Worried about cabin selection...

Booked cabin 6144 for our Alaskan cruise. I am aware there is a solid metal verandah (6A). Just wondering if this is a mistake. Will we be able to enjoy the beauty of Alaska with this type of cabin? We have to be concerned with a room across the hall as well (which we now have).

Is there anyway besides doing a mock booking to see which cabins are available. A lot of questions I know. Sorry.....

No, AFAIK, you need to do a mock booking to find out that information.

We cruised Alaska in an Oceanview room. As most of our viewing was done on deck (that way we could cross from side to side, or fore to aft, to see everything), we really didn't feel the need to have a verandah.

Well, if you have young kids, that could be a problem as they could not see as their point of view will be below the railing.

You could try to upgrade now via DCL or your TA, or at port.

We will be fine with the children issue... Son is 5'9 and just turned 15 daughter will almost be 11 and is quite tall as well... We are paying so much for this cruise and I just want to make sure hubby will be happy... I checked the room reports already and they were just ok... I really hate to bother my TA again.. Wish there was a site to see all available room... Wishful thinking on my part...

I wouldn't worry about "bothering" the TA, that's their job. To help you with your travels.

We have had a solid wall veranda twice and a see thru one once. The downside of the solid wall is that you really can't see when sitting on your veranda. Standing is not a problem, of course. You also can't see very well from inside your cabin, like if you wanted to see the scenery while sitting on your sofa. Since it is Alaska and you are never very far from shore, you will probably be able to see something, just not as well. Is it terrible? No, but it is such a better view with the see thru balconies. Alaska would be alot of on deck viewing, because you have to make sure you don't miss a thing. You will just have to decide if the cost difference is worth it to you.

Don''t upgrade.........down grade to a secret cat 7a verandah stateroom.....one is 5 door down from 6144.....it's room 6134....it has a glass railing so you may see everything while sitting on your verandah.There is one on the starboard side also, rm 6634, and on the 7th deck, rm 7620 and 7120.......I think this way you may see more and save a little "jingle" also. ...Let us know how it turns out.

We did Alaska with a inside room and when I booked our next cruise in Alaska I booked an inside room again. I did not even consider a ocean view or veranda. When there were things to see I wanted to be on the top deck so I can see both sides of the ship quickly. When it was time to sleep I wanted it dark with no sunlight.

You are going to enjoy the beauty of Alaska unless you chose not to. Enjoy.

We did Alaska in an oceanview. We spent most of our time on Deck 4 and loved it!!
