Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part One [Thread now FULL and closed]

Hi All - hope you don't mind that I am posting this question rather than reading through 160 pages. My 4 kids and I are returning to stay at POR in two weeks (can't wait!). We stayed at POR about three years ago and my then 7 year old boy had no trouble fitting on the trundle bed. He's now 10, but since we spend very little time in the room and POR was cheaper than the family suites elsewhere, we booked POR again. I didn't know that the trundle bed was replaced by a murphy bed. In looking at the pics, it looks nicer, but is it smaller? Getting a little nervous we are going to end up with three squished in one queen bed instead. Thanks for any info or experience you can share.

We were there in Dec & my 20 yr old son slept in the Murphy bed just fine!

Can't remember if this has been asked or not, for the air conditioner unit, is there a thermostat on the wall? On all ears they talk about the thermostat on the wall at POFQ since there refurb so I didn't know if they had done that for POR when they refurbed them.

thanks!!

Go to Portorleans.org and look at the layout there. Bldg 15 is right on the parking lots where 14, 18, and 27 are closer to the river.

The site also has tons of useful information about POR.

We also used the site to request our room and it worked great...requested a first floor in ab 16 and that is what we got. Great location if you don't want to pay extra for preferred room. We also spent the $10 for a garden view. Very nice walking out your door each morning and not looking at the parking lot...worth the $10 to me.

Thanks to all at this thread for a great 8 days at port Orleans. What a nice overall experience we had at this resort. We requested an bldg 16 garden view and really couldn't been any happier with our location. Just a short walk to everything we needed. Thanks again all!!

Yes, it is a wall control thermostat.

I use gift cards because I don't want to deal with change when I am buying food. I feel rushed at the till and don't use change, then end up with a heavy purse by the end of the trip.

And since I am from Canada, buying US cash is cheaper than using my credit card and getting a 2.5% fee charged on top of whatever the exchange rate is.

I load the gift card with $100 to start out with (it's just for me as I travel mostly solo), watch the balance (which is printed on the bottom of the reciept) and reload when necessary. You can reload at any gift shop at the parks or at the resorts. Not sure if you can reload it at Guest Services or not? Never tried.

Where do you get the gift cards in Canada? I'd never thought of doing this, but it's a great idea and would save me from having to carry around too much cash and/or my credit card.

Also, I'm sure I saw it on here somewhere, but does anyone have a link for one of the on-line fax sites? We arrive on Wednesday, so am I better to send the fax today, over the weekend or on Monday morning?

Thanks!

We will be sending our fax in
2 1/2 weeks, we already stated we would like a first floor corner room on check in online which we will state again in fax but which preferred building is also closest to a designated smoking area?

Don't get too stressed, it's not a military exercise. :) Nice and early on Saturday morning would be a great time to send it. Fax details are in the first post of this thread.

This is a great resource for anyone considering staying at POR!! I have stayed at PORFQ this will be my fist trip to POR. I was considering booking a preferred room, BUT I also like the Mansions. Any suggestions on what category I should book, or is it just a request. Thank you in advance! :)

I've never noticed this before, but after recently seeing a room tour video I saw that POR rooms have basically no drawers for clothing. I know that there are three drawers under the television/folding bed fixture, but those seem rather small.

We're arriving on the 22nd, so there's additional time for preparation. What do you guys do about storing clothing when staying at POR? Pulling from suitcases doesn't seem that great.

Bring a bunch of extra hangers.....hang your shirts on the five ft long bathroom rack and the whole top is a flat surface to toss up shorts etc.etc.

Leaving POR as I write this after our first disney trip... All I can say is wow! Such a beautiful resort, we enjoyed every single thing about It! My DD especially enjoyed all the creatures free roaming around all the beautiful scenery.. She said it was like we were in an actual disney movie where the animals are your friends, bunnies, birds, lizards, and squirrels!! She felt like a princess the entire time, even on the bus she was introduced as a princess as she came on! Everyone was so helpful and super nice! Hate to be leaving but can't wait until our next trip!
