My family is planning our first trip to Disney World in November. I am going to try to get reservations at Be Our Guest for dinner. I read that in order to get the "Grey Stuff" it has to be a special occasion. Is a first time trip special enough?

You can ask for it and they will bring you 1 plate of it so that everybody at the table can have a taste. ;)

I've heard that you just need to ask for it. They offer it for special occasions, but if you ask for it they will give it to you.

What is the 'Grey stuff'?

If you'd like to just ask for it, it depends on your server and how generous he/she is feeling. A surefire way to get some is to add a celebration to your ADR, such as a birthday or anniversary. You can also get a free button from City Hall to wear.

The Grey Stuff is a sweet mousse of some sort. Different people have reported tasting different flavors. I had been told it was an Oreo mousse and that's what it tasted like to me. There's a link in my signature to a thread called "Everything you ever wanted to know about Be Our Guest." The post that covers dinner has a photo of The Grey Stuff and includes more info about it :thumbsup2

Is there a rose in it now? All the pictures I have seen have not had a rose and when I tried it back when the restaurant opened, there wasn't a rose.

We were there on Mar. 19. There wasn't a rose on it.

But...the napkins at BOG are folded like roses. Nice touch.

We ate there about a week ago and we were given the grey stuff. My DD ate it, she said it tasted like chocolate. We didn't ask for it, nor did we have a celebration. There was no rose.

I believe the photos that show a rose are promotional photos from before the restaurant opened. I haven't heard any reports of anyone receiving it with a rose.

Is that only offered at dinner or has anyone got it at lunch too??

Only at dinner, sorry.

It's funny to me that the 'grey stuff' is desserty. When I watch B&B I always assumed the grey stuff was fois grois. :). I like mousse better.

We just asked to "try the Grey Stuff" and our server brought it ---

(No rose) --- we tasted a hint of almond---

Our server brought out several plates for everyone to try, first week of March. My nieces 3rd birthday and we were a group of 16, probably why we had more than one! But, I did have to ask and told him it was her birthday. They put a candle in it for her and we all sang, it was really fun!

There have been reports of guests asking their servers for it and being told they need to have a celebration. So just asking may work, or it may not.

Do not count on getting the Gray Stuff just by asking, even if you are celebrating. Not saying it doesn't happen, but we've been there 3 times and only got the Gray Stuff once...and that was unexpected.

Make sure you get the celebration listed on the reservation. We forgot to put our son in law's birthday on the actual reservation...told the waiter we were celebrating his birthday...it really was his birthday! No gray stuff. I even asked again, specifically, at the end of the meal, and the waiter said "Sorry, that is only for special celebrations like birthdays or anniversaries." When I pointed out we were in fact celebrating his birthday, the waiter just shrugged his shoulders and disappeared. They were not busy that night, we were eating around 7:00 PM, and at least 1/2 the tables in the main ballroom were empty, so it wasn't that he forgot or was too busy. In fact, the servers were standing around chatting with each other much of the time we were there...yet out at the check-in desk, they were turning hordes of people away, claiming "totally booked" They were not even busy. When we ate there in January, the table next to us had 3 little girls who had been to BBB...very obviously dressed for the occasion. One of the moms at the table leaned sideways to talk to their server and ask for the Gray Stuff for the little girls...the waiter explained to her it was for special occasions only. 3 dressed up little girls were not "special" enough that time either.

Now in February, we had a late dinner there...we were seated about 20 minutes before park closed. At the end of the meal, the servers came out with large trays of The Gray Stuff and delivered a plate to every table. We assumed it was because they had made too many (don't think the stuff would keep well...it's an oreo-mousse.)

We were there the last week of November celebrating my daughter's 4th birthday. I had her bd on the reservation, she was wearing her button and we talked to our server about it. We had to ask for grey stuff 3 times before she actually brought it. I don't know if she forgot or just didn't want to bring it out.

DH and I celebrated our anniversary there in December and didn't get any - I suppose I should have asked but since the anniversary was on our ADR I kept assuming it would be forthcoming.
