Leaving for Aulani on Friday - Anyone have a construction update?

I know Aulani has been doing some upgrades this winter. Anyone who's been there in the last 2-4 weeks care to give an update on what the construction is like, what is open/closed, an eyesore or an earfull, etc?

Thanks!

I'm laying on the beach right now. We haven't heard any construction noise but we've only been here for two days - Easter weekend. Maybe it will start up tomorrow. Some walls are up on the right side (facing beach). I haven't noticed any 'eye sores' at all. This is a beautiful resort. You will love it!!

We just returned on Friday. We heard some serious jack hammering in our room coming from one of the ballrooms they are redoing. It was off and on from about 9-3 every weekday. We weren't in the room much during those hours so it didn't bother us too much. Other than that it wasn't a big deal. The grills were not available either.

None of the grills are available? Do you know why and will they be fixed soon? What a bummer. We'll be there this weekend, I was planning to do some serious grilling.... :(

Nope, none of the grills were available. There was a construction wall up around where they are located, so I'm not sure what was going on. You may want to call and ask if they will be available for your stay. I'm thinking not..:sad2:

Anyone know if the "quiet pool" is open again?

We are headed there in about 10 days, as well. I am thinking of putting in a request for the Ewa tower with the assumption that the construction noise would be relatively less intense there?

Plus as I recall the view of the sunset is better from that angle.

Can't hardly wait!!!

The area where the quiet pool was did not look anywhere near ready to open when we were there 3 weeks ago.

The hydro therapy water garden outside the spa is closed due to construction until may 31. I asked if the spa services were discounted since part of the experience was not available and they said no. So I cancelled my spa treatments for May 15. Disney always thinks we should pay full price no matter what-even though we are not getting the full experience. Theme parks, hotels, whatever. No consideration for how our holiday is impacted. It is disappointing.

The adult pool was taken away with the construction and they do not plan to replace it.

Hmm...Ok... Actually, the Wailana quiet pool was Not taken away with construction, it is past the construction area currently and therefore is closed until the new pool area has opened. It will reopen in September 2013.

Not according to the CM we talked to. She said they didn't plan to have an adult pool. Hope she was wrong and you are right.

They would probably have trouble trying to enforce the Adults Only aspect. It's hard to keep children out of certain areas when their parents don't teach them respect for rules, signage, or other people. :sad2:

I have small children and so we didn't go near that pool when we visited last year. But I feel like I noticed that no where in the signage did it ever say "adults only?" I thought it only said "Quiet Pool"? Now, for me and my family that certainly eliminated our 2 year old, lol!

I just thought that was interesting.

I would have cancelled too. After my issue with the hot tubs at the resort, the hydro garden of the spa would be the ONLY place I would enjoy a hot tub at Aulani.

Good to know. I was just thinking of scheduling a massage and facial for our trip in 3 weeks. I was really looking forward to the garden pools and showers. Won't bother now. We were thinking about adding points at Aulani. But this trip will have a big impact on whether I can talk DH into it. Starting to doubt that will happen. I finally had DH talked into his first massage because of the garden and eating lunch there. It was going to be our outdoor escape, since the quiet pool is out of action. Oh how I wish that I hadn't listened to the CM at MS that said the majority of work should be done by our trip in May. Oh well, I am sure we will still have a good time. Glad we rented a car. We may spend a lot more time outside the resort.

We were in the Ewa tower on the 11th floor and were able to look straight down at the grills (they look all nice and shiny). But the area is just blocked off with construction walls. There was no work being done there, couldn't tell why.
But it didn't look like they would be becoming available any time soon. We heard no construction from our room. And were able to enjoy the Starlit Hui from our room.
We can't wait to go again!

The Wailana pool was never signed as "adult" or "quiet" but simply Wailana pool. I think in the map before it was opened it called it an adult pool but when the actual resort opened it was never signed any particular way. There is a small bar next to it and a few cabanas. That area was hardly used in the many times we've been to the resort. It's under some trees, so it's colder over there in my opinion. Very pretty and peaceful.
