Waiting for my packet from Disney...Question...

Hi!

So we have closed on our AKL resale, got an email April 2nd that we are now waiting to get into Disney's system and to expect a packet in the mail from them once completed. I cannot make any reservations until I receive this in the mail, correct? Does it give me instructions on how to set up my account online as well? We want to make Hilton Head reservations for November 16th and the 7 month mark is coming up quickly and I just wish this whole process started a couple weeks earlier now :)

We closed on 3/15 and are still waiting. I got an email on Monday with our activation code for the website, but I also need my member id which is supposed to be coming in the mail. I've called a few times and can't get them to give me the number over the phone. The last member services agent I talked to said that I am in the system, but that she can't "open" my file and that I have to wait for the number to come in the mail. She said sometimes they can open them and sometimes they can't - whatever that means! I can't help but think I am labeled "resale" so they want me to wait. I think there is a back log with the sudden flurry of purchases. I am anxiously checking our mailbox everyday as I am looking to make a reservation for 12/1 not to mention wanting my membership card for a cash trip next month. I'll post once I do finally get it so others have an idea of timing. If anyone has any suggestions about how to get the number, I'd appreciate hearing them. I think I read about someone talking to someone in quality control or something like that.

Sadly you are getting your first taste of how you are appreciated as a DVC owner. Yes they are making you wait because you bought resale.

Call you're broker and see if they can help or get you a different contact number.

I think they can access the account over the phone only if you put your social on the contract forms. Otherwise they have no way to prove identity. i had that problem as well. As for my timeline, I closed on 3/15, was transferred by 3/26 and got member number letter in the mail on 4/1. Got welcome packet with member cards on 4/8. Pretty fast process. Hopefully you will get yours soon, too.

I am on the same timetable as you guys. I just got my email from TTS the other night saying we just need to wait for Disney now and am also eagerly checking my mail every day! I have a feeling it'll be another few days at least, though. We have our plans and I can't wait to officially book them!

It must depend on who you talk to.

I received a letter with my member number on 4/8 and the letter said my packet and club ID would be coming in about 10 days (I don't remember exact words). The same day i received an e-mail with one time activiation code. The next morning I called member services and they were able to give me my club ID after I verified some identification information. I still haven't got my packet but I've set my account up and made a reservation for December.

Billy did you provide your SS# on your closing papers. I was able to call five days after we closed and they were able to help me. Could be the SS identification. I know most people refuse to provide, but we did as we thought it was mandatory. :confused3

That may be part of the problem.

Your SSN is required anyway when you sell a contract and the sale is reported to the IRS via 1099-S.

We are buying resale too, it seems the person we are buying from is taking all the time allotted to return the docs. Are the time frames the same or do they vary depending on which broker you go through? Trying to speed up this process......

Yes, I thought it was mandatory (just like when I bought a house).

We did provide our Socials so that can't be why they can't validate. Mail will be here soon so maybe today will be the day. It sounds like others got their member number and then their welcome package separately. I haven't gotten either, but a have my activation code for the website. I might just keep calling until I can find someone to help me. At this point I might be close to using the "I think you sent it but it got lost in the mail" excuse when I call.

Well guess what just came in the mail? I got the letter with my member number and it says the ID cards and planner are coming in 10 days to 2 weeks. Once you have the member number you can call and make reservations. You need a one time activation code which comes via email in order to get online to make a reservation. You should get the member number first and then the activation code, but mine came in reverse order which stopped me from making a reservation. Hopefully your member number will come faster than mine!

IMO this all a bunch of crap. Disney is all about the positive image and magic and then they deliberately delay resale buyers with the ROFR delays, the estoppal delays, the build your account and add points delays, and now the website activation and member number delays.

Guess we know how they really feel about us. :sad2:

Seriously...I guess all the money we spend on tickets, food and souvenirs isn't enough to warrant faster/better treatment.

Honestly, I just don't understand the inferior treatment. They sold the initial contract and got the money for it. That person sold it to someone else. I understand they would prefer that every person who wanted DVC bought direct, but I know for many people (myself included) cannot afford direct prices, and furthermore, I don't see direct prices as a deal whatsoever for our family because we are fine with staying in a moderate. Because we have DVC and are okay with staying in a value studio at AKL, our points will get us far and we are going to have many more trips than we would have prior to buying resale. Therefore, we will be spending more money there than we would have before.

Well, I take it back. We just got our letter today! So they will automatically email you then (to have access online)? I would rather just go online and book, but at least I can call now.

We just received our membership letter today, too. I called Member Services and they helped me set up the online account over the phone. It was super easy and took less than five minutes.

We closed on our resale contract last Nov and never did receive they mystical welcome packet and IDs cards. We called 3 times and finally just gave up. We got the letter with our ID number so went ahead and booked, then got our ID cards when we were down there in January. Also had to call to activate our online account. Since then everything has worked out fine, but still a little curious why we never got the welcome package in the mail. :confused3

I just called Member Services to get my member ID. They did not give it to me. I have my activation code but am still waiting on the member letter and the welcome packet.

Here is my timeline so far:
2/07/13 - Started researching and looking for a resale DVC contract
2/15/13 - Found contract
2/19/13 - Signed contracts
2/20/13 - Contract sent to ROFR
3/14/13 - Disney waived ROFR
3/20/13 - Received closing documents from title company
3/22/13 - Faxed closing documents back to title company and wired funds for the contract
4/02/13 - Disney notified of the change of ownership
4/15/13 - Received DVC one-time activation code via email
