Rides to avoid if you are claustrophobic

What rides should I avoid in the MK if I am claustrophobic? I don't want to get squished into a ride and have a panic attack with my kids there LOL...might ruin the Disney Magic if they see me like this :faint: I haven't been to Disney since this has gotten bad for me. TIA :)

The only one that comes to my mind in MK is Space Mtn due to the feeling of being closed in by the track in the dark. In EPCOT, you'll certainly want to avoid Mission Space.

The only ride I had a panic attack on was Mission:Space. Or as I call it: Sideways Sardine Can. Don't do that one!

One trick I learned was to bring some extra-menthol-ey cough drops to WDW. The kind that clear out your sinuses and make it seem your brain has evaporated. For me, the early stages of an attack make me feel like I can't breathe, and the cough drops open up my airways and distract me from going into a full-blown attack.

At the Haunted Mansion you go into an "elevator room" but that is only for a few minutes. Plus, the room actually gets taller so you have more room to breathe. ;)

Don't do Stitch's Great Escape. I mean it, for anyone, not just phobics.

I do fine on Star Tours but others might get a little claustrophobic. I think that's one where you are crammed into a room then released into a bigger room, where you get strapped into your seat.

Stitches Great Escape in MK. Not only because it just isn't fun but the restraints are tight and I really felt trapped if that makes sense.

But after the stretching room, I always feel claustrophobic moving from there to the doom buggies. That area where a large mass has to bottleneck to a single file line stresses me out.

Yes the HM is one I knew for sure. I can do elevators if only a couple of people are on it, but will not go on one if there is any crowding. My little guys won't want to go on that anyway, so I figured my dd and dh could do that one by themselves...though I always loved that ride so will be sad to miss it.

Thanks for the tips....the cough drop one is a good one. There is no worse feeling than that were you feel as though you cannot breathe :( I've never tried that!!

Not sure if you really mean MK or WDW, but at Epcot in additio to Mission Space avoid the "build your own rollercoaster" attraction/ride. Thinks it's called Sum of All Thrills. Although it's pretty cool.

Stitch and the HM are the ones that get to me. The HM elevetor part is a large room, but when the cast members urge people to move to the "dead center", I get a bit icky when the crowd of strangers gets closer to me. But it's short and I am fairly certain you can avoid the stretching/elevator room if you speak to a cast member. Stitch, just don't waste your time.

MK: Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain come to mind. Although on Space Mountain it's dark and you are moving awfully fast so it may not be an issue. I personally don't have a problem with HM either, but I could see how if would be an issue.

Epcot: Mission Space. Both sides. Just say no. Sum of All Thrills at Innoventions.

HS: Might want to avoid ToT. The new Jack Sparrow walk through can get pretty crammed too.

AK: Nothing springs to mind.

we are doing 2 possibly 3 days(depending on crowd level) in MK and then hitting IOA since my son is a superhero fanatic. The rest of the week we are going to Clearwater and other low key things so skipping the other parks this trip. Though who knows if we will add a day somewhere once down there so it is still good to know.

I think I will be okay with space mountain. I am okay as long as there is open air around me...I can't handle be inside a small space that is enclosed, but if my middle guy doesn't want to go I may just skip it and let dd and dh do it.

DH is very, very claustrophobic and I am claustrophobic but not quite as bad.

MK:
1-Haunted Mansion stretching room, if it's really super crowded it will bother us. We asked to skip the stretching room and were taken to the doom buggy area
2-Space Mountain restraint bars are really tight. DH had an issue when we were stopped to let a handicapped girl off of the ride. DH just asked the CM if he would release the bars until we debarked. That worked well.
3-Stitch. DH kind of puffs up when the overhead bars are lowered. This gives him a little space

EPCOT:
1-Mission Space. The most claustrophobic space, I have seen on a ride. This is a no go for us.
2-Sum of All thrills. Super tight capsule to get into.

HS:
1-RnRC. Overhead restraints are tight. This is a no-go for DH. I can handle it, as you are released quickly when it's your time to debark

AK:
nothing bothers us at AK

I have mild claustrophobia. It mainly hits if I'm in large crowds with no space in front of me. I won't go on Mission Space because of this and have to skip Its Tough to be a Bug because the queue area is VERY claustrophobia inducing. It has very low ceilings and protruding walls. When people are in there it's even worse. Stay away from that or ask for assistance.

Here's another +1 on Mission: Space claustrophobia. I have only really experienced claustrophobia once in my lifetime (in an MRI machine), but probably the 2nd closest time was with Mission: Space.

You're guided into a "command module" that consists of a somewhat inclined chair/couch in a vertical clamshell orientation, and as you look across from you, you see a colorful control panel. Just before the ride starts, the module clamshell closes and the control panel is now literally inches from your face. You have enough room to maneuver your arms and press buttons and you can see other "crew members," but the sight of that control panel coming so close was very unsettling.

It was offset by the video of the "mission" starting fairly quickly after the module closed, which allowed you to listen for things to do that fairly readily distracted you from the very tight surroundings. On balance, it was a fun ride (I opted for the milder version), and I'll probably do it again this summer, but for someone with more substantive claustrophobia, I can't imagine it being something I'd recommend.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned SE at Epcot; there are a few times where you can tell how closed in you are, not to mention you're trapped in a big ball. lol! Plus, at the end when you're backwards it can be a bit uncomfortable if you stop because you can't see and there are just a line of blue cars in front of you.

Also, I would stay away from ToT at HS because of the queue line and the tight quarters while on the ride.

DO NOT GO INTO MISSION SPACE. I am claustrophobic and didn't know how they close you into it. I thought I would have a full blown panic attack. I ended up just closing my eyes and telling myself over and over that it will be over soon. It was the most terrible thing I have ever encountered.

Yes OP you have to narrow down your claustrophobia.

I got schooled, rightly so, when I questioned someone not going on Ellen's Universe of Energy because they were claustrophobic. I was like what do mean its huge and you are not strapped down, not thinking about the "trapped" and can't leave aspect.

If this is the case CoP would also apply.

But under "traditional" claustrophobia or what most people think is claustrophobia, Mission Space is the Gold Standard of rides to avoid. :thumbsup2

Mission Space, definitely. The only time I ever went on it, there was only one version --what is now called "Orange". Between my worries about motion sickness and my extreme feeling of claustrophobia, I was a mess! Even on the milder "Green" version they have now, I would still avoid due to claustrophobia issues.

And I agree that Stitch might be a problem, too. HM doesn't bother me at all, but seems like it might affect others with claustrophobia.

Different kind of claustrophobia but thought I would suggest caution at Fanstamic... Yes, there is plenty of fresh air but the shoulder to shoulder shuffle in the dark that lasts awhile makes me anxious. Love the show but what a process to get to it!

one that got me a little bit was the Little Mermaid ride.. only because I let the lap-bar down too tight and the ride broke down while we were on it (3 of us in one shell with me in middle). Keeping my knees up so lap-bar doesn't get tight would have fixed for me.

In Epcot, the Sum of all Thrills. I am not claustrophobic but that certainly made me panic a little.
