CONCIERGE SUNDECK!

before i begin my post, i forgot to post this image with my pirate night update. after we returned from your excursion in st. john, we found this awaiting our bed, in preparation for pirate night. ARGH!

IMG_7113-2_zps003b0acc.jpg

back to the sundeck...

another perk to cruising concierge is access to the private sundeck. the entrance to the sundeck is found through the lounge. the sundeck was absolutely amazing! it was hardly ever crowded and so very relaxing!

there's also a basket of goodies to protect you from the sun:

and more pictures of this fabulous area:

i loved the canopy "egg" emme called it. i took a few naps here for some quiet time. it was great!

and these were the stairs which lead you back into the lounge:

IMG_7112-2_zpsb046d0a2.jpg

concierge had many soirees in the lounge which served as a mixer for everyone to meet and hang out. there were light snacks and drinks served. there was also an exclusive character meet & greet as well!

the round metal thing is a cold water mister. it was very cool!

afterwards, emme said she needed to feed baby simba.

and then she...

passed out!

there was a soiree on the sundeck this day with a special guest!

exclusive pin for concierge guests.

NAMCHAN! the best bartender EVER!

and the special guest:

DONALD #1!

there were lovely sweets & snacks & i of course took full advantage of the bar.

Grey goose vodka + soda water + lime + splash of cranberry

the sundeck was a really nice relaxing retreat compared to the hustle & bustle of the ship. i loved it up there!! :3dglasses

Thank you for sharing all your amazing pics! I would live to do a trip like this with my mom & DD!

Just catching up~

I love your photos of St. Thomas/St. John, they are so beautiful!

Pirate Night looks like a lot of fun! We did a 4 night Wonder cruise 8 years ago and Pirate Night was on our CC night. Our kids were a lot younger then, and sooo tired by then. My DS was 10 at the time and missed the party and fireworks. I give Emme a lot of credit, even with a nap to hang in there for dinner!
The pirate characters look so fun!pirate:

I love the concierge sun deck! So classy and comfy! If they only had a little water feature on there, I think I'd be convinced to save and splurge. Your report makes it tempting! :cloud9:

Love your updates! Thank you!
:)

HELLO SAN JUAN!

after a veeeery long day the night before, once again emme decided to wake up super early. we both made our way to the balcony to check out where we were. it was always so exciting to see. i felt like a kid at christmas.

IMG_7302-2_zps3f5800fb.jpg

we were greeted by double rainbows. so beautiful.

there were some grey clouds in the sky but i wasn't going to let that diminish my day. i did not plan any excursions for my family at puerto rico. my mom was pretty exhausted & emme loved the kids club. i read that there was also a fort in walking distance so i thought i would do that....solo.

the weather was noticeably hot. emme & i got breakfast from the concierge lounge & had breakfast on our balcony. it was going to be a scorcher of a day...so this just reaffirmed that i'm glad i didn't plan any excursions for this day.

after our light breakfast, we went to take a quick walk around our deck, deck 12. i wanted some shots with no people in the background.

IMG_7307-2_zpsa871c8bd.jpg

poor donald gets no respect.

speaking of donald...

IMG_7312-2_zps4e840dcf.jpg

the aquaduck!

IMG_7317-2_zpse9f56e2f.jpg

and this is the view i would never grow tired of:

IMG_7311-2_zpsb4bf3c5b.jpg

the ship was so pretty. there was just so much to look at and do. even though we were on it 7 days, i feel like i didn't even see half the ship.

IMG_7315-2_zps6300f57a.jpg

we made our way back to our room after some more exploration. i got my mom some breakfast from the lounge & cabanans, got emme ready for the kids club & then prepared for my own self guided tour of the fort in puerto rico.

i slathered on sunscreen & off i went. let me tell you, it was HOT. it wasn't humid but it was very very hot. it was a different heat intensity than i've felt in florida. the sun was relentless and beating down on my skin. i could just feel myself burning. i was repeatedly slathering on my sunscreen. don't forget the tops of your feet everyone! my word, it was hot.

after getting off the ship in port, i noticed there were a ton of other ships at port. but the fantasy towered over all of them. the ship is massive. beware of all the locals trying to sell their goods to you. there's also panhandlers (a really sad sight) everywhere along this strip. it might make some people uncomfortable.

as i crossed the street, i noticed a cvs! i wanted to stop by there and take advantage of the one hour photo kiosk as i made thank you cards for our conicerge team with some photos i took while on board.

but i digress...

i am really bad with directions so i just started to walk straight. i was pretty excited to see a sign and knew i was going the right direction.

IMG_7329-2_zpsf7bb151f.jpg

a really cool statue.

i was getting closer to the fort but the heat was really getting to me. did i mention it was super hot??

IMG_7337-2_zps78405aaa.jpg

i knew i didn't want to walk in the fort. i really wanted to walk around the fort. sounds crazy but the water was so calming & picturesque. i've seen my fair share of forts in florida but i've never walked around one.

IMG_7339-2_zps4a405ca9.jpg

hot.mess.

IMG_7361-2_zps087e7a78.jpg

i saw people with tour guides and people making their way inside the fort but i kept trekking along, drinking my water & applying my sunscreen. the views that i got were absolutely spectacular. the fort was amazing.

IMG_7341-2_zps3a9a3c5e.jpg

IMG_7342-2_zps0d152f6f.jpg

i loved this bridge.

IMG_7355-2_zpsb41408f9.jpg

being on this road really made me miss my brother who is deployed in afghanistan. this is his second deployment. he was in iraq before this. he's 24 years old, a sargeant & the head combat medic in his unit, the 320th MP. he visited puerto rico with his friends before he deployed & he really wanted to visit puerto rico together.

after feeling sentimental, i continued my walk forgetting for a moment at the intensity of the heat.

IMG_7357-2_zps34d9d0db.jpg

IMG_7359-2_zps9af94c02.jpg

quite picturesque.

there were a few other people who took this off beaten tour like myself. i offered my sunscreen to a man who was really struggling with the sun. his forehead was super red.

i continued my walk...i wanted to go as far as i could but i had to make sure that i made time for cvs & get back on the boat by 4:30.

IMG_7374-2_zps8b6a3c55.jpg

after seeing this, i was curious as to what the view would have been like up there.

IMG_7375-2_zps56bb0679.jpg

IMG_7384-2_zps16f8429a.jpg

i finally got to the end & could go no further. i turned around & began to walk back. there were some guys working on top of the fort. they were saying things to me....i wonder if they thought i was an idiot for walking around the fort instead of going inside. HA HA!

there was a little enclave towards the front of the fort. i was curious so i walked inside.

IMG_7390-2_zpsd7ce7936.jpg

this reminded me of the cars parked on the hilly streets in san fransisco. there were vendors on the street selling snacks and water. the water was only $1.00! such a sweet deal compared to the prices on the ship. given, i didn't have to buy any water but i did see the prices for the evian. yikes.

IMG_7391-2_zps95f371c5.jpg

the doorway took me back to the path of the fort.

i noticed some graffiti on the side of the fort. this was a picture i took and instagrammed. btw, sprint is my carrier & i had great service while in san juan & the islands. the 3G reception was better while on vacation than in my own city back home. TRUE STORY!

734666_10151262076539702_1487194134_n_zpse9da6c71.jpg

i guess nothing says rebel like a ghost on a fort.

IMG_7397-2_zps38d6ac58.jpg

i finally made it to cvs by 330. my self guided tour was for almost 2 hours. it was a leisurely stroll & i really enjoyed the solitude of just being by myself.

cvs was a madhouse. everyone and their mama was there. i found the photo kiosk and began to go through the hundreds of pictures i had taken. i found some that were usable and created thank you cards for the concierge team. i also found some mickey mouse cards as well.

after checking out, i headed back towards the ship. i stopped at the local table stands and saw some turtle figures. turtles are good luck in my culture & i've worn the same turtle pendant on my necklace since i was 15 years old. i found 3 cute turtles for alice, kemisha & julie. i also found one for me.

image_zps29615844.jpg

i was able to knock a few dollars off the price. feeling victorious from wheeling & dealing i made my way home.

i also bought some cold waters to give to the people who were panhandling. i figured they were just as hot as me by this point.

423111_10151262138774702_1253949736_n_zps765cc73c.jpg

the glorious fantasy!

i had my drivers license and room key handy & made it on board at 4:25. right on time!

i was a hot sweaty mess & made my way to the concierge lounge. i really wanted an ice cold water & an alcoholic beverage. happy hour wasn't for another hour but i was hoping namchan would be set up by now.

and much to my delight, namchan was setting up. he already knew what i wanted & prepared my drink. he's a total star.

grey goose vodka + soda + lime + splash of cranberry

i asked for two to take one back to my room. i sat on my shady balcony & enjoyed my 2 drinks while staring out at the ocean.

there was still no phone call to pick up emme from the kids club so i savored the silence & took a cool shower & got ready at a leisurely place for the "prince & princess dinner" @ enchanted garden.

overall, i really enjoyed what i saw of san juan. it was just so nice to spend some time to myself. just me & my camera. i don't get moments like this very often. it was wonderful.

up next, PRINCE & PRINCESS DINNER @ ENCHANTED GARDEN!!

Love your updates! Thank you!
:)

thanks for reading along! emme's a total night owl (like me). i thought that first seating would be too rushed for us. there were times that dinner dragged out because we were all tired but i still think second seating worked better for us.

concierge is definitely worth the splurge! there's satellite falls on the deck below & it's only for adults. :) plus, the 1 bedrooms has a huge jacuzzi tub. that thing was amazing!

great photos throughout your report, looking forward to reading more

thank you for the kind comments and for reading along! :beach:

Fantastic report and wonderful pictures! Enjoying reading along!

many thanks for taking the time & reading my report. i started a trip report for my trips to disney & i don't think they are going over very well. :crazy2: so it's nice to know that there are people who read my reviews. :thumbsup2

:love:I loved your report!
You pictures were great.
Thanks

thank YOU for reading along!! :wave2:

thank you for reading along.

the mommy time alone was amazing. i had forgotten how much i love silence. :rotfl:

:cool1::cool1::cool1: For the update.:cool1::cool1::cool1:
I can so relate to your TR on so many levels. My hubby is in the Military and it stinks when he is away so I feel for you and your family that he is not there with you.
As for Sprint, My husband calls me from Guam when he is there and the reception is crystal clear and yet we some times get awful reception when he is 10 minutes from home. :confused3
We are staying in a 1 bedroom suite in February on the Dream and I loved all the pictures. They made me more excited than I already was. Thank You. Can't wait for CC and the Cabanas. How was the water in January? We are going Presidents week and I am hoping that the water will not be too cold..Thank You.

What a wonderful way to spend a day

Sorry for repeating myself but yet again your photos are beautiful

I'm sure that you and your brother will be taking a walk around San Juan together one day

By the way, that's a fine sounding drink! - must try this combo some time :)

many thanks linda!! it was so nice to be by myself with my camera. the weather was just so dang hot that after awhile, i kind of just gave up shooting & enjoyed the walk. it was heavenly.

my brother should be coming home in september. he's currently living in a tent with a family of rats as it's freezing over there. i can't wait for him to come home. he will probably be with me in disney in december. :cloud9:

i normally don't put in cranberry but his drinks were pretty strong & the cranberry was a much needed addition. :rotfl:

What kind of cameras do you use?

hello. :wave2:

i shoot with a canon 60D & my iphone 4S which i also have a detachable lens for. for castaway cay i purchased a weatherproof sony camera as my canon point & shoot was not waterproof.

if anyone is interested in a "land" adventure, i have started a trip report HERE of my last few trips to disney world. ::yes::

What a nice solo day is Puerto Rico! It looks peaceful even if it was hot. I love that private balcony/sundeck. They had some nice features. I love how Donald was out!
