Kids board games??

What do you do with your old board games? Should I sell them on ebay? Can I still sell them if they have a missing piece or two?

There are a lot of fun crafts you can make with them, if you're into that. I've never sold on ebay, but I suppose they may sell. Scrabble and Monopoly would sell good if all the pieces are there, because they're two popular ones people make crafts from.

This is what I have.....

Nickelodeon DVD Bingo (Dora, Backyardigans, etc), Cranium (Sponge Bob), Pictureka, Guess Who, Disney Pictionary DVD game, , Balloon Lagoon.

We typically donate them to the school's afterschool program.

If all the pieces are there, I donate them to the Goodwill or a teacher at school. If it's missing pieces, I put it in recycling. I can't tell you how many times my kids have gotten excited abut a game at goodwill only to find it's missing pieces... So I'd rather recycle it.

You could always donate to your local Boys and Girls Club or other afterschool/mentoring programs if they're in good condition and the pieces are all there. If the pieces are missing, I'd say recycle or use for crafts.

I saved some of my kids' games, and now my grandchildren play them.

My mom saved all my sister and I's board games. Now the grandsons play with them.

Just wanted to mention OP that many companies will send you missing pieces free of charge. I have done this many times when I have either wanted to sell a game at a kids consignment sale or bought one and found that not all the pieces were there. The only time I have run into problems is when the game is no longer being sold (even then they often have back stock on pieces for a while). I just recently got more leaves for the Honey Bee Tree game and more cherries for Hi Ho Cherrio. The companies that I know I have done this with are Briarpatch and Hasbro. I bet Cranium does it too. Not sure about the others, but worth a phone call or checking the website.

I would not sell or donate games with missing pieces--too frustrating for the person who ends up with it.

The only used games that I have personally seen go for much of anything on ebay are either very expensive and nice special editions, or else games that are in near perfect shape (with all pieces) and no longer available new.

I think your best bet would be to donate ones that have all the pieces. You could also, perhaps, donate the others but please clearly label that pieces are missing on each box, so anyone purchasing them knows they are getting something they can use for crafts or to create their own game, but not getting a game they can play out of the box.

Honestly, I do not see anything there likely to sell, or that is particularly good for crafting or using the pieces to come up with a new game, etc.

Thank you all for the great advice. My hubby told me to save them so our grandkids can play someday. I love that the company will replenish missing pieces.

This surprises me. I called as recently as late February/early March and asked for additional cherries for hi ho cherrio. I offered to pay and they declined and did not even ask me to pay for shipping. They also sent me an entire bag of cherries and I was only missing a few.

I had a yard sale a couple weeks ago and wanted to see how much DS's old board games were going for on ebay. I was shocked to see people selling individual Monopoly houses/hotels and Operation pieces.

Kid's consignment shops take board games around here.

I spoke with a representative and she told me they had replacement pieces for purchase.

Balloon Lagoon will replace all pieces for free. At least they did about 4 years ago. I only needed one and I got a whole set in the mail!! Great customer service!

It's a good thing my daughter can't get to your games. That's one of the things she collects. We have so many but it's ok. We like having them.

I've kept our favorite "outgrown" board games for future grand children. The "why'd we buy this?" games went to Goodwill.

Buying replacement parts IS possible -- for example, we currently LOVE Citadels, which just came to our house at Christmas . . . but we decided it'd be nice to have an extra pack of "gold pieces". I realized in retrospect, after paying the shipping, that it might've been cheaper to buy a used game from ebay.

I would absolutely put a used-game on ebay . . . BUT I'd be 100% clear if was missing pieces. Someone might buy it -- like I just said above -- to get more "gold pieces" or to have plenty of Monopoly money. But don't let them think they're getting a whole game, if what you have is missing anything whatsoever.

I used to sell the ones that were complete at kids consignment sales.

Now I ask the local daycare if they want them if they are complete or I just toss them.

This reminds me that I need to do another board game clean out this summer.
