I think it's sad....

I think it's sad that Walt Disney's original idea for Disney World is being changed just for more income.

He never wanted carnival games in his parks... But they put them in anyway in Animal Kingdom.

His first major oopsy was that he didn't control the area around the perimeter of DisneyLand, so other corporates could build so he bought more land for Disney World so that wouldn't happen. So what do Disney World owner or whoever makes the decisions do? They put other corps right into the parks. I know they have McDonald's in Magic kingdom and Epcot, in their own little stands but to change "Main Street" by putting in a Starbucks? The horror. Sure when I visit I will NOT step foot in or around Starbucks. That's my decision. Not that I drink coffee any way, but if i need a refreshment I will walk 10-20 feet away to somewhere else. Starbucks will NOT get my $$ or snack credits.

I think it is sad that the current President (or whoever makes these decisions) is losing the sight of what Walt Disney wanted for his parks. Yes I know he's not around any more but it seems like whoever makes the decisions is losing site of the magic and the meaning of what walking up Main Street means to people. I know when I'm in Magic Kingdom walking up Main Street I just feel the magic.

I just don't know any more. My site of the magic is getting dimmer and dimmer because of these changes that Disney never wanted in the first place.

Don't even get me going about Avatarland. I mean that's not Even Disney. Soon Disney World will be like Universal Studios... Not that i'm saying Universal Studios is a bad place but when you think of Disney World you think of all the magic and the good memories...not Starbucks..

You do know that Disney has never created its own coffee don't you? They've always had corporate sponsors and that includes the place that existed before the Starbucks. If you look at old pictures of Disneyland, you will see endless corporations on all of the buildings.

But go ahead and avoid Starbucks. We'll more than make up for that.

McDonald's is not in any of the parks. They haven't been for years. Walt was a business man. There is no way to know if he would have made the same changes or not. The man has been dead for decades. Times have changed, and businesses have to make adjustments based on the needs and wants of their customers.

Totally with you on the Avatar thing. Dumbest idea ever.:thumbsup2

I get what you're saying. I'm not gonna lie though. I'm not sad there will be a Starbucks. When I hit a wall I am so glad I can run over and get my soy mocha for a pick me up.

I don't care one way or another if Starbucks is in the Magic Kingdom or not. It always amuses me when someone says it's not what Walt wanted. Where is the quote of him saying please, let's never put Starbucks in the park? :rolleyes1

I missed the Avatar bit. Of course that is a matter of individual taste since apparently Indiana Jones and the like are fine.

I thought Avatarland was squashed?

Anyway, don't be fooled. Disney wanted to make money, he wasn't doing it just for the magic.

Like another person said, Disney doesn't make it's own coffee and when you're drinking a soda, it's not Disney's personal brand.

There is a mcdonald like kiosk in adventure land.
and they sell mcflurry's in epcot when you go to the right there's a kiosk by bathrooms near the lake...

Notice anything interesting about that sign?

The actual McDonald's products are gone.

There has been corporate sponsorship at Disney for decades. I wish I had saved the post someone had filled with pictures of all the corporate signs in the park.

And we don't have a way to know what changes Walt Disney wanted or didn't want. He never lived in this era.

Based on everything that I have ever read about Walt all he wanted was basically a place where someone of any age could go and be a kid and to get caught up in a world of imagination. The Walt Disney Company has succeed with that in what they have done with WDW and Disneyland. Walt Disney also wanted to build a successful company and that has been accomplished as well. People seem to forget that Walt was also a businessman that wanted to make money.

I would assume that since you won't be giving Starbucks your money, you also won't be getting ice cream at any of the ice cream places that say they feature Edy's Ice Cream or you won't be riding Test Track M car since Test Track has GM shown all over the place or getting your picture taken near any of the signs that say "Kodak Picture Spot"

Butoni sponsors Tony's in MK and Red Rocket Pizza Port in DL. Carnation sponsors a restaurant in DL. Dole sponsors Aloha Isle. Oh.. and Coca Cola has it's own spot in Epcot.. McDonald's used to be in DL, but they're gone now. Corporate sponsorship comes and goes all the time. And thankfully they do sponsor places on Disney Property.. prices for things could be even higher without Corporations subsidizing.

To the OP, just because you don't care for Starbuck's doesn't mean they don't belong on Disney Property.

There has been lots of info out there that says that it will not be an actual "Starbucks" on Main Street, but that it will still be "The Main Street Bakery" and will be "Featuring Starbucks products"

Liberty Tree Tavern features Stouffers products. How is that any different than Main Street Bakery featuring Starbucks products?

That gets asked every time someone starts a thread like this - and it never gets answered.

Woo-hoo Starbucks! That is reason enough to plan another trip!

I admit I know nothing about what Walt wanted, but I don't care what he wanted. I love WDW for MY reasons, and I don't see anything making me not want to go back. So, OP, if it bothers you, are you planning on not vsiting again? The pp's have pointed out, WDW is full of sponsored products and if it never seemed to bother you before, why all of a sudden does Starbucks dim your magical outlook.

And yes Walt was a business man, and even though I didn't know him, I'm pretty sure he wanted to make money :)
