Anyone have an idea as to what time we need to leave the ship on the 8th? Our hotel is not granting us check-in before 2pm so we were hoping to stay on board till around 12. Any clue whether that's possible?:

Just two little tidbits! First of all I've been reading Med trip reports like crazy and I'm getting a little nervous about how much pickpocketing I've seen! Is there anything that you do to make sure that you don't get pickpocketed or any precautions you take?

And second, I just bought Rick Steves' Mediterranean Cruise Ports book and it is fabulous! I'm not extremely far into it yet but he's got some great tips and information. I highly recommend it! He is all for doing ports on your own but he's also realistic and lets you know when you really SHOULD do an excursion or tour. Can't wait to read more!

Hey. I've travelled extensively all over the countries where pickpocketing is common with no problems whatsoever. The basic precautions I always take:
Make sure your purse/travel pouch is a zipped one, and not an open tote.
2. Don't carry a wallet in your back pocket, and keep only a minimal amount of cash in your wallet, keep the rest in a zip pouch attached to your waist. Don't keep your credit cards in your wallet either.
3. Don't leave your things unattended in crowded places.
4. Pickpockets in Spain normally work in groups, where 1 distracts you'll and the other makes away with your stuff while you're distracted, so make sure you stay alert at all times.

Unfortunately you will be off the ship way befor 12pm. Disembarkation usually begins just after 7am as the ship has to be prepared for the next cruise and the new passengers board from around 12-12:30pm.

I think they make everyone get off by 9:30 or 10am as they need to get the ship ready for the next group that starts boarding around noon.

Thanks for the info. Someone suggested that we can book a day tour of barcelona so that will give us something to do and someplace to store our luggage, so we're gonna do that. Appreciate the help

I was just curious about that. It would be nice to just leave it on the ship and have one less thing to worry about when it comes to pickpockets.

I may be over thinking this pickpocket thing but I'm just so damn worried about it. I like to carry around my dslr with me and now I'm thinking about just leaving my camera at home....

I normally carry around a photocopy of my passport first and last page, as well as my visa, and I leave the originals safely in my locker. Alternatively, I have a scanned copy of it on my phone. That's normally enough. Once while I was driving along some mountains in Switzerland I accidentally crossed over into Italy without realizing it. This was before Switzerland was a schengen country, but when I turned around to get back into Switzerland, I showed them my passport photocopy and explained the circumstances, they let me through. Its really safer not to carry your passport around unless you're planning on doing some high value shopping and want to clain a tax rebate. Hope that helps!

Hey everyone, just a quick question. Does anyone know if the Stateroom with verandahs will have a hot water kettle provided in the room? I'm a complete caffine addict and need my coffee as soon as I open my eyes in the morning, so if there's no kettle in the room I normally carry my own. Any idea?
