Southwest is giving 50,000 points again

I called Rapid Rewards to ask if my 50K points would expire at some point. I was told they'd never expire as long as I had some SW activity every 2 years. It could be the use of my SW credit card or a SW flight. Good info to learn as I was thinking of canceling my SW credit card before my next annual fee kicks in.

Why wouldnt you use the points before the year is up??... If you keep paying that annual fee and not use the points, your not saving any money! Especially when the annual fee is $99!

Any use of your CC? Their wording about needing to have "Partner Activity" confuses me. I can't tell if using my cc to buy gas is sufficient, or if I have to go through the rewards website and have a transaction with one of their rewards "partners".

I had the card with the $69 annual fee over a year ago. I got the rapid rewards points and closed the card. Just recently, I applied and was approved for the card with the $99 annual fee (different level of card than before). My card and paperwork arrived from Chase today but there is no mention of the 50000 bonus points or how to get them AT ALL. Will the info on the 50000 points come from Southwest, or did I not get the bonus? I won't activate the card if there are no bonus points available!

Call the number on the card and ask. "IF" it wasn't set up that way (for the 50,000 pts), you should be able to get it changed -- my daughter did without any issues. :thumbsup2

Just called VISA and the points are there! YAY!! Now I have to go spend some money. I wonder if I can run up the balance buying gift cards to the grocery store and Walmart. My Sam's Club doesn't take VISA, so it'd be really nice if I could charge Walmart cards on my VIsa and then redeem them at Sam's!

I bought Disney gift cards with my AMEX to reach my spending limit.

How many flights is 50,000 points good for?

My dd and sil are on a tight budget and trying to figure out how to make it more affordable to attend a family wedding next summer.

You can make a mock reservation by shopping for flights. Once it displays the flights for your dates, change the display from $ to points. It will add up how many points you need for your travel party long before any cc info is requested. :goodvibes

Thanks. We will check this out!

Make sure you can find an offer giving 50,000- I've heard there are only 25,000 pt offers at the moment.

Well it depends.

I got 2 round trips to Orlando and a round trip to Seattle with a few left over.

I live in OK. No direct flights to either city so 4 sections on each RT, but they were on sale.

We just booked 4 RT tickets for less then 50k pts. They are $226 RT flights!:cool1:

So, I just got the SW card. The offer I signed up under said I would get 2 round trips, so I am assuming 25,000 points. When will I see the points?

Our offer said two RT fights as well.... So maybe you have 50k? You will get your points after you spend $2000.

Does it matter how long it takes? If I spend that in a month, will I see it then, o do I have to wait a certain amount of time? We are going to Orlando in July and I'd like to book it by mid-May. I figure I can put all my bills on there to get to $2000 and then pay it off.

I think our offer said we had 3 months to spend 2k. We had no problem with that:rolleyes:

Yeah, me neither unfortunately. Car payment, student loan, electric, water, cable, cell phones, not to mention gas and groceries.

It's 60 pts = $1 so it depends how much the flight costs. We fly a route that is about $160-200 RT so we can get 4-5 flights out of that from 50,000 pts! If the cost of the flight goes down after you book, they will refund the points to your account if you request it.
