Postponing trip, how is late September?

We're having to push our trip out due to various conflicts, so I find myself planning for September. I've never been during that time, what is different? We've usually gone in the summer, also twice during spring break and once at New Years.

I'm a little worried about the weather during that time.

What is special in September? I'm shooting for 9/24 right now.

What is special is the lack of other visitors! My daughter works attractions and every year when she talks to me that week I wish I was there. Many of the headliners have FPs late into the day, short lines the rest of the time.

My last two trips have both been in late September, in 2009, and 2012. Both times it was pretty hot -- hotter than I expected. In '09 the employees were saying that it was unseasonably warm when we were there. It was definitely hot in '12, too. That might also be because I live in the Seattle area and summers are really mild. In other words, I'm a wimp. In the end it wasn't a huge deal, we just had to make sure to bring enough water to the parks so that we'd keep hydrated. We had one evening in '09 where it poured down rain and one afternoon in '12 where it poured. Otherwise there was hardly any rain at all. Just bring a lightweight waterproof jacket and you're good.

In '09 I remember the crowds being really low, but it seemed like this past September that it was more busy than it had been in the past. I came away from it thinking that because of free dining more people were electing to save $ and go at a time that used to be completely dead. That said, it's all a matter of degree. Compare it to most other times of the year and it is pretty dead. It's just not as much of a complete ghost town as it used to be.

September is a great time, the parks are decorated for fall with Mickey shaped pumpkins. You can get ticket for mickeys not so scary Halloween. It usually starts around the second week in September. It has a special parade.

Check it out! My goal this year was to travel in September but a travel agency had an awesome deal so we moved our trip up to the last week in August

September & October are great months to go ::yes:: (we've gone these months for the last 15 years) The weather is great, less people, though this has charged over the years as the wine & food festival has become more popular. We've actually experienced more rain (thunderstorms) & humidity in the summer months, than September & October. Enjoy pixiedust:

I think it is a great time to go. Both of my late September experiences in Orlando have been good, and I was there for work Sept-Nov in 2004 through 2 hurricanes (Charley had already hit.) I found that it was not as hot, in general, and I did not experience the rain that is supposed to occur that time of year. For our 2010 trip we had one truly hot day and a little drizzle on one day for a 7 day trip.

That time of year is supposed to be hurricane and rainy season. The peak of hurricane season is late Aug. to early Sept., so you're past the peak, too.

As PP have said, the big bonus is low crowds.

We usually go in September and LOVE it! It's a great time to be there. We don't find the weather as hot as some describe it to be. Crowds are low. We can't bring ourselves to go any other time.

We love late September/early October :). In our experience, the weather was still hot and great for swimming and going to the water parks, but it wasn't unbearable for walking around the parks. That is our favorite time of year to go weather-wise. There's also MNSSHP, which is great. We've gone to the party 3 times and loved it every time :goodvibes.

Late September is gorgeous. It tends to be a little less hot and humid. The crowds are smaller, too. You can get tickets to MNSSHP. If you go really late in September, Epcot Food and Wine Festival 2013 starts 9/27;

We have been in Early June and late September and we like Sept. the best..not quite as hot and seems less humid. Still kind so crowded though as we were there the last week of free dining..although we were not participating

I'd love to tell you that it's a horrible time to go because I'd like to keep it a little secret, but honestly, it's my favorite time of year to be there. I've been in WDW around Spetember 20-30th every year since 2005.

Here's why:
crowds are usually light (they get heavier in Epcot when food and wine opens)
It's hot and I love the heat! We are able to swim anytime - day or night.
Fall decor is up in MK and MNSSHP is running.
It's often been free dining (not sure if that's happening this year, but we have a bounce back trip booked, so we still have it!)

The only downside is that the parks will close pretty early. Epcot usually by 9 or 10, MK will close early on party nights at 7. AK usually closes by 5 or 6. DHS by 8 or 9. Of course, EMH are still in effect on occasion.

I don't think you will regret September - unless you really don't like the heat. Enjoy! :)

Still going to be hot and still going to be humid; so if you are use to the summer, September should be just fine. And as a PP wrote it should be less crowded.

I went last September 23-28th and while I love the fall decorations everywhere, it felt like July/August. It was so hot and the humidity was so high, but it only rained once during our stay. I don't know why people say it is empty in the parks.. I think this is only in the beginning of the month because it was so crowded when I went. Thankfully I know how to tour the parks so it was nothing for me. Being at the park for opening really helps.. I was able to walk on everything before it got crazy midday. I can't tell you how many times we said to ourselves "we are sticking to our usual November from now on" lol. But this is just my opinion.

We went 9/24-10/1 two years ago and enjoyed it. When we were there, crowds were higher than normal due to MK's 40th anniversary but we still found the wait times to be low and crowds very manageable. Because of this, we would go at this time again.

As PPs said, it was very hot. But if you normally go during the summer, you'll be used to this. We only experienced one night of heavy rain but a good brief downpour daily is to be expected from everything I've read.
