I know you can bring alcohol onto the ship in your carry on and can consume it in your stateroom but has anyone tried to sneak a drink to take to sit by the adult pool?

Yes , if its in a concealed cup no one says anything ! My friend bought a DCL travel mug & used that for his drinks ...

People do it all the time. And you've use the correct terminology "sneak". As in you know you're doing something against what DCL asks.

Question
What is the policy regarding bringing alcoholic beverages on board?
Answer
Alcohol is permitted on board. However, any fragile items (including alcoholic beverages) must be hand-carried on board in the carry-on of an adult Guest – age 21 or older (dimensions can't exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep).

Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

Guests who arrive in the dining room, including Palo and Remy, with a bottle of champagne or wine will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

I think it's against DISboard rulebook to ask questions about circumventing something that is against Disney policy. :confused3

How can I delete the thread I don't want to get in trouble

You can't delete it. You can ask the moderators to close or remove it, I think.

Don't worry about the thread, there are lots of people who ask questions pertaining to "how can I ..." arrive earlier than my PAT; let my 10 year old in Edge, or my 18 year in Vibe; get my 17 year old into Palo; let my non-concierge travel companions use the concierge lounge.etc.

I've had non-DCL alcoholic drinks in public without sneaking them. No problem.
Bunch of us Disers had a great time:thumbsup2

I got the impression the OP was referring to whether there was a DCL policy and was it enforced...so no rule broken there.
Kind of like asking if you could wear shorts to dinner...
I think you can still ask that, right:confused3;)

I'm always surprised at how blatant people are in flaunting their disregard for this policy, especially considering the consensus that DCL pays attention to what is posted here. I know they backpedaled on changing their alcohol policy once before, but I wonder who among us will howl the loudest when they change it for good.

If you add some rum or whatever to a glass of soda/juice, who is going to know. I have never seen DCL send CM's around to sniff/taste cruisers cups to see if they're "sneaking" alcohol into their drinks. There is no way for anyone to know what is in your cup. I'm sure if DCL allows you to bring on alcohol, they know you are going to drink it. Now if you walk around with a fifth taking slugs right from the bottle, they would probably say something. ;)
As previous poster stated, DCL asks for no shorts in dining rooms - they are regularly worn. Formal night is a complete joke to some people who show up in clothes I wouldn't wear to dinner at hometown restaurants. People arrive long before their PAT hoping to get on the ship earlier. So having a bit of alcohol in a glass of soda is no different.

Out of all of those annoyances mentioned above, only the alcohol issue dips into DCL's bottom line. So yes. They certainly might care quite a bit about enforcing that rule.

Thanks for asking! Disney's policy is, as usual, crystal clear, reasonable, and subject to some who disregard it with the excuse that its not enforced. DCL is the only line I know that allows us to bring alcohol on board, a wonderful courtesy for which I thank them. I hope the minority who abuse this courtesy don't eventually lose it for us all.

Have a drink in your stateroom, relish Disney allowing this, teach your children how to make right decisions, and enjoy your cruise!

Since the subject was "Sneaking" drinks, not, "Am I allowed to bring my own alcohol into public areas" I figured there was subterfuge involved. Why would you "sneak", unless you knew it wasn't allowed?

OP, don't worry about it...the first offense is usually just a warning...unless it's blatantly disrespectful, and I've seen a LOT worse without any repercussions. Just a public service reminder that we're not suppose to encourage breaking Disney Rules.

we were on the magic in February and we thought we were not allowed to drink around the boat. We even had beers in a bucket covered up with a towel in the bar until a CM told us we were allowed to drink anywhere including bars. We never bought beer on the boat the whole time. We drank our own beer and alcohol at all the bars, everywhere!! So yes drink anywhere you want!!

everywhere except the MDRs, I think. We didn't try it there, i had heard something about a corking fee

No, I got the impression she was asking if the rule was enforced, which it isn't. And since she wasn't asking for advice on how to get away with something illegal I don't see how the OP asking her question with regard to what happens if you bring a drink with your own alcohol to the pool breaks the rules of the Dis boards as was implied above:confused3
Like I said before It's like asking what happens if you wear shorts to the dining room. A legitimate question.

I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble for bringing a drink to public areas and I am not going to tell people that is going to happen just because I don't want them breaking a DCL rule. It is not my job to enforce DCL rules.

But I do recall a Dis board rule about being rude and bullying other people and I try to make sure my posts are respectful and as diplomatic as possible. That's the rule I'm more concerned about....

I think it depends on the CM with regard to how they handle things like this. Another CM might not be so encouraging with regard to a bucket of beers in a public area. But a single drink won't cause a problem:thumbsup2

I had read a trip report that the server encouraged this one group to buy their own wine in the ports and that it was fine to bring a glass to the table, but if they brought the bottle he had to charge the corking fee. But I am guessing it depends on the server you get. Can't hurt to ask them though.

Having personal alcohol onboard is already cutting into DCL bottom line. If a person has alcohol in their room, they are more likely to drink that first and maybe add only one or two drinks at the bars.

"and subject to some who disregard it with the excuse that its not enforced.......... I hope the minority who abuse this courtesy don't eventually lose it for us all.{QUOTE]

If this was directed at me, you should know that I seldom if ever drink alcohol, therefore I do not bring on alcohol, and I seldom purchase alcohol on the ships, so I am not disregarding any rules and DCL makes no money from me with regard to alcohol purchases.

I was just posting about what I have observed. In 6 cruises on DCL, I have never observed anyone being asked to remove their personal beverage from public areas. One time I did see someone being given a plastic cup for their beer that was in a glass bottle, since glass is frowned upon in the pool area. But they were not asked to remove it totally from the area. That act in itself tells me that DCL does not actively enforce the policy they have in effect.

When I read about people 'following the rules to the letter' I wonder how many of them routinely drive 5 or 10 miles over the speed limit becuase "cops usually won't stop you unless you exceed by 10+ mph"?

When at CC I will bring a water bottle with some rum to top off the drinks I buy on the beach. I like my coctails a bit stronger than what you get from the bar. I do this discreetly (some might call that sneaking).

I think this actually boosts DCL's bottom line becuase I wouldn't waste my $7 on a frozen pina colada on the beach that has very little alcohol if I could not 'adjust to my liking'.

Funny... I never knew that you weren't allowed to consume the alcohol you bring onboard outside of your room. :confused3 I'm always walking around with my own cans of beer or mixed drinks. I've gone to the shows with them. I've brought them into the lounges. I'll bring 2 to dinner. When at the pool decks I'll bring my soft-sided DCL cooler with my own cans of beer to the bars to have them fill it with ice for me. 5 DCL cruises and no one has ever said a word to me.:goodvibes

On my last cruise the bartender noticed one group had some interesting beers. He spent quite a while discussing the pros and cons etc....he seemed not to care at all that it was personal. Of course as the group finished their stash they opened a tab.

I think DCL knows that.., let us get started with our stash and we are more likely to keep drinking LOL. My bar tab on a 4 day Dream where I brought on supplies was more then the 5 day RCCl
