Marriage License?

I was looking at the Brevard county website and it looks like you can fill in all of your info online. Has anyone used this? I understand that you fill in your info and they send you your licence, which you then have notarized. Do you both have to be together when it is notarized? DF lives in Germany , but it coming to the states at the end of the month, we are getting married on May 5. What should we do?

They don't send the license, they send the paperwork needed to *get* your license. The license is the last thing they send, which you give to the officiant on the wedding day. After you sign it in front of him/her, the officiant mails it back and Brevard County sends you your marriage certificate. :thumbsup2

The point of the notarization is that you sign the form in the presence of the notary, so your DH would either have to find a notary equivalent in Germany to sign the form in front of (and then mail it to you to do the same in the US) or go with you to see a notary in the US when he gets home. The latter sounds way easier to me. :goodvibes

We are also using Brevard County Mail-away program! I think it is best seen as a 3, easy-step process:

1) Fill out the form titled "Marriage License Information by Mail" and send to them via e-mail, mail or fax.
2) They will then send you an Application to Marry and Affidavit. Fill out (this is where you get your notary completed) and submit to them, along w/payment.
3) Less than 60 prior to wedding day, they will send you the "License to Marry" which is your wedding license. This is what you give to the officiant and have he/she send in.

You get a copy of your marriage license back via mail a few weeks after the wedding!

Hope this helps!:groom:

Yes. You can either do the online form (at the website you provided) or do the printable form you can mail in.

I would get the ball rolling about 3 months out. If you send in your paperwork before 60 days out, they will sit on it until the 60-day window opens and then send you the license.

Thanks. I was worried if I sent it too early it would expire before we got there. Glad to hear that's not the case

I just wanted to update. DF couldn't get the link to work, he kept getting a runtime error. He ended up emailing the help desk multiple times and ended up emailing the forms as a PDF file. We are just waiting for the email back and should be able to have it notarized while he is here in the States next week.

I am really worried we won't get ours in time. We put it off because we didn't want to do it too earlier and then things got so busy with other preparations, that it got to 5 weeks out and we thought "yikes, we still have to do that!".

I really hope we can still get it in time. We've not received the application yet, I don't know how long it takes to get to us.

I am kinda in the same situation. Our wedding is May 23, 2013 and I am planning on mailing off our info this Monday. Does anyone have any idea how long it usually takes for the mail away process to take? And if you think there is not enough time, what other options are there?

It only took 5 days to get the email back, we had it notarized on Monday, mailed it on Tuesday. We are just waiting for the license to come in the mail.

I wanted to update you that we requested the info by email.

It took a week and a half to get the email back with the paperwork we need to fill out. We then printed it out, had it notarized the same day and overnighted it back to them the same day. That was on a Wednesday. By the following Monday we had our paperwork back all ready to go for the ceremony.

It cost $30+ to overnight it via UPS but it was totally worth it for our peace of mind.

I just wanted to let everyone know it took 9 days from the time I mailed it until the time we received it in the mail.
