Have you surprised a loved one with a trip to WDW? If so, where did you stay and how did it go? How old were the surprisees? Did you plan any special activities? I thought this would be fun to reflect on. We took our son on a surprise visit when he was 10 and stayed at WL. We finished the trip with a 4 day Disney cruise.

In 2009 we surprised kids and stayed ASMu in 2011 we surprised step son and did one night Hilton DTD and 2 nights in Pirate Room at CBR in 2012 we surprised DD and step son and stayed 3 night GF CL..

I think no matter where you stay when its a surprise it will be amazing

The only surprise trip we ever did was a Christmas trip where we stayed at YC for six nights.
Our kids (9 and 11) informed us during that trip that we were never to surprise them again. They were not happy to be surprised at all and didn't want to be at WDW for Christmas. They didn't like that Santa visited at home and they had to wait for their gifts until our return. (We were leaving on Dec 26).

I added on 2 days at GF before our YC stay to surprise my adult daughter. She thinks we are staying at POFQ those 2 days. Last August I tried to surprise her with GF Tea, but she got the stomach flu and couldn't come.

Our surprise wasn't a huge success just because DS did not like doing something with no advance warning. No joke, he said, "but I was watching Sponge Bob." Lol! His jaw dropped when he saw the white limo pull up to take us to the airport.

A few years ago, I surprised my daughter and 3 of her friends. We had been at CSR with a group and on the day some of them flew home, I told my daughter and he friends that we were going to the GF for 1900 Park Fare. When we arrived, a CM asked if we wanted a tour of RPC. We said yes and they escorted us to our room. The girls were thrilled. An added surprise were Dooney and Burke wristlets for each of them.

I surprised my Mom on Mothers day for a girls trip to F & W festival after my dad passed away. It was awesome! And because I called everyday I managed to get us a 1 bedroom at the boardwalk...it was a total splurge of points but worth every second.

We were planning a December trip for the kids when they were 5 and 12. They were in on all the planning and helped picked activities and restaurants etc. What they didn't know was that we were actually going much sooner (August). About 3 days before the trip we told them at dinner and it could not have gone better. Seriously. I wish I had filmed it because it could have been a commercial. They were speechless at first.. literally with their mouths hanging open, then jumping and screaming and hugging. My youngest started to cry because he was so happy and decided he needed to put himself in his room to calm down:rotfl2:

3 days before was perfect so they had a few days to adjust, and we had been on one trip so they knew what to expect and were very excited. It was wonderful.

Now we are planning a Christmas trip (the week before) and surprising them again. They have been 8 times at this point and never want to go anywhere else. I don't expect as much of a reaction as the last time we surprised them but they will still be thrilled.
Every year when we decorate the tree I bring out a small box for each of them to open with a new ornament for the year. This years ornament will be a glass Mickey ear ornament. On it, it will say "XXX's Surprise Christmas Trip!! with the dates of the trip. Again we will do this about a week beforehand, this will give them a week to adjust and tell their friends etc.
I'll have the ornaments made on our summer trip at the Christmas store in downtown Disney. That trip is mostly an offsite trip.
They aren't expecting it and I know they'll love it.

Geez.. I forgot to answer the question! The first surprise trip we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. This Christmas we are staying at Wilderness Lodge.
