Renting DVC points..Is it this easy?

We rented points from a DVC member through a company. My DH was always very skeptical using them but I have a few friends that have gone through this company with no problems I even looked them up on BBB and there wasn't a single negative comment. We had our agreement emailed to us and we paid for the resort. Is that it really is simple of a process? I have to print out the email and bring it with us at check in...it just seems so simple, I thought there would be to it?!? In the back of my head I have that fear of showing up and them saying ''no such reservation'' Can I call the resort when our trip gets a little closer and check that way? I'm sure everything will be fine but DH has got me a little nervous. If you have rented points before is it this easy? I don't know if I'm allowed to post the name of the place I used to rent points from? It's not the one advertised on these boards.

I'm so excited to stay at AKV!! We've stayed at Old Key West a few years ago but other than we've stayed off property..I don't know who's more excited the kids or me

I have rented points out to a company....David's DVC. I told them how many points I had available to rent out, he found someone that wanted a reservation for that many points, and then told me. He gave me all the information needed, and I went online and made the reservation for the folks renting the points. I then gave David's the conf number. I got half my money when I made the reservation and half when the renters arrived at the resort.
It was very easy from my end...so it's not hard to understand that it would be easy from the guests end either.

Now, I'm not so sure I would rent my points out to someone I didn't know..or that was taking complete responsibility for anything that happens. I also wouldn't rent points from someone I didn't know or that at least was known by those I know. If you have used a company that specializes in points rentals, you should be fine.

There are some banned companies, that we can't discuss here, on the DISboards. If you put in a name, and it comes out like this...******..you will realize that it is a company that can not be discussed. There are guidelines that will also tell us that there is to be no circumventing the filters either. If a company comes out as ****, then don't try to 'get around it'. There are good reasons various companies may be banned from discussion here.

Yes, its that easy! You can use the reservation number they gave you to view it online at www.disneyworld.com....so you can keep an eye on it!

We just rented points for the 1st time this year & everything was smooth sailing. We returned on Tuesday & had no issues. We rented from the same person for next month too! I was able to plug the DVC ressie # she gave me into My Disney Experience & it came right up.

to the OP - I am a DVC owner haver never rented my points but have rented points from other owners - it is truly that simple.

Be careful though AKV is my favorite especially with kids - you may never be happy anywhere else again.

I own at VWL and try to get AKV at the 7 month window whenever possible.

I feel better after hearing all your responses And even more excited to stay at AKV, I hear more and more how beautiful and fun it is there We used the DVC Rental Store, I spoke on the phone with the travel agent helping us and even saw her on LinkedIn.

was going to rent a studio for 7. none exist. just
saying if caught over the limit ,& being a renter -
i would expect you to lose the room..esp. if
we're next door.

We used the DVC rental store this past December and had no problems at all. As another poster said, you are able to view your reservation on the Disney website at any time. I'll also add that my cousin just used them for the 1st time for a trip a few weeks ago and also had no problems. Have a great trip!

Tracey, you can use the points calculator on their website to see exactly what it would cost. And yes, they can easily have the member add the dining plan for you. (We did that too)

because this is the type of luck we have had, .

this sorta reminded me back when we had to get 2 rooms
@ the wildness lodge. (2002). we had a rainy day @ the
parks, so we came back early, to find a towel gator.
( our rooms had a shared door). our kids put on a 'croc~
hunter skit...using the towel gator. it was pretty darn
cute..& funny -so i got the video camera out. but they
left the in-teen door open & my wife crashed the scene
...coming out of the shower..in towels. the wild beast
went a lil' ape......so we had to shut down the production,

AKV is amazing. We stayed at Kidani, loved it. Very long walk to the lobby from our room though!

One person under the age of three doesn't count towards room occupancy. There is a pack and play in the villa for that child.

BLT studios are the smallest of all the DVC villas (in case you were thinking about that one). DVC members usually book 11 months in advance at their home resort and seven months out at a non-home resort. December is an extremely busy time for DVC.

From my reading/understanding, under 3 does not Count towards room occupancy. But with that said, you may just want to spend a bit more and get the one bedroom....

We rented points from a DVC owner once. Turned out to be okay, but I was on pins and needles the entire time before our trip thinking he could possibly cancel the trip without our knowledge.

For that reason, I would always advise to rent from a reputable place or someone you know. It makes for a better overall experience.

The cost from moving up to a 1 bedroom from a studio is $double$. You do get more room but still will only have 1 real bed(not counting OKW).

We just booked with David's website and got what we wanted within a day! We are just amazed at how much we saved from the rack rate! I know this will probably be the way we go to the world from now on. I kind of think of this as our "little secret" about getting more for our resort, but paying less.
