2013 Dis Exclusive BackstageMagic Adventure 6/9 - 6/14/13

Kevin - those are absolutely awesome additions. But you know what this means - we are going to have another discussion about what clothes to wear on chat this Thursday! :lmao:

Tuxes are now required and there will be a swimsuit competition.:thumbsup2

Actually, the breakfast at Storyteller's twice in a row seems a bit odd, but otherwise I love all those additions.

Goofy's Kitchen is in the Disneyland Hotel. Cutting out the travel time to and from the hotel and having the breakfast location at the entrance to DCA allows them to add Cars Land.

In addition, the Farewell Breakfast can be a rushed affair for some guests. In the past, some guests have had to skip it due to flight schedules.

It does probably change the plans for the group dinner we were working on for Friday Night.

For those that are interested in it, here's my two cents:

We can either just go back to just having dinner "on our own" or change to a different restaurant. As I see it, the prime restaurant choices would be Napa Rose, Steakhouse 55, or Catal. Ulana and I would probably lean towards Steakhouse 55 because we love steak. (I'm grilling steak as I type.) Napa Rose, while probably the best food, seems like not the best place for a big group like this and I admit the menu prices scare me a bit. Overall, though I think it makes sense to get everyone's opinion and see if there ends up being a "majority rule".

Kevin - would appreciate recommendations from you as well! I haven't been to any of these places, so basing it all on reputation for those picks.

I would always pick Catal. We love it.

:thumbsup2

Well that was a nice surprise already from ABD.

Does this mean we will get to see the 1901 Lounge?

Also is there a big enough area in Carthay Circle for us all? Don't they normally show a photo slideshow at the farewell dinner, just wondering if this will still be possible.

Do you know if they are still going to have an animator available to draw a character for us? I had read about this on previous trips and was looking forward to it.

Pete regarding the Friday night dinner I still like the idea of us getting together as group. I would also vote for Steakhouse 55 but I'm happy to go with the majority.

I'm fine with doing whatever most people want to do. I do think it would be fun to get together somewhere one last time.

You do realize this means that I now need to go shopping... ;)

I'm trying to use this as an opportunity to learn people's names - cause I have no idea how to pronounce ymxbfalcon or chropistopy.

I'm honestly not sure of how to pronounce the ymxb part of it myself. In my mind I just say those four letters individually. At the risk of sounding like the math teacher that I am, :teacher: it's from the slope-intercept form of a linear equation - y=mx + b. (Short, non-boring version - I really enjoy teaching Algebra.) The "falcon" part is just because in addition to being a Disney geek and a Muppets geek, I am also a Star Wars geek, and Han Solo is cool. :)

1901 Lounge is not part of the Adventure, but you never know. You can always ask.

I have never been inside Carthay Circle Restaurant. I'm assuming it's big enough as it was ABD's idea.

I hope Stacia Martin is part of your Adventure, but there is no guarantee. She's absolutely lovely and HUGE source of Disney info.

I got the Star Wars part, though I was more partial to Star Trek growing up, I am also a bit of a Star Wars geek. Our daughter is turning into one as well. I missed the slope/intercept reference though - quite clever!

I think I'll use Angie instead.

I was assuming that Big Thunder Ranch meant I had to replace my lederhosen with cowboy boots and chaps.

I have never been inside Carthay Circle Restaurant. I'm assuming it's big enough as it was ABD's idea.

When we ate there we entered and sat in the main central room, the one with all the wine bottles.

There were several rooms off the main room, but we didn't go into them. I would assume one would be big enough to hold a large party.

I am thrilled we get to go there for our farewell dinner. The food was wonderful when we were there.

That sounds great Kevin. :thumbsup2. Pete, I think I'm leaning towards Steak House 55 For dinner Friday night since I was excited about going there, but like Rory, I'll go with the majority.party:

Chris and i would like Steakhouse 55 instead as well but will fit in with whatever the decision is.

My vote would be Steakhouse 55. I recently restarted listening to all the podcasts and back in 2007 Pete made a statement to expect over $100 per plate at Napa Rose. I really want to get back together for dinner but there is no way we could do that.

I was also thinking that maybe we should oh so nicely ask Kevin to send out emails to everyone on the adventure about dinner... Just in case there are any of us that aren't on the boards. It just doesn't seem like all 37 of us come in here.

Sounds like some interesting changes! Excited for a vip experience in Cars Land!
I vote for Steakhouse 55 too. That is one place we meant to go last time & didn't make it there.

I'm excited about the changes! Thanks for updating us, Kevin! The Carsland part is especially exciting.

As far as dinner that Friday, I'm fine with whatever everyone else wants to do. Seems like we have quite a few votes for Steakhouse 55. I'm good with that. I'm supposed to see Cheryl tonight so I'll ask her but I'm sure she'll be fine with anything...

Even though I know its closer to two months, it really tickles me to see that 1 month starting off the countdown in my ticker. :goodvibes

This is good I count that 11 people are represented (either themselves or their co-traveler) as saying Steakhouse 55, 3 people saying "whatever", and the other 3 not yet responding. That's a solid majority right now for Steakhouse 55. There's no hurry to decide anyways, but based on what I'm seeing, it seems that is what we'll go with.

Kim - Looking at the menu for Napa Rose - I agree that you probably aren't going to get out of there with less than $75-100 per person, with most entrees running in the $40-$50 range, the lowest cost item is $39 with most sides an additional $10 or more.

Steakhouse 55 isn't much cheaper, but you certainly have more options for less expensive fare. Entrees seem to run $27-$40, but in the normal steakhouse tradition, any sides are extra. There are 4 options I see (chicken, salmon, pork and prime rib) that are $30 or less. I think here your talking $50-$75.

Gosh - as I look at the Steakhouse 55 menu, it is making my mouth water. Maybe it is just the diet I am on (goal to lose 12 lbs before this trip - already down 6!), but I'm thinking "I want that, and that, and that!" However, based on the menu, I hope we don't have any vegetarians in the group! (Not that Napa Rose looks any better on that front.)

As I think about it, another reason I lean towards Steakhouse 55 is now we don't have any meals scheduled at the Disneyland Hotel, and I really am almost more excited to see the Disneyland Hotel than the Grand Californian.

I know Kevin recommended Catal, and that looks great too. My head is at whichever one we do Friday night, Ulana and I will eat at the other one for breakfast on Saturday before we leave, as both came highly recommended for breakfast from the Disneyland side of the DIS.

I was also thinking that maybe we should oh so nicely ask Kevin to send out emails to everyone on the adventure about dinner... Just in case there are any of us that aren't on the boards. It just doesn't seem like all 37 of us come in here.

Agree there are some people that don't seem to frequent the boards as often, which is another reason I thought I would wait a few weeks before making any reservation to give those folks a chance to pass through. However, you have a good suggestion - if Kevin would be willing to mention it to everyone in an e-mail, that would be great. Though I wonder how big a party they would actually be willing to accommodate.

Hi Folks,

As this is not part of the actual Adventure, I dont feel that the information / invitation should come from me.

Everyone was told that this thread is here and invited to participate.

Also, not everyone is staying an extra night. Some folks are leaving some time Friday during the day.

The good news is that even if you don't hear from everyone, you will be able to ask them in person at the start of the Adventure. Should you need to increase the number on your ADR, I'm sure your guides will assist.

Thanks,
Kevin

Fair enough, Kevin! I wasn't much concerned myself since I figured that most people will come through here at some point in the next few weeks.

Very true, I'm sure if we book a group of 20, and we need to bump it to 24, it wouldn't be much of an issue at all.

Hey Pete! As Christy has stated, I'm absolutely fine with Steakhouse 55 or anywhere else everybody wants to have dinner on Friday.

Less than 2 months now...YIPPEE!!!

Even though I know its closer to two months, it really tickles me to see that 1 month starting off the countdown in my ticker. :goodvibes

I agree Christy, I'm loving the 1 month on the ticker also. The time is going fast, before we know it, we'll all be sitting down to the welcome dinner.,:banana:

I had a quick trip to WDW this past week, and I was able to meet Lisa in person for the first time. Jeff and Val made the arrangements. They are good that way. :lmao:

The trip is getting closer, and I can finally start getting excited about it now that my latest WDW trip is done.
