four or five more reassurances from the consultant - and then also the BM, who I think misinterpreted the consultant's excessive earnestness as me appearing to be inconsolable - that no one would in fact notice it wasn't a double-breasted like the movie).

The last part of the appointment was the weirdest part. Vest or cummerbund? DF hates vests. So it was never an option, but his BM prefers a vest. I've never worn a suit, so I can't account for the comfort of either, although I think a vest would be a mistake considering the wedding will be outside in Florida in July. So, the consultant was ready to ring us up when DF said cummerbund for himself and vest for BM. And the consultant went, "Oh you want a vest? What colour?"

Me: "Ivory."

She went and got a couple and brought them back. They looked very thick with all kinds of pearly designs and stuff, when I was thinking I want a vest that looks indistinguishable from the jacket, so as to not distract from that. She looks up.

Consultant: "Wait, who's the groom?" We all point to DF. She must have known all along it was him, because the appointment was under DF's name and the BM didn't really say anything the whole time.

Consultant: "If I went to your wedding and you [the BM] were wearing the vest, I'd think you were the groom."

Me: Blank look.

Anyway really? I don't think at our 40 guest wedding, where probably only one person hasn't met DF (yet), there would be any risk of someone confusing the BM and Groom based on who had the vest. Seriously, is this a thing? Whatever. Just to end the consultant's stupefaction the BM agreed to do a cummerbund. It's probably for the best in the long run.

So instead of channeling a perfect Rick ala Casablanca (Humphrey Bogart), DF and BM will be pulling a William Holden ala Sabrina, which just so happens to be my favourite movie of all time. In conclusion, I am not complaining!

williamholden-sabrina_zps79aed6b8.jpg

I think that about wraps up the weirdest appointment I've yet had for this wedding. Anyway she gave us a deal on both rentals and she did DF's second rental for September at 50% off. Not too shabby! But weird. I'm glad I was there. Phew, double phew! ;)

Hair and Make-Up

My veil arrived and I love it! I just need some soft tulle to make a veil. I took a bunch of photos of it on as soon as it came in (I was having such a great hair day). And then I accidentally deleted them before I saved them on my computer. Next great hair day I'll take new photos. :rotfl2:

And now that I have all my hair and make-up appointments more or less set (except for the wedding day start-time. I emailed Beaute last week about that and they still haven't got back to me :confused3) and I have my headpiece set, I've finally made a more focused collection of hair and make-up inspiration photos.

I haven't really thought too much about my MOHs yet or talked to them about what I want. I suppose I get to decide since I'm paying. I proposed this kind of idea of hair to one of my MOHs and she seemed in to it, so I'm keeping this one in my back pocket as a possibility.

Or something like this could also work:

MOH make-up on the other hand... while I think their looks should compliment mine, I don't think I want them to have the same look. So, I'm still looking for ideas there.

Just got word we've surpassed our room block minimum! And there are at least two families I know of that haven't book yet!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Yay! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Yay for surpassing your room block minimum! That's awesome news!

Can't wait to see pics of your headpiece/veil! I love the second hairstyle, very striking....I think I may have pinned that one on Pinterest. My favorite of the makeup is the second one as well....fairly subtle, and I think both are a really good modern interpretation of a beautiful 40s look. The makeup will greatly depend on whether you are wanting the focus to be your eyes or your lips. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these. I love 40s hair and makeup.

Love the first one for the bridesmaids. Again, a beautiful interpretation of a 40s hairstyle. I know I pinned the second bridesmaid hair inspiration. It seems a little too modern against the others, but it's still lovely.

I read your entire PJ in the past two days! I love your wedding style and I've really enjoyed your writing about it.

I have to say, your invitation books are amazing and the fact that you both designed them yourselves is incredible.

Also, I think my jaw actually dropped when I saw that headpiece. I am so glad you splurged on that. I can't wait to see what it looks like on you. And with the dress!

It's nice that you sprung for the Lily of the Valley too, it's one of my favorites :)

Looking forward to the next update!

P.S. I was at WDW the week before you in March and the weather was amazing, wasn't it?! It was even colder the week before. We were so lucky!

I agree with Charliegirl... the 2nd hair pic is striking! Congrats on the room block!!! :cool1:

Love the second up-do, it would be so romantic. And I LOVEEEEEE the film Sabrina! ah, just gives me chills. Would definitely be fun to channel such an iconic style for the big day :) speaking of which, congrats on getting below the triple digits! How exciting!!!! So you are hoping to go with Beaute for the wedding? I hope they get back to you sometime soon!
Silly question because I'm not that far yet- does your WP email you the details of your guests' reservations so you can keep track and check on the room block? I feel like I would compulsively check it every half hour until I make it over the magic number! :rotfl:

:goodvibes I love the second one too, I've been getting a lot of a positive responses on that one from pretty much everyone I've shown! I'm so glad to know that the whole '40s inspiration is showing through too!

Thank you so much for your compliements! (And major applause for making it through the whole PJ! It's quite the novel!) :goodvibes

The weather was so lovely! I had heard it was so cold too just prior to the visit so it was very nice to have such luck! Glad to hear it was beautiful for you too!

Yay for another Sabrina film fan! (It's another reason why we've chosen "Isn't it Romantic" for our first dance. :lovestruc)

Yep, we're going with Beaute. I've actually booked them for the wedding day, but I didn't yet have the info from Disney about when the photographers would be arriving or when the limo would be picking us up. So my email was more of an informational update and request for when we should start the day.

Not a silly question about the reservations at all! Once everything is all set you will be assigned a "room block coordinator" who will send you a very detailed report of everyone who's booked (it includes names, hotels and res numbers). They send the report at 6 months, 4 months, 2 months, 1 month and 2 weeks. Although, just the other day we asked for an update in between reports to see if we needed to lower our blocked rooms and he sent over the full report with the good news that we'd already made it!

I caught on your PJ after falling waaay behind and I just lovelovelove your taste! All of your hair and make up inspiration is spot on for your theme, youre doing such a great job.

I am wanting garden roses too but not just for bouqets, but for centerpieces too and pretty much everything so hopefully a box will work fine. I'm glad you wanted them too and thanks for sharing the info!

Thank you so much!

I'm happy the garden rose info could help! I think if I had needed the garden roses for more than just my bouquet, and used the box for centerpieces or arrangements, the price of the box could have made more sense for us. Hopefully it will work for you, because they are such a beautiful flower!

Sorry a little late, but I also love the second option. Your tux shopping experience was interesting. But, Yay for Sabrina! Huge Audrey Hepburn fan here...whenever I'm home sick I always watch Sabrina or Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I love the retro vibe of your wedding. It's shaping up to have such a classic, old Hollywood style. I'm so excited to see how it turns out :)

Yay, more Sabrina fans! I adore Audrey Hepburn too! I've met so many people who have never even heard of Sabrina, it great to have so many who know and love it here!

Rehearsal Wear:

I picked up a couple dresses from Old Navy to use at the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. They pretty simple cotton dresses which I think fits my requirements: white and comfortable enough to wear at Magic Kingdom and on rides. One is very white and one is off-white. I think I'll probably wear the off-white one on Rehearsal day and the white one the next day for the meet & greet/welcome party. (I will get back to this later!)

Off-White:

Headpiece:

Finally got a couple new photos of the headpiece! It came wrapped up very well in a cute box, with a card addressed to me with a photo of a vintage couple on their wedding day! So cute!

And here it is! I still need to get some tulle for the veil.

And to end, I found a couple more ideas for the bridesmaids.

Make-up: (Feels like a nice vintage look, which is reminds me of a more subtle version of the look I want for myself)

What do you guys think, does seem like it could fit with the overall look?
