Off the Fantasy on Saturday - Miscellaneous Tips to Share

Thanks for all the tips, we sail in a few months. I'm curious about getting items signed by CMs, I've cruised before but didn't know you could do this. Can you drop an item at a service desk and it will be autographed ? Thanks again !

On the first night take whatever items you want signed to Guest Services in a ziplock type bag with the appropriate makers/pens and leave it with them. It will be delivered to your room on the last night covered in character signatures. I got two three inch vinylmations signed one with Mickey and Friends and one by the princesses. They will ask if you want one or both of those or you can tell them 'all available' and hope for some more. A token of appreciation such as candy or gum is nice but not a requirement. I included a huge number of suckers and gum in my bag with the vinyls and the markers.

I actually bring 2 carry on bags when we board. One with swimsuits and sunscreen and toiletries and the other with our clothes for dinner. This way no matter when our luggage is delivered we are able to get ready for dinner. In reality ,because it is a busy day, my husband and I will change and the kids wear what they wore in the morning.

Sorry, but that makes me smile. Our cruise was VERY calm the first couple nights compared to other cruises where we have experienced 20+ foot swells, once with 50 knot headwinds and the pools closed all day. I was asked by someone if the ship always rocked so much on day 2. I hadn't felt much movement at all by that point. We did feel the movement a bit more on Thursday because we had to increase speed to get from San Juan to CC, but it wasn't as bad as we have felt in the past. So as a person who was on their 10th DCL cruise last week [1 3-night, 4 westerns, 3 easterns, Alaska, PC repo] I thought that the Fantasy's stabilizers were working great. It was actually one of our calmest cruises in the Carribean.

I agree with you Lisa. Our cruise was pretty calm. We too felt the movement a bit more on Thursday but it wasn't anything bad. Actually, we joked about it with our server in Palo at brunch. Our worst cruise ever was an Eastern Caribbean on NCL - from Miami until we reach San Juan almost 2 days later, it was constant 25-30ft seas. There were lots of sick passengers on that one but we were okay. I still laugh when thinking back about how it felt like I was in a human pinball machine while trying to walk in the hallway heading to the stateroom.

If I may share a tip I first noticed on the Hawaii cruise in May last year. If you have a iPad, laptop, or other Internet enabled device, you can access the DCL site for free. It knows you are on the ship and will let you book with all of the booking onboard benefits. So I just used my iPad to make my cruise reservation this coming Oct. Thought I'd share.

Thanks for the great info. We will be on the Fantasy in less than 3 weeks! I have a question about more movement/rocking of the ship. I was reading about folks on a recent Fantasy cruise who were complaining about the stabilizers not working properly due to increased rocking even when the seas were not rough. This is my first cruise and I am very concerned about seasickness. Some folks did think it may have been due to heavy winds. I was wondering if you found it rougher than usual and if anyone mentioned issues with the ships stabilizers. Thanks.

I was also on the most recent eastern and thought it was great. Yes, you feel some slight movement throughout. We personally noticed it most the first evening. But agree with the others, we thought it was a very calm cruise!!

Lisa, this makes me smile, because I am sure that "someone" was ME! ROTFL!!!! This newbie discovered that an aft room is not for me ' cause if I am rocking in my room, I carry the feeling with me wherever I go onboard. Did not spoil the cruise for me though...I rebooked while onboard for a midship verandah stateroom the next cruise! :)

YES!!! That is what it feels like! LOL! I was amazed at the chef custom making the asian lomein one afternooon in PC. I was having a difficult time standing in place in line watching him and he was managing four skillets. :)

Katie, I do believe you were the person who said this on the stateroom tour. :thumbsup2 You weren't the only one who asked me that question though. I would probably feel it more if it wasn't for the bonine. Always order gingerale in the aft MDRs, especially when we are leaving a port that night. We mentioned to our servers Thursday night that it finally felt like we were on a ship. I do hope that you were able to keep the seasickness under control and enjoy the rest of the cruise. :)

Thanks so much for the information, my son will love having a pillow case !

Nice tips -- especially about sunscreen.

If I wanted to swim before having access to my room, I think I would come wearing my swimsuit rather than planning to change into it. My DD needed to use the restroom and couldn't because there was a line coming out of the bathroom with people waiting to change into their suits. Not sure if that is the norm or not.

That would be ideal, but I think it depends on one's travel plans. For many who travel for several hours to the port, doing so might be uncomfortable or inconvenient.

Yes -- I would not want to fly from DC in with a swimsuit under my clothes. There are many restrooms that can be used for changing, so I don't see that being a big problem.
